If I could travel back to 2022, where would I travel?
You know, in all honesty, this seemed at first a very easy question for me to answer. The reason is because I started this year and I started green, meaning stocks were on the rise at the beginning of the year. From Jan, this peaked (I understand that stocks peaked on 3 Jan, most of them anyway) but as I had just started, I didn't have the advantage of knowing the peaks.
However, since then, most of my stocks have been in red since recession fears and war started. This is the reason I think about travelling back haunts me. The key question I always ask is this: Given that I gained my stock experience from this journey, would I give it up to go back and perhaps not known loss or learnt from the journey?
This question is not easy because on one hand, while I wish I didn't lose that money at the start of the year, a friend of mine @koolgal has a motto which inspires me: "The Best is yet to come". If I believe this, then I should forego the loss as this is my investment ahead! So no matter how much I've lost this year, it cannot be compared to how much I'll gain in future! Crazy right? Haha, anyway, while hindsight is always 20/20, I have learnt to look forward and think about what to do next. Sometimes I do feel a tinge of regret but it feels better if I treat the lessons as payment for an investing course, all with total hands-on application. I treasure that lesson because indeed, I choose to believe the best times are ahead.
In retrospective, just to share:
1. My biggest profit was $48 from $Grab Holdings(GRAB)$
2. Greatest loss was from $DBS GROUP HOLDINGS LTD(D05.SI)$
3. $SoFi Technologies Inc.(SOFI)$ was my 3rd largest loss in Jul at $500. I deserve this for jumping in when I saw it jump 20% and wanted to join the bandwagon. No guesses when the stock tanked the moment I bought it (well to be precise, it made me $16 on paper before it dropped).
4. Magic Empire is my "once bitten twice shy" loss. You would think after the experience with Sofi I would have learnt but no... I was tempted and today, I have an 80% loss on the stock. I hate to see it in my portfolio but I choose not to sell it as a reminder of my silliness in buying it when the stock rose beyond belief but it serves as my "post-it" note not to buy Meme stocks. Loss at $38.
So there you have most of my lessons learnt this year. Would I go back? Well, really, I don't know. While going back offers me a chance to make millions, staying offers me the chance to learn from experience. What if @koolgal that the best is in the future? Thus, I encourage all to look forward (anyway, it's reality right?), face the future and continue learning! It's not just investing, it's life!
