Its not realistic to expect the first couple of generations to be able to compete with the top of the line nvidia products. It is more reasonable that they will compete in the mid and low budget class of graphics cards... The main competitor there is AMD. I think intel has a very good chance of surpassing AMD there and maybe longer term also have a shot at the high performance crown, currently worn by nvidia.
