The company was formerly known as Specialty Fashion Group Limited and changed its name to City Chic Collective Limited in November 2018. City Chic Collective Limited was incorporated in 1992 and is based in Alexandria, Australia.

In 1992, City Chic Collective founded by Gary Perlstein and Ian Miller as Miller's Retail.

In 1998, Miller's Retail was listed on the Australian Stock Exchange.

In 1999, Miller's Retail acquired the Katies womenswear chain from Coles Myer.

In 2000, Miller's Retail acquired Crazy Clark's and Go-Lo stores.

In 2006, Miller's Retail rebranded to Specialty Fashion Group.

In 2018, Specialty Fashion Group sold five of its brands to Noni B, leaving only one brand, City Chic, in its portfolio.

In 2018, the remaining operations were rebranded City Chic Collective .

In 2019, City Chic Collective purchased the e-commerce assets of Avenue Stores from its administrator.

In 2021, City Chic Collective acquired JPC United GmbH for $7M.

In 2022, City Chic Collective acquired E-commerce Assets, Avenue for $16.5M.
