They're probably heading lower.”Lower real yields and a weaker U.S. dollar reduces the opportunity cost of holding non-yielding gold, potentially allowing the precious metal to regain its lost momentum.Although Vecchio acknowledged that gold has struggled to attract safe-haven demand during the recent equity market selloff, he expects the precious metal to become more resilient and potentially benefit from the election results through the first quarter of 2027.However, he cautioned that Democratic control of Congress would not immediately reduce geopolitical uncertainty, particularly surrounding the ongoing conflict with Iran. But the longer concern is whether either party can restore confidence in America's finances. Gold's appeal rests on that uncertainty, whichever party wins control of Congress,\" she said.Chris Weston, Head of Research at Pepperstone, also sees the potential for a Democratic sweep to create a supportive environment for gold, but said the size of the party's congressional majority could prove more important than the election victory itself.Weston noted that gold has already attracted renewed buying interest as the U.S. dollar weakens and both nominal and real Treasury yields decline.He explained that a commanding Democratic majority could constrain Trump's domestic legislative agenda, potentially prompting the administration to pursue a more aggressive international policy.“The combination of a weaker USD, falling real yields and demand for protection against a potentially more unpredictable and confrontational Trump administration looks to be providing a compelling backdrop for gold buyers,\" he said.However, despite the potential for a more favorable political and monetary environment, one veteran market strategist warns that gold's recent price action suggests its long-term bullish trend may already be broken.In an interview with Kitco News, Michele Schneider, Chief Market Strategist at MarketGauge, said that although a Democratic sweep could eventually support gold prices, investors should not assume the precious metal will automatically benefit from political uncertainty or falling interest rates.\"The flight to safety in gold has been broken,\" she said.Schneider noted that the fundamental arguments supporting gold's historic rally have not disappeared. Government debt continues to rise, inflation remains elevated and geopolitical uncertainty persists. However, these factors have failed to generate renewed investment demand.Instead, she sees growing evidence that investors are turning to U.S. Treasury bonds for protection as yields decline.\"Gold doesn't seem to be the big flight to safety,\" she said. \"And now, all of a sudden, bonds are.\"Schneider acknowledged that continued central bank purchases could help restore investor confidence, particularly if foreign governments remain concerned about U.S. debt and the long-term purchasing power of fiat currencies.Under that scenario, gold would need to reclaim $4,000 an ounce to generate renewed bullish momentum.However, she warned that the downside risks remain significant.
