Tesla showcased the new Quicksilver color at the Zurich auto show, giving us a closer look at Tesla’s first new paint color — and Full Self-Driving hardware in years.
Quicksilver is outfitted on a Model Y Performance, offering an aesthetic that complements the multi-layered color well alongside blacked-out design elements.
There are as many as thirteen layers of paint that come together to create a unique shade of silver that’s darker than a standard silver metallic. It’s still distinctly lighter than the Midnight Silver Metallic that Quicksilver is replacing in the European market.
This Model Y has the latest manufacturing design, featuring slightly larger cameras to accommodate the new Full Self-Driving hardware that will power the Tesla Vision-based approach. Tesla is increasing the megapixel-count on its next iteration of Full Self-Driving hardware. The front-facing cameras are noticeably improved with larger lenses.
The new Quicksilver color joins Midnight Cherry Red as exclusive new colors produced at the state-of-the-art paint shop at Giga Berlin.
Real Talk
Anecdotally, we love the Quicksilver color: it’s such a pleasant shade of silver, highlighting the high-tech design of Model Y.
The refined interior with wood trim on the door panels also looks more luxurious, and the quality of the Giga Berlin-produced Model Y appears to be second-to-none.
New Full Self-Driving cameras appear to be higher-quality from outside of the vehicle, and the latest design gives more precedence to the larger camera sensors.
We’re impressed at the direction Tesla is heading, and hope to see similar features imminently offered at Giga Fremont and Giga Austin.
