For instance, gold ETFs typically partner with banks that have vaults for storing physical gold.Most of the new bitcoin ETFs have selected Coinbase as their custodian. So when one of these funds acquires bitcoin, the coins are parked in a special account at Coinbase. Such custodians generally hold the keys to crypto assets in \"cold storage\" -- offline locations, not connected to the internet -- to keep them secure.
