Wild tigers were on the brink of extinction until the world came together in 2010 and committed to doubling their population by 2022. It’s a rare glimmer of hope for biodiversity everywhere that one of the world’s most ambitious conservation goals has reversed decades of decline. But this progress is fragile. Tigers are still the most threatened big cat species, reduced to just 5% of their historic range.
We are now in the year 2022, the Year of the Tiger - a once in a 12-year opportunity to come together to protect tigers! On 26 February, WWF-Singapore launched the AR-mazing Tiger Trail 2022 featuring 33 life-sized tiger sculptures that are exhibited across Singapore, with five of them sponsored by our Premier Partner, Tiger Brokers. The sculptures are designed by a collective of internationally acclaimed artists from Singapore and beyond; each presenting a unique perspective on how climate change, poaching, and deforestation is affecting tigers in the wild.
The highly-visual, gamified trail was made available in Singapore physically and virtually for our global friends too, a purr-fect way for you to learn more about the iconic species. The amazing sculptures and other artworks will be auctioned off in April, with the proceeds going into furthering WWF-Singapore’s important tiger conservation work.
