SALINA, Kan.- President Trump came to deep-red Kansas to give a final boost to incumbent Sen. Roger Marshall and encourage Republicans here to get to the polls on Tuesday, or else hand over the country to Democratic control he claims will destroy the country.
"This is my 30th rally, and I'm closing it down tonight. This is it. I had to come here to make sure that Roger got elected," Trump said. "I didn't want to take a chance. I could have been home watching television or some crappy thing. I'd rather be with you."
Trump won Kansas by 16 points in 2024, but the state's marquee Senate race is considered a toss-up between Marshall and Democrat, and Methodist pastor Adam Hamilton. Farmers in the state have been hit hard by the rise in fuel and fertilizer prices, and have been frustrated by Trump's plan to bring foreign beef into the U.S. Trump tried to sell the crowd here on policies to boost the agricultural industry but also called for more beef. "We could use a little more beef if you don't mind. Could you speed it up a bit?" Trump joked.
The president criticized Hamilton in his stump speech but stuck to familiar refrains from the midterms: he again called for the removal of Rep. Ilhan Omar (D., Minn.) from Congress, joked about wanting to name another body of water for America, and said electing Democrats would lead to higher taxes and open borders.
The rally was interrupted several times by protesters who were promptly removed, and people started filtering out halfway through the over 80-minute speech. The president at times seemed nostalgic that the rallies were coming to an end. "I don't think this will ever happen again, this is a unique thing," Trump said of the rallies. "So let's go out and do what we do best, which is win, win, win."
