Apple has officially announced its fall launch event for Wednesday, SeptemberāÆ9 (US Eastern Time) at its California headquarters, themed āSurprise and shineā. The event will also stream live online. $č¹ę(AAPL)$
This event carries special significance: it marks John Ternusā first major product launch as CEO. Ternus was a key driving force behind the foldable iPhone project, and this gathering formally kicks off the Ternus era at Apple.
The biggest highlight is Appleās firstāever foldable iPhone, entering a foldableāphone market currently dominated by Samsung. This foldable represents arguably the biggest physical redesign in iPhone history. Roughly the size of a standard passport, it opens up to a screen close to a small iPad.
Apple is also set to unveil the iPhoneāÆ18 Pro / 18 Pro Max, with upgraded chips, battery life and camera systems. The larger model will feature a mechanical aperture.
Not all iPhoneā18āline devices will show up, however. The secondāgeneration iPhone Air and baseāmodel iPhoneāÆ18 are pushed to next springās event. They will launch alongside the iPhoneāÆ18e, new Macs and new iPads. Apple hopes this will smooth out sales throughout the calendar year.
Other hardware is in the pipeline: new Apple Watch models will likely debut alongside the iPhones. Also in preparation are a screenāequipped HomePod mini, updated Apple TV setātop box and refreshed iPad mini.
On paper this event is packed with catalysts: a newāCEO debut plus Appleās first foldable handset. Market expectations have run high. Still, Appleās fall product launches do not always trigger positive stockāprice reactions. Below we review nextātradingāday performance over the past five fall flagship events for reference.

Appleās September keynote is never a guaranteed ābuyā signal. With these two major new variables in play, bullābear divergence will be sharp. Whether the foldable handset becomes a new growth catalyst for AAPL remains to be seen. We await what SeptemberāÆ9ās event will deliver.
