The federal government released a new statement on space to build local industrial capability and boost technology exports.
The Australian Space Agency received new expectations to speed up approvals and monitor over 30,000 tracked space objects.
The agency will conduct targeted industry consultations to finalise concrete action plans by the end of the year.

The Australian government unveiled a new statement on space establishing five focus areas to expand local industrial capability.

Detailed consultation with industry stakeholders will now take place to finalise concrete sector actions by the end of the year.

"The Albanese government’s Statement on Space provides direction and focus so that we can further grow Australia’s space capability," said Industry and Innovation Minister Tim Ayres.

Under the updated framework, the Australian Space Agency will speed up approvals while monitoring over 30,000 objects in space.

Following the announcement, the Australian Space Agency share price was unchanged at $0.00 as an unlisted government entity.

The five target focus areas include trusted space services, spaceflight ecosystems, space platforms, microgravity ecosystems, and exploration technologies.

The Australian Space Agency stated that these core areas will address national needs and open international market pathways.
