On Election Day, voters will grapple with their state identities in Alabama, Colorado and Idaho.
Idaho's ballot includes a measure for voters to choose a state gun, with six options that include two Winchester models, an M1 Garand rifle and a Remington Model 700 rifle. The vote is advisory, and the state's legislature has the final say. Ten U.S. states, including Texas, Alaska and Arizona, already have a state firearm.
In Alabama, a ballot measure would require public schools to hold the pledge of allegiance daily and to permit student-led prayer. A second ballot measure would require public schools to broadcast the national anthem's first stanza every week, or more often.
In Colorado, the state's Amendment 83 seeks to create a right to hunt and fish in the state's constitution. Advocates of the bill say that hunting is a part of Colorado's heritage, and that a state constitutional amendment would prevent the state legislature from weakening hunting rights in the future.
