The size of the overall market has expanded greatly, and NVDA scooping up increased market share is at the expense of AMD and INTC, while SMCI increasing their market share is at the expense of DELL, HPE, Lenovo, Quanta, IBM, etc.
SMCI has been partner of NVDA for 20+ years. They get engineering samples of gpus ahead of time, so that they can engineer chassis, motherboards, and cooling solutions to be ready to go the same day the new NVDA chips hit the market. Even if new entrants were able to secure this partnership, they'd still be behind a company that has been engineering this hardware for decades.
I believe DELL/others offering modular/liquid cooled data center hardware to claw back market share is the biggest threat to SMCI. But DELL/others are not a pure AI data center play the same way SMCI has focused itself. I am typing this on a DELL display. They are a big player in consumer electronics. And so an investment in DELL/HPE/Lenovo is different to me than SMCI.
