TotalEnergies (TTE) has expanded its cooperation with oil companies to improve methane detection and reduce emissions, the company said Monday.

In Malaysia, TotalEnergies signed an agreement with PETRONAS, the Japan Organization for Metals and Energy Security, and JGC to support the development of a regional center for evaluating methane measurement and monitoring technologies, the company said.

PETRONAS will evaluate methane measurement and monitoring technologies, while TotalEnergies will contribute expertise from its methane technology evaluation center in Europe, the company said.

In Angola, TotalEnergies signed a memorandum of understanding with Sonangol to share technical expertise on methane detection and reduction, flaring, energy efficiency and other decarbonization measures, it said.

In India, TotalEnergies and Oil India will conduct a second field campaign to detect and measure methane emissions at additional Oil India-operated sites, the company said.

TotalEnergies said the partnerships support the Oil and Gas Decarbonization Charter's goal to achieve near-zero upstream methane emissions by 2030.
