1️⃣ Why am I making this trade now?
Capitalizing on Elevated Implied Volatility (IV): Ahead of upcoming catalysts and calendar updates, options markets frequently price in an inflated expected move. By selling premium rather than chasing directional momentum, I am letting time decay (theta) and volatility contraction work in my favor.
Bullish Structural Outlook on Crypto Infrastructure: Despite near-term choppy price action and macro noise, Coinbase remains a premier proxy for regulated digital asset adoption, institutional volume, and staking revenue. Buying dips or getting assigned quality shares at a lower cost basis aligns with my long-term accumulation strategy.
Defined Risk via Cash-Secured Credit: Selling puts with a clear credit structure allows me to generate consistent cash flow while ensuring that if the market dips and I get put the stock, it is at a strike price I am fundamentally comfortable holding.
2️⃣ What’s my plan from here?
Monitoring Technicals and Support Levels: I will be watching key volume profiles and moving averages to see how COIN reacts around major psychological and technical levels following the calendar event.
Profit Target & Early Management: If implied volatility crushes quickly post-catalyst and the option position achieves a 50% to 70% profit target, I look to buy back the puts early to lock in gains and free up buying power.
Assignment Preparedness: If the market pulls back aggressively and the trade gets tested, I am fully prepared to take assignment on the shares, subsequently layering in covered call strategies to lower my net cost basis over time.
Reassessment Triggers: A structural shift in regulatory headwinds or a broad breakdown in macro risk assets would cause me to reassess my short put exposure and defensively roll or adjust the strike distance
