In October 2025, OpenAI and $Advanced Micro Devices(AMD)$ announced a strategic partnership that not only secures OpenAI’s future AI chip supply but also allows AMD to reclaim a leading voice in the AI chip race.

According to the joint statement, OpenAI will deploy up to 6 gigawatts of AMD’s AI computing power and may acquire up to 10% of AMD’s equity in stages.

The entire authorization structure is tied to procurement milestones and AMD’s stock performance, with the highest tier of stock options set at $600 per share, implying a market capitalization of around $1 trillion.

This partnership represents more than a supply agreement — it’s a value bet on the future landscape of the AI industry.

OpenAI Family Expanding: Is It A Blessing or A Curse?
OpenAI has been insanely busy lately — one moment it’s doing e-commerce, the next it’s getting into social, and now it’s even launching a browser. It announced plans to deploy 6GW of AMD Instinct GPUs. OpenAI went a step further and partnered with Broadcom to develop custom ASIC chips. Microsoft mainly provides OpenAI’s training compute, while Oracle handles inference workloads. Meanwhile, PayPal officially announced a partnership with OpenAI yesterday — its stock spiked but later gave back most of the gains by the close.
