There is a black swan risk I may lose 100% of my investment in BABA and anyone going into this needs to decide if that's an outcome they can accept. I think it's quite reasonable if you or anyone else concludes it's a "bad investment" that does not reflect their risk profile and investment style.
Thus far I've lost a little more than 10% of my investment in BABA in dozens of trades starting in 2018. That's a lousy outcome for such a long hold, and especially when contrasted against the progress of the rest of the market.
For Chinese equities, They're profitable, they're diversified, they have huge moats, they have smart ethical leadership, they're directly returning capital to shareholders, and they play at software engineering, which tends to lead good places. But right now all of them are facing the open question of whether or not China and America will decide to craft a mutually beneficial oligopoly. If CN and the USA can simply agree to leave one another's interests alone, my uninformed gut suggests that long-term holders of these equities will have a very happy ending.
