Newbie's Blog: Building my portfolio this month

This month, I intend to set in place a strategy for my portfolio. In terms of stocks, I'm looking to continuing investing in several EV stocks, such as $NIO Inc.(NIO)$  and increasing my holdings. I am also thinking about $Tesla Motors(TSLA)$  but buying into this already over-valued stock (at this moment it is more than $250) requires caution. Thus, even if I do build on my Tesla portfolio, it will be slow so I can mitigate risk. Nio on the other hand seems to have more room for growth, although I suspect that it will fall below $9 some time soon. Recently releasing results of a 30% year on year growth for this year, as well as introducing a new model (to be released in 2025), has increased optimism in investors although I must point out that it missed its 2023 target (it promised to sell about 245,000 cars but only sold 160,000). It has however, reinforced one of its key strengths, which is battery swapping and met its target number of battery swapping stations. This key feature provides an advantage over others as it eliminates having to wait for the vehicle to charge and as we know, in this fast paced world, time equates to money.

The other stock I am looking at is of course, my "pet project" $Grab Holdings(GRAB)$  . This company is quickly reaching its goal of making profits, either this or next year and with the economy growing, there may be a chance that this milestone could be reached earlier (instead of its forecasted 2025). There are of course challenges in the PHV sector, with taxis and other PHV companies fighting for a piece of the pie, but with Grab's strong integration into everyday life (food delivery, banking, etc) with its easy to use app, I think Grab can weather the storm.

With that optimism however, I am also cautious of global events. With the ongoing war in Ukriane and Gaza, I am aware that disruptions to business and supply chains could occur any time. It is thus important that I build my portfolio slowly with disposable income as a storm could come in anytime. This is something I have learnt since the Ukriane war started.

In gist, this will be how I shape my strategy this month and will likely continue into 2024.

Bullish on EVs too! Bolus dose of funds followed by regular DCA into both for me:)

Grab is a stock that hasn't performed for me yet, although I still remain invested. I do have hopes for it, but I do fear that they're losing drivers in the ride hailing sector due to their high commissions, hard to meet incentive structure and rigidity in selection of passengers (from many anecdotal conversations with ride hailing platform drivers!)
