U.S. stocks rose Monday, continuing a relief rally that began last week when all three major averages snapped three-week slumps. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained nearly 230 points, or 0.7%. The S&P 500 rose close to 1.1%, and the Nasdaq Composite added about 1.3%.On Tuesday, all eyes will be on the August CPI report, which is expected to show a 0.1% decrease in headline inflation on a monthly basis, according to estimates from Dow Jones.

The consumer price index will be released Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. ET, and the report could be a bit messy since headline inflation is expected to fall while core inflation, excluding energy and food, should rise. The report is one of the last the Fed will see ahead of their Sept. 20-21 meeting. The report is also key because it is expected to influence the Federal Reserve’s decision on how much to raise interest rates next week — and more importantly, in the long term.

    I stay in the bearish camp for now. Recently oil price rebounded after OPEC announced supply cut. Although home price has drop, but rental price surged due to home purchase delay. IMO CPI will be >8%

    The US markets are currently fueled by investors' optimism that inflation is on its way down and commodities prices are dropping.  

    There is also less uncertainty about high interest rates hikes.  The prediction is that the Feds will raise interest rates by 75 BP in September is also factored in.

    I predict that SPY will close Green on Tuesday 13 September.

    The analysts expected inflation to be around 8.1%. Most drivers of high inflation such as crude oil, housing rents, wheat, corn have decreased and stabilized, hence it is likely that inflation has already peaked!! I'm guessing CPI around 7+% or less

    Economists expect that the headline number fell 0.1% month on month, with the an annual rate projected to come in at 8.1%. The core CPI is forecast to have risen 0.3% compared to the previous month.

    i would guess that SPY will move side ways between $409, $410 to $411 with very minimal change as the interest rates and other data would hv been priced in. the CPI will not hv been a surprise
