The heat is on

With the team-up between TikTok Shop and Tokopedia in Indonesia to circumvent the curb on e-commerce businesses by social media platforms in the country, $Sea Ltd(SE)$ ’s once-thought unshakable leadership position in the Southeast Asia’s largest economy is increasingly being threatened. With Sea spending millions of dollars in subsidies and expansions to defend its market share at the expense of profitability, it may be years for the once-national pride of Singapore, but has since fallen from grace, to regain its past glory, if it ever will be able to.

On the contrary, the Chinese e-commerce market appears to remain robust despite slowing economy, given the vast size of the market and growing trend of online shopping that has grown exponentially since the onset of the pandemic, becoming irreversible and turning into the new normal for shopping. The trend has been giving brick-and-mortar stores a hard run for their money. Hence, I remain optimistic of $Alibaba(BABA)$ , $JD.com(JD)$ and especially $Pinduoduo Inc.(PDD)$ with its focus on fresh agricultural produces, that should continue to thrive regardless of the conditions of the economy.

Likewise, I like $Shopify(SHOP)$ that helps to enable new startups in the e-commerce, as these Amazon-wannabes turn to Shopify to help to build their online platforms to sell their products.
