Understanding who are the top-performing investors and what they invest in would be a shortcut that most of us would like to take when it comes to what to invest in. Whilst there is no such thing as an investing shortcut, researching someone that has skills in investing can be a good way of maneuvering through the stock market and establishing your investing journey. In order to find the right person with similar investing interests to you, you need to find out who the top-performing investors are and what they are buying or selling.
Tiger Trade has created a feature to help you find out the answers step by step.
First, you need to define what makes people top-performing investors.
While beginners tend to look to investors who have profited most, there is a more effective indicator——the winning rate. Put simply, the winning rate is the percentage of shares that you trade that is profitable over the total number of trades. For example, if you have traded 10 shares in the past year, and 6 of them are profitable, then your winning rate during this year is 60%.
We compared the winning rates among different users (the entire user base of Tiger Brokers) and found a similarity: those with a high winning rate in the long term tend (at least 1 year) to have a high winning rate in recent trading (with position holding period less than 1 year).
What does it mean? The performance of these top investors can probably be attributed to their capacity to understand the stock market, other than just luck.
How did we compare exactly? We screened out those who have traded more than five stocks in the US or Hong Kong stock market in the past 1/2/3 years on Tiger Trade, and have a winning rate of more than 70% or more than 80% at the same time. Statistics showed that the winning rate of this particular group of people is also much higher than that of other people in recent trades. For example, when we screen out the investors whose winning rate in US stock is more than 80% in the past two years, we will find that their winning rate in the past 10/20/30/60 days is also as high as 80%, far higher than the 40% winning rate of other investors (datas include investors with long and short positions).
Of course, we all know that past performance is no guarantee of future results, but those who keep a high winning rate seem to be worth paying more attention to.
Here is a way to see what these top-performing investors are trading on Tiger Trade. Click theSearch button and click the Bull List banner.
How to use the Bull List?
1.Pick the period. The longer the period, the more data will be included.
2.Pick the market and the corresponding winning rate. 70% winning rate is good, but 80% is definitely better.
3.Now that you have the top-performing investors' trading list. Pick the period of time you want to see what they are trading. Slide left and you will see more data on those trades. The number of days here represents the recent number of trading days.
4.Sort by the number of buyers/sellers (both buyers and sellers here represent the net buying or net selling numbers of investors in the selected period), the higher the number of investors, the higher the current popularity of the stock.
5.Finally, pay attention to the proportion of people buying or selling because this is very important.
What does this indicator mean?
(1) When the percentage is between 40% and 60%, it means that those top-performing investors are neutral on the stock;
(2) When the percentage is greater than 70%, it means that most of the top-performing investors are buying (bullish) the stock. Pay more attention if this indicator keeps high for several consecutive days, because it means that more top-performing investors are buying the stock.
(3) When the percentage is less than 30%, it means that most of the top-performing investors are selling (bearish) the stock.
