THE FORMULA 1 LAS VEGAS GP APPEARS TO BE CLOSER TO FAILURE THAN SUCCESS FOR THE ORGANIZERS

Since Liberty Media acquired the exploitation rights of Formula 1, and insisted on organizing a Formula 1 Grand Prix in the middle of the city of Las Vegas, everything related to this Grand Prix went from bad to worse. The worst of all, at least for the Europeans, was the mistake in the scheduling of the event, which went to the point that the race took place at night in Las Vegas. It starts at 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, and therefore it is early morning time in Europe, on the day when you don’t have to get up early to go to work. In other words, it has a terrible schedule both for the local fan and for those who want to follow it on television, and the audiences are likely to suffer, and with this the income from advertising on television will suffer, and those of the ingenious witty person responsible. of this strange idea.

Furthermore, with just one week to go before the event, ticket prices continue to drop. From the 1,600 dollars that the most expensive ticket cost has dropped to 1,000, and the cheapest ones have gone from almost 400 dollars to 150. It seems that the exorbitant prices for the Las Vegas race have not been very successful and have affected the demand for tickets.

On the other hand, Liberty Media, the organizer of the event, even asked all the restaurants in the area for $1,500 per table just to put a race in front of their business. Who knows what prices you would pay for a hamburger. He priced newsletters at $1,000, which are usually free, and even offered VIP packages for five million dollars with accommodation, a restaurant, and a balcony overlooking the circuit. As if there were thousands of Arab sheikhs willing to pay that amount to see it from the front row.

Now they are reducing tickets by almost 50%, and although it is foreseeable that Liberty’s television production will try to hide it, the Las Vegas Grand Prix points to complete failure. Let us remember that 240 million dollars were spent just on buying the land for the pits in the heart of the city, and God knows how much more on other concepts concerning the sporting event.

But not only does the organizer lose, but he also loses the Grand Prix itself, as the race takes place on a horrible circuit with three giant straights and four simple curves, in which the drivers may fall asleep from boredom, and where the Attendees will have to pay exorbitant prices for entry to the venue, lose sleep or money by stopping playing roulette due to the unfortunate hours, and with an entire city on the warpath. Las Vegas could be the big hit for Formula 1.

I particularly, as a great fan of Formula 1, will watch it on a delayed basis the next day. But I won’t stay awake to watch the cars race around a circuit that only has four little corners of nothing.
