Cathay Pacific Says 53,000 Bookings Affected by Amadeus Data Breach

MT Newswires Live09:09

Cathay Pacific Airways (HKG:0293) said around 53,000 bookings were affected by unauthorized access to travel reservation data held by third-party service provider Amadeus IT Group between August 2023 and September, according to a Friday filing to the Hong Kong bourse.

The airline said it was notified by Amadeus on Oct. 28, and received further details the following day about unauthorized access using login credentials assigned to an Amadeus system account.

The accessed data included booking references, passenger names, and flight details, with a smaller subset potentially exposing contact and travel document information. The airline said there is no evidence that financial data was compromised or that any information was misused.

Amadeus has contained the incident by issuing password resets and enhancing system monitoring. Cathay Pacific said its own systems and operations were unaffected and that it would notify affected customers individually.
