Moody's upgraded TSMC's issuer rating to Aa2 from Aa3, pointing to its dominant foundry position, technology leadership in advanced nodes, and sustained AI-driven demand. The outlook was revised to stable from positive, and senior unsecured debt ratings for TSMC financing subsidiaries were also upgraded.
The upgrade reflects strong financials. Q3 2026 revenue was up 51% year over year, with advanced nodes making up 79% of total wafer revenue. Moody's expects annual revenue growth of 30%-45% over the next 12-18 months and EBITDA margins approaching 75%, as process-node optimization offsets initial costs from ramping 2-nanometer production and overseas facilities.
TSMC's credit profile also gets support from roughly NT$4.0 trillion in cash and marketable securities at the end of September 2026.
