Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway made significant investments in five major Japanese companies in August 2020. The companies in which Berkshire Hathaway invested are:

1. Itochu Corporation: Itochu is a diversified conglomerate engaged in various businesses such as trading, textiles, machinery, energy, and more. Berkshire Hathaway acquired a stake in the company.

2. Marubeni Corporation: Marubeni is another prominent Japanese trading company involved in various sectors like energy, metals, chemicals, machinery, and more. Berkshire Hathaway also invested in Marubeni.

3. Mitsubishi Corp: Mitsubishi Corp, a part of the Mitsubishi Group, is one of Japan’s largest trading and investment companies. Berkshire Hathaway purchased shares in Mitsubishi Corp.

4. Mitsui & Co.: Mitsui & Co. is another diversified trading and investment company with a global presence. Berkshire Hathaway added shares of Mitsui & Co. to its portfolio.

5. Sumitomo Corporation: Sumitomo Corporation is a major Japanese conglomerate engaged in a wide range of businesses, including metal products, transportation, infrastructure, and more. Berkshire Hathaway also invested in Sumitomo Corporation.

Warren Buffett’s company Berkshire Hathaway has also increased its stake in these five Japanese trading firms to 8.5% (up from 7.4%), with more increases possible with a view to holding the shares for the long term.
