President Trump suggested in an interview that he would consider pardons for allies, including Elon Musk.
"We'll just have to protect those people," the president said in an interview with Pod Force One. "I would do if I needed to, sure. I would not even think about it. I'd do it, I did it for J6."
The president pardoned nearly all of the 1,500 people charged in connection with the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol at the start of his second term. In the interview released Monday, Trump noted that President Joe Biden pardoned members of the House committee that investigated the Capitol attack.
Democrats have vowed to investigate the Trump administration if they win back one or both chambers of Congress, including allegations of pay-to-play pardons, the Kennedy Center renovation and Donald Trump Jr.'s wedding. Some Trump administration officials are already calling law firms in search of legal advice.
