$(AMC)$ I've found this to be true for some movies, quite the opposite for others. When I saw Avatar: WoW, for instance, it had been out for weeks, but 80% of the seats were taken. When I saw Quantumania, also out for weeks, maybe 25% of the seats were taken. I've definitely been the only person in a theater, too, but it's not common in my area. Meanwhile, theaters have gotten more aggressive on concession pricing and trimmed staffing levels. Were it not for its massive debt, AMC would have a clear path to profitability.

But the debt is real, and that's what makes AMC different from Cinemark. AMC has a lot of high-interest debt. Worse, AMC is saddled with a retail shareholder base that actively prevented it from raising cash during a short-lived period where it might plausibly paid off its entire debt because they worried that their shares that had increased 35X might be impeded in an imaginary move to $1000 or more. They still think so, and I think they'll still be waiting for that short squeeze when the company is handed over to creditors.
