US Equity Futures Mixed Pre-Bell as AI Stocks Dip Following Democrats' Midterm Win

US equity futures were mixed pre-bell Thursday as traders observed artificial intelligence and data center-related stocks slipping after the Democrats' victory in the US midterm elections.

Dow Jones Industrial Average futures were 0.5% higher, S&P 500 futures were flat, and Nasdaq futures were 0.8% lower.

Investors are concerned that the Democratic control of Congress could bring heightened scrutiny of the data-center industry and potentially slow down its development. Banks are also preparing for more oversight, with lawmakers seen probing consumer finance practices that can potentially increase customer costs, according to Reuters.

Traders also digested the latest round of earnings, with ConocoPhillips (COP) posting higher Q3 adjusted earnings and revenue, and Sony Group (SONY) reporting higher fiscal Q2 earnings and sales.

Monster Beverage (MNST) and Airbnb (ABNB) are expected to report their Q3 earnings after the market closes.

Oil prices were higher, with front-month global benchmark North Sea Brent crude up 2.6% at $97.04 per barrel and US West Texas Intermediate crude 1.7% higher at $89.60 per barrel.

Initial jobless claims, scheduled for release at 8:30 am ET, are projected to have increased to 196,000 in the week ended Oct. 31 from 194,000 in the previous week, according to estimates compiled by Bloomberg.

The Q3 nonfarm productivity report is expected to show an annual gain of 2.7%, up from the prior value of 1.4%. Unit labor costs are projected to rise 0.4%, compared with the previous value of 1.2%.

Federal Reserve Cleveland President Beth Hammack, Richmond President Thomas Barkin and Dallas President Lorie Logan are slated to speak on Thursday.
