One can find photos of pitiful Tesla $Tesla Motors(TSLA)$ owners attempting to string extension cords from second story motel room windows. I agree that the necessity of being tethered on long trips is not a plus for EV's. One has only to stage and observe side by side experiences of a gas car and EV traveling long distance, especially for a Colorado ski trip in winter. Overnight the ICE driver has only to shut the car off, register and sleep. The next morning the cars fuel will be exactly the same as when shutdown. That will never be the case with an unplugged EV especially in winter.

More and more studies are showing how EV range is drastically over reported. A current lawsuit against Tesla showed computer algorithims greatly over stated actual range until the battery reached the 50% mark. At that point the computer shifted to greater accuracy to avoid stranding owners. Batteries ... what a mess. Don't charge to 100%, Don't go below 20%, watch out for cold weather, don't run the heater on long trips and much more. Wonder if one can still find pictures of Tesla drivers motoring along with winter coats, hats and gloves. Cannot understand why there is such a push electric vehicles that are not yet mainstream cars or ready for primetime.
