Australia Post has secured $40.5 million in federal funding to accelerate the rollout of its heavy electric vehicle fleet.

The capital injection expands upon the government-owned operator's existing fleet of more than 5,000 smaller electric delivery vehicles.

'Australia Post has been at the forefront of electric vehicle adoption for over a decade, and this investment allows us to go further faster," said Australia Post Group CEO Paul Graham.

Scheduled for the 2026–2027 financial year, the programme will fund new electric trucks, prime movers, and depot switchboard upgrades.

The company stated that replacing diesel vehicles with electric models is expected to eliminate roughly one million litres of annual fuel consumption.

The fleet transition forms part of the postal carrier's broader strategy to achieve its 2030 operational sustainability targets.
