$Intel(INTC)$

Unfortunately these layoffs are the quickest way to reduce costs. Intel has been negligent in controlling/watching costs vs income.

IMO they may have a plan but the costs are exceedingly high, and questionable according to some.

While I believe in the Intel story and future the federal government putting money into a sinking company, (god this is hard to say) is doing the right thing. The Feds want Intel to succeed in the long run, but money management is paramount and the ROI needs to be positive. Had Intel not reduced costs the $8B would have been so diluted on day to day operation that long term it would have a minimal impact.

I think Intel is jumping through hoops right now posturing for a capital injection, buyout, or break up.

I suspect by the end of this year Intel will be quite different from what it is today.
