$Advanced Micro Devices(AMD)$  just picked up a new path into AI inference.

The Taalas deal gives AMD exposure to fixed-function AI chips, where models are embedded directly into silicon to deliver faster and cheaper inference. Taalas has already demonstrated chips running a smaller version of Meta's Llama 3.1.

The bigger picture: AMD is not only chasing GPU scale anymore. It's targeting the cost and efficiency side of AI deployment.

Taalas is already developing chips for larger and more advanced models, suggesting this could be more than a one-off experiment.
