As part of the Polaris Dawn mission launched two days ago, four crew members completed the world's first commercial spacewalk today.
The Falcon 9 rocket, launched from NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida, carried billionaire Jared Isaacman, SpaceX engineers Sarah Gillis and Anna Menon, and pilot Scott Poteet into space.
The Polaris Dawn mission, one of the most ambitious space tourism ventures, aims to achieve several milestones over five days, including the first privately funded human spacewalk.
Today, Isaacman and Gillis exited the SpaceX capsule, each spending over 10 minutes outside to test the performance of SpaceX's spacesuit. The capsule's door was then safely closed, and the cabin was repressurized.
“Back at home, we all have a lot of work to do. But from here, it sure looks like a perfect world," said Isaacman.
Isaacman plans to conduct a second Polaris Dawn mission in the coming years, potentially supporting NASA's Hubble Space Telescope. The mission includes three planned launches, with the third possibly marking the first crewed flight of SpaceX's Starship, signaling the start of a new era in human space exploration.
