$IONQ Inc.(IONQ)$

After 3 years of following and investing in $IONQ Inc.(IONQ)$ it Is finally getting the attention it deserves. Recent hype in the quantum computing space has been crazy - most of the small-cap quantum computing companies ($Rigetti Computing(RGTI)$ , $D-Wave Systems Inc.(QBTS)$ and $Quantum Computing Inc.(QUBT)$ ) are like meme stocks with 10x gains within a short period of 2 months. However, there is a lack of quality information around this topic on Tiger so I thought I'd start sharing some of my research/learnings with you so that you can make better investment decisions.

There's a lot to write about but I'd start by giving an overview of the companies in this nascent field.

Mega-caps

Unsurprisingly, Google, IBM and Microsoft have teams developing their own quantum computing technologies.

Google - Technology: superconducting. Mainly research and putting out claims about solving problems that would take supercomputers eternity. quantumai.google

IBM - Technology: superconducting. Has more than 10 quantum computers accessible online for research usage. quantum.ibm.com

Microsoft - Technology: majorana. Still chasing the elusive majorana. Will be huge IF they succeed. Also operates a cloud-based quantum computing platform that allows access to quantum computers. quantum.microsoft.com

Amazon - not pursuing development of quantum computers but operates a cloud-based platform called Amazon Braket similar to Microsoft. aws.amazon.com/braket

Small-caps

IonQ - Technology: ion-trap. Aims to be a full-stack quantum computing company. Has 4-5 computers online via their private cloud and Amazon Braket. More about IonQ in later articles. www.ionq.com

Rigetti - Technology: superconducting. Similar tech with Google and IBM. Also have quantum computers available on Amazon Braket. www,Rigetti.com

D-wave - Technology: quantum annealing, superconducting. Been on the market for a long time (longer than IonQ). Primarily develops quantum-annealers with expressed desire to develop also a quantum computer. www.dwavesys.com

Quantum Computing Inc - Technology: photonics? Most likely a scam company. I will not touch it with a 10-foot pole. www.quantumcomputinginc.com

Not listed

PsiQuantum - Technology: photonics. Raises over $1B to build their fault tolerant system in Australia. Their "system" is forever in stealth mode. www.psiquantum.com

Quantinuum - Technology: ion-trap. Currently part of Honeywell but rumoured to be IPOed at $10-20B valuation. Closest contender to IonQ. www.quantinuum.com

Infleqtion - Technology: cold atoms. Has a lot of government contracts and projects building atomic clocks and quantum sensors. Probably profitable as-is. infleqtion.com

Atom Computing - Technology: neutral atoms. Potential technology with a lot of research interest recently. atom-computing.com

As you can see, there's a lot of development threads and no clear winner at the moment. I hope this is helpful for you to gain a better understanding of the technology landscape in this field. Please invest/trade safely with this in mind.

Next article, I'll share about the characteristics of the competing technologies  if you have any topics which you wish to know more about, please let me know in the comments.
