西風帶，又稱盛行西風帶[1]，是中緯度地區（緯度在35°－65°之間）自西向東吹的盛行風，由**帶高壓帶的高壓區域吹向極地區域。[2]北半球的西風帶主要吹西南風，南半球則主要吹西北風。當半球處於冬季且極地附近的氣壓較低時，西風帶最強；而當半球處於夏季且極地附近的氣壓較高時，西風帶最弱。南半球的中緯度地區少有會導致西風減速的陸地，因此盛行西風格外強。西風帶中存在着各類溫帶氣旋和反氣旋。越過**帶高壓脊線進入西風帶的熱帶氣旋會因西風的增加而轉向，並可能發生溫帶變性。盛行西風還把溫暖的赤道水和空氣帶到中緯度大陸的西海岸，對其氣候特徵起着重要作用。
