$Walt Disney(DIS)$ Disney's problem isn't financial, that is the symptom. The problem is that they are in no-man's-land with respect to their customers. I would love to hear someone at Disney tell me what their brand means. 10 seconds, 30 seconds, a few words -- what is the Disney connection to the customer?
I think they've fallen into the trap of trying to be all things to all people, and the result is that they are nothing. Boomer customers see them getting away from "family friendly" and "traditional", and have no interest in following Disney to a new place. Young people have no connection to Disney; it's just another stream of entertainment like social media or YouTube... except Disney still operates in the 3 to 5 years to make a sequel mode when young people today want instant gratification and have an attention span measured in hours or days.
Yes, they needed to do the financial stuff like cost-cutting, but the real turn-around happens when they find their "north star" that is aligned with what their customers want, and they begin to re-build the value of the Disney "brand"; and then the business economics will follow.
I'm long out of the stock because I think Iger isn't seeing the forest through the trees, so he is missing the root cause.
