Hong Kong stocks opened muted on Monday as investors remained on the sidelines following Friday's Wall Street tech selloff, fueled by renewed fears of excessive AI spending.
The Hang Seng Index was marginally up at 23,301.74. The Hang Seng China Enterprises Index edged up 0.2% to 7,876.57.
On Friday, US markets ended lower, weighed down by the tech-heavy Nasdaq after weak results from Intel and Amazon stoked concerns that companies are overspending on computing infrastructure to keep AI online, with uncertainty lingering over whether the hefty investments will yield adequate returns.
