Why is Kamala Harris called “He Jin Li” in Chinese?
👨🏻 Her father, Donald Harris, is a professor emeritus of economics at Stanford University.
👩🏻 However, the person who influenced Kamala the most was her mother, whom we refer to as Mrs. Gopalan. Born in India, Mrs. Gopalan came from a family with three daughters and a son. Fortunately, their family belonged to the highest caste in India’s caste system, the Brahmins.
👮🏻♀️ In 2003, when Kamala ran for District Attorney of San Francisco, her Chinese-American lawyer friend Su Rongli asked her father, Su Xifen, to give Kamala a Chinese name—He Jin Li. This name was quite strategic, clearly aiming to connect with Chinese-American voters while also showcasing her ambition.
Kamala Harris has now stirred up a whirlwind across the United States, largely because her proposed policies are almost irresistible to young Americans:
Homeownership: A one-time subsidy of $25,000 for first-time homebuyers, disbursed as soon as they sign the contract.
Healthcare: Capping annual out-of-pocket medical expenses at $2,000 for American citizens, with the federal government covering anything beyond that, provided they have health insurance.
Family Support: A $6,000 annual subsidy for each newborn, with additional tax reductions for parents as the number of children increases.
Debt Relief: A promise to forgive all medical debt owed to hospitals, with the government paying the hospitals directly.
There’s no denying that Harris’s campaign policies have struck a chord with many Americans. But the question remains: Where will the U.S. find the money to fund all of this?
