I believe Microsoft possesses one of the strongest economic moats, supported by high switching costs, network effects and its extensive enterprise ecosystem.
Microsoft 365, Azure and enterprise software are deeply integrated into business operations. Switching providers involves substantial migration costs, retraining and operational disruption, supporting recurring revenue.
However, a strong moat does not automatically justify a premium valuation. I would assess forward P/E, ROE, earnings growth and free cash flow alongside historical valuations. High ROE can also be distorted by leverage or share buybacks.
Microsoft's substantial AI capital expenditure presents opportunities but also risks if returns disappoint.
Ultimately, I favour businesses with durable competitive advantages, strong balance sheets and sustainable cash generation, purchased at reasonable valuations.
