NetEase reported Q2 net revenue of RMB 30.1 billion, up 7.9% year-over-year and beating market expectations of RMB 29.54 billion. Gross profit came in at RMB 21.2 billion, rising 17.5% year-over-year and surpassing the consensus estimate of RMB 19.57 billion.
In contrast, adjusted diluted net income per ADS from operating activities was RMB 12.02, falling short of the market's expected RMB 15.59.
On a segment basis, online game services revenue reached RMB 25.02 billion, exceeding expectations by RMB 740 million, while innovation and other businesses generated RMB 1.64 billion in revenue, in line with market forecasts.
On the bottom line, net profit attributable to shareholders of the company was RMB 7.0 billion, down nearly 18.6% from RMB 8.6 billion in the same period last year. Following the earnings release, the stock fell more than 5% in U.S. pre-market trading.
The decline in net profit was primarily due to investment impairment charges. The company holds shares in NetEase Cloud Music, and the continued decline in Cloud Music's share price resulted in a reduction in the company's profits, weighing on overall performance.
On the gaming front, titles such as the Fantasy Westward Journey series, Identity V, and Eggy Party continued to deliver strong performance, driven by rich content updates, with the gaming business beating expectations. Games including Where Winds Meet and Marvel Rivals have expanded into overseas markets such as North America and Europe, leveraging new content and marketing strategies.
Turning to Youdao, the company has been deepening its AI-native strategy. In the second quarter, it launched the Ziyue 4.0 large model, achieving industry-leading inference capabilities at low cost—a breakthrough for its AI business. NetEase Cloud Music also maintained steady development, with its underlying performance largely in line with expectations.
