🚀 SpaceX: $84.5B AI Commitment — But What Does It Really Mean?

$SpaceX(SPCX)$ The headline number is hard to ignore.

Anthropic’s latest filing shows agreements with SpaceX worth up to $84.5B through 2029 for Nvidia-based computing capacity — almost double the roughly $45B figure SpaceX had previously disclosed.

But there’s an important detail behind the headline: these agreements can generally be cancelled with 90 days’ notice.

So I wouldn’t treat the full $84.5B as locked-in revenue.

What I find more interesting is what this says about the direction of SpaceX’s business.

Anthropic expects to spend at least $518B over the next decade across major infrastructure partners as AI companies race to secure compute. SpaceX is becoming part of that infrastructure story, rather than being purely a launch and satellite company.

And Starship adds another layer.

Starship’s latest flight reached orbit and deployed 26 Starlink V3 satellites — a major milestone for SpaceX’s launch ambitions. But the connection between Starship and orbital AI data centres is still much more speculative. SpaceX itself has warned that operating AI compute in space has never been demonstrated and carries significant technical risks.

So for me, the interesting question isn’t simply whether SpaceX can become an AI infrastructure giant.

It’s whether the terrestrial compute business can scale first, while Starship eventually makes the much more ambitious orbital-compute vision possible.

The $84.5B number gets attention.

The real story may be what SpaceX can actually turn into recurring revenue.

Would you value SpaceX more for its AI compute business, Starlink, or Starship over the next few years?

Anthropic Discloses $84.5B SpaceX Commitment — Does Starship Get Another Boost?
SpaceX (SPCX) rose 2.59% Tuesday, riding momentum from Starship's first orbital milestone, while an Anthropic filing revealed an $84.5 billion commitment to SpaceX, signaling that AI giants are directing compute and connectivity investment toward space. Elon Musk has previously stated that orbital compute capacity will far exceed analyst forecasts by 2028, with Starlink poised to become Earth's de facto internet backbone. With Anthropic backing the orbital compute story with $84.5 billion, will commercialization accelerate, or has the valuation already run ahead of reality?
