Long-Term","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1191592028","media":"investorplace","summary":"Semiconductor stocks have been in the limelight during the ongoing chip shortage, which has been aff","content":"
Semiconductor stocks have been in the limelight during the ongoing chip shortage, which has been affecting a range of firms, especially in the tech andautomotivesectors. Chips have had a significant impact on technology and innovation in the past several decades. Today, we find chips in items ranging from smartphones, to air conditioners, fridges, LED bulbs, rice cookers, TVs and cars, including electric vehicles (EVs). Therefore, today’s article discusses seven stocks that will survive the semiconductor shortage long-term.

Recent research published in theSoftware Quality Professionalhighlights, “The semiconductor industry has been a model for innovation over the last couple of decades. The complexity of integrated circuit (IC) designs has increased, and the process to produce them has become more challenging due to variable market demand.”

MostInvestorPlace.comreaders are familiar with the fact that the semiconductor sector is mostly based on an outsourced manufacturing model. Put another way, most semiconductor firms design chips in-house that then get manufactured elsewhere. This type of fabrication is commonly referred to as “fab” or “foundry.”

As a cyclical industry, the semiconductor sector goes through periods of booms and busts. Developments in artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things, (IoT), and machine learning will increase the global demand for chips. Analysts concur the surging demand, especially the pandemic, for consumer electronics and EVs have in part contributed to the current shortage. Over the past year, chip shares have been firing on all cylinders. The widely-followedPHLX Semiconductor Sector Indexreturned about 129% in the past 12 months.

The chip industry is extremely important for our economy. According to a jointreportby theSemiconductor Industry Associationand theBoston Consulting Group, “The US semiconductor industry has long been the global semiconductor leader, consistently accounting for 45% to 50% of global revenues.”Furthermore, “Growth in global semiconductor demand is projected to require a 56 percent increase in manufacturing over the next 10 years.”

With that information here are seven stocks as semiconductors continue to make the headlines:

Applied Materials(NASDAQ:AMAT)

Hyundai Motor Company(OTCMKTS:HYMTF)

Kulicke & Soffa Industries(NASDAQ:KLIC)

Microsoft(NASDAQ:MSFT)

Nvidia (NASDAQ:NVDA)

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (NYSE:TSM)

Texas Instruments(NASDAQ:TXN)

Semiconductors: Applied Materials (AMAT)Source: michelmond / Shutterstock.com

52-week range:$46.22 – $146

YTD price change:Up about 66%

Dividend yield:0.7%

Santa Clara, California-based Applied Materials is one of the largest semiconductor fabrication equipment suppliers based on revenue. In other words, the group makes tools and equipment used in chip manufacturing. The company’s history goes back to 1967.

When foundries need more equipment, they turn to Applied Materials. The company also supplies LCD equipment for the flat panel display industry as well as photovoltaic (PV) technology manufacturing systems for the solar industry.

The companyreleasedfirst-quarter fiscal-year 2021 results on Feb. 18. Revenue was $5.16 billion. On a non-GAAP adjusted basis, Applied Materials reported gross margin of 45.9%, operating income of $1.50 billion, and EPS of $1.39. Cash from operations stood at $1.42 billion, and dividends paid was $201 million.

CEO Gary Dickerson said, “In our first fiscal quarter, we’ve seen a continued acceleration of demand in our semiconductor business as major macro and industry trends fuel increasing consumption of silicon across a wide range of markets and applications.”

AMAT relies on organic growth, therefore the chip shortage is providing tailwinds for the shares, which returned over 238% in the past year. Forward price-to-earnings (P/E) and price-to-sales (P/S) ratios stand at 23.81 and 7.17, respectively. April means a busy earnings season is upon us when many semiconductor stocks report. Any potential decline toward the $130 level or below would improve the margin of safety.

Hyundai Motor Company (HYMTF)Source: Renovacio / Shutterstock.com

52-week range:$20.29 – $71.00

YTD price change:Up about 12%

Dividend yield:2.9%

Our next stock comes from the automotive sector, one of the most affected industries during the current semiconductor shortage. Established in 1967, the South Korea-based Hyundai is a leading automobile manufacturer. It also owns a 34% stake inKia Motors(OTCMKTS:KIMTF). In recent months, to the delight of investors, the company has been putting more resources intoEVs.

At the end of January, Hyundai Motor Companyannouncedits financial results for Q4 and full-year 2020. In the fourth-quarter, total sales volume declined by 4.7% year-over-year. Yet, Q4 sales revenue increased by 5.1 % YoY to 29.24 trillion KRW. Net profit grew by a massive 44% as the company recorded 1.38 trillion KRW in profit.

Analysts noted that new models, such as all-new Tucson SUV and Elantra sedan, as well as luxury brands, such as the G80 sedan and GV80 SUV of Genesis, helped boost sales momentum. In 2021, management expects a revenue growth of 14-15%.

In the past year, Hyundai shares returned 129%. The stock’s forward P/E and P/S are 4.21 and 0.15. Despite the run-up in price, the valuation is not frothy. Potential investors could consider buying the dips. I expect the company to increase its market share in the current markets and make progress in its EV penetration.

Kulicke & Soffa Industries (KLIC)Source: Shutterstock

52-week range:$20.10– $56.67

YTD price change:Up about 75%

Dividend yield:1.1%

Our next company is another semiconductor equipment stock. Singapore-based Kulicke & Soffa Industries provides semiconductor, LED and electronic assembly solutions for a range of industries. It generates most of its revenue from the Asia-Pacific region.

Kulicke & Soffa announced itsQ1 2021results at the beginning of February. Revenue showed a hefty 85.6% YoY increase, climbing to $267.9 million. Net income jumped by 187.2% YoY and reached $53.7 million. Diluted EPS followed a similar pattern and was up by 196.6% to hit 86 cents. Cash and equivalents were $576.7 million at the end of the period.

CEO Fusen Chen stated, “Demand has increased significantly in the December quarter driven by strength in the general semiconductor, LED and automotive markets.” The Company expects total sales revenue in Q2 2021 (ending April 3, 2021) to be approximately $300 million +/- $20 million.

KLIC stock’s price-to-book (P/B) and P/S ratios are 4.27 and 4.69. Finding undervalued growth stocks in the chip space is becoming increasingly difficult. But I expect the company to create shareholder value for many more quarters. Any decline toward $45 would offer a better opportunity to buy into the KLIC share price. Further bullish headlines regarding the semiconductor space will likely provide further momentum for the stock.

Microsoft (MSFT)Source: NYCStock / Shutterstock.com

52-week range:$162.30 – $249.96

YTD price change:Up about 12%

Dividend yield:0.9%

Our next company, Microsoft, does not immediately come to mind as a semiconductor stocks. As one of the biggest technology companies of the world, the firm is best known for its Windows operating systems, Office productivity suite and increasingly for Microsoft Azure, its cloud services.

The company has recentlyannouncedit would start making its own chips so that it could rely less onIntel’s(NASDAQ:INTC) technology. In November 2020, the company introduced theMicrosoft Plutonprocessor. On another note, co-founded Bill Gates has recentlyinvestedin “Luminous, a small start-up building an artificial intelligence chip.”

Management announcedQ2 2021results at the end of January. Revenue increased by 17% YoY to hit $43.1 billion. The biggest revenue driver was the intelligent cloud segment with a hefty 23% YoY increase. Net income rose by 33% YoY and reached $15.5 billion. Diluted EPS also jumped by 34% YoY to $2.03. Cash and equivalents at the end of period stood at $132 billion.

Amy Hood, Microsoft CFO, cited “For FY21, with our strong performance in the first half of the fiscal year and our outlook for Q3, we expect to deliver another full year of double-digit revenue and operating income growth, as well as healthy operating margin expansion even after excluding the impact of the change in accounting estimate and COVID-related savings.”

MSFT stock’sforward P/Eand P/S are 30.86 and 12.42. In recent days, the company made the headlines when it announced that it has secured a massive Pentagon contract worth over $20 billion. Investors were delighted. Over the past 12 months, the shares have returned 61%. Given Microsoft’s resources and agility, we can expect the company to make inroads in chip manufacturing in the coming quarters. With this new initiative under its belt too, the company is likely to increase shareholder value throughout the rest of the year.

Nvidia (NVDA)Source: Antonio Baccardi / Shutterstock.com

52-week range:$257 – $614.90

YTD price change:Up about 6%

Dividend yield:0.1%

With a market capitalization (cap) of about $343 billion, the Santa Clara, California-based Nvidia is one of the most important chip companies. It focuses on personal computer (PC) graphics, graphics processing units (GPU) and AI. Nvidia is well-known for its GPU chips and Tegra Processors. Its GPU product brands are aimed at specialized markets, including GeForce for gamers, Quadro for designers, Tesla and DGX for AI data scientists and big data researchers, and GRID for cloud-based visual computing users.

In late February, the companyannouncedQ4 and full-year results. The record quarterly revenue of $5 billion meant an increase of 61% YoY and 6% sequentially. Non-GAAP EPS was $3.10, up 64% YoY and 7% sequentially.Nvidia reports revenue in four segments:

Data Center (Q4 revenue was a record $1.9 billion)

Gaming (Q4 revenue was a record $2.5 billion)

Professional Visualization (Q4 revenue was $307 million)

Automotive (Q4 revenue was $145 million)

In the past 12 months, NVDA stock is up about 116%. As a result, forward P/E and P/S ratios of 41.32 and 20.81 point to a frothy valuation. Coupled with sectoral volatility and rising Treasury yields, short-term profit-taking in the shares is likely. Buy-and-hold investors could regard any move toward the $500 level as a better entry point. In the long-run, Nvidia’s fast-growing top and bottom lines will lead to new record-highs in the share price.

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (TSM)Source: Shutterstock

52-week range:$47.72 – $142.20

YTD price change:Up about 12%

Dividend yield:1.4%

Taiwan-based Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing is the world’s largest semiconductor foundry. It is highly regarded for its semiconductor process technology, and currently serves over 500 customers worldwide. The company dominates the fab side of the semiconductor space.

In mid-January, TSM announced Q4 fiscal year 2020results. Consolidated revenue showed an increase of 14% YoY. Net income was also up 23% YoY. Diluted EPS was $0.97 per ADR unit, increasing 23% YoY.

Wendell Huang, VP and Chief Financial Officer, cited, “Moving into first quarter 2021, we expect our business to be supported by HPC-related demand, recovery in the automotive segment, and a milder smartphone seasonality than in recent years.”

In the past 52 weeks, TSM stock is up close to 160%. Forward P/E and P/S ratios are 32.79 and 13.74, respectively. The company is expected to release Q1 results in the coming days. Potential investors might want to analyze the metrics and wait for a potential pull-back in the share price. A decline toward the $110 level would improve the margin of safety. The global chip shortage should mean strong demand for the company.

Texas Instruments(TXN)Source: Katherine Welles / Shutterstock.com

52-week range:$105.30 – $197.58

YTD price change:Up about 19%

Dividend yield:2.1%

For our next stock, Texas Instruments, we go from Taiwan to Dallas, Texas. The company focuses on analog chips and embedded processors. With 14 manufacturing sites worldwide, the chip group provides 80,000 products for over 100,000 customers, which mostly come from the consumer electronics, automotive and industrial markets.

TXNannouncedQ4 and full-year results in late January.Revenue was $4.08 billion, an increase of 22% YoY.Net income came at $1.69 billion, up 58% YoY.EPS of $1.80 also meant an increase of 61% YoY.Free cash flow during the quarter was $1.9 billion. Analysts concurred that it was a robust quarter for the group.

CEO Rich Templeton commented, “Together, our dividends and stock repurchases reflect our continued commitment to return all free cash flow to our owners. Chips have had a significant impact on technology and innovation in the past several decades. Today, we find chips in items ranging from smartphones, to air conditioners, fridges, LED bulbs, rice cookers, TVs and cars, including electric vehicles (EVs). Therefore, today’s article discusses seven stocks that will survive the semiconductor shortage long-term.Recent research published in theSoftware Quality Professionalhighlights, “The semiconductor industry has been a model for innovation over the last couple of decades. The complexity of integrated circuit (IC) designs has increased, and the process to produce them has become more challenging due to variable market demand.”MostInvestorPlace.comreaders are familiar with the fact that the semiconductor sector is mostly based on an outsourced manufacturing model. Put another way, most semiconductor firms design chips in-house that then get manufactured elsewhere. This type of fabrication is commonly referred to as “fab” or “foundry.”As a cyclical industry, the semiconductor sector goes through periods of booms and busts. According to a jointreportby theSemiconductor Industry Associationand theBoston Consulting Group, “The US semiconductor industry has long been the global semiconductor leader, consistently accounting for 45% to 50% of global revenues.”Furthermore, “Growth in global semiconductor demand is projected to require a 56 percent increase in manufacturing over the next 10 years.”With that information here are seven stocks as semiconductors continue to make the headlines:Applied Materials(NASDAQ:AMAT)Hyundai Motor Company(OTCMKTS:HYMTF)Kulicke & Soffa Industries(NASDAQ:KLIC)Microsoft(NASDAQ:MSFT)Nvidia (NASDAQ:NVDA)Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (NYSE:TSM)Texas Instruments(NASDAQ:TXN)Semiconductors: Applied Materials (AMAT)Source: michelmond / Shutterstock.com52-week range:$46.22 – $146YTD price change:Up about 66%Dividend yield:0.7%Santa Clara, California-based Applied Materials is one of the largest semiconductor fabrication equipment suppliers based on revenue. In other words, the group makes tools and equipment used in chip manufacturing. The company’s history goes back to 1967.When foundries need more equipment, they turn to Applied Materials. Cash from operations stood at $1.42 billion, and dividends paid was $201 million.CEO Gary Dickerson said, “In our first fiscal quarter, we’ve seen a continued acceleration of demand in our semiconductor business as major macro and industry trends fuel increasing consumption of silicon across a wide range of markets and applications.”AMAT relies on organic growth, therefore the chip shortage is providing tailwinds for the shares, which returned over 238% in the past year. Forward price-to-earnings (P/E) and price-to-sales (P/S) ratios stand at 23.81 and 7.17, respectively. April means a busy earnings season is upon us when many semiconductor stocks report. Any potential decline toward the $130 level or below would improve the margin of safety.Hyundai Motor Company (HYMTF)Source: Renovacio / Shutterstock.com52-week range:$20.29 – $71.00YTD price change:Up about 12%Dividend yield:2.9%Our next stock comes from the automotive sector, one of the most affected industries during the current semiconductor shortage. Established in 1967, the South Korea-based Hyundai is a leading automobile manufacturer. It also owns a 34% stake inKia Motors(OTCMKTS:KIMTF). In recent months, to the delight of investors, the company has been putting more resources intoEVs.At the end of January, Hyundai Motor Companyannouncedits financial results for Q4 and full-year 2020. In the fourth-quarter, total sales volume declined by 4.7% year-over-year. Yet, Q4 sales revenue increased by 5.1 % YoY to 29.24 trillion KRW. Net profit grew by a massive 44% as the company recorded 1.38 trillion KRW in profit.Analysts noted that new models, such as all-new Tucson SUV and Elantra sedan, as well as luxury brands, such as the G80 sedan and GV80 SUV of Genesis, helped boost sales momentum. In 2021, management expects a revenue growth of 14-15%.In the past year, Hyundai shares returned 129%. The stock’s forward P/E and P/S are 4.21 and 0.15. Despite the run-up in price, the valuation is not frothy. Potential investors could consider buying the dips. I expect the company to increase its market share in the current markets and make progress in its EV penetration.Kulicke & Soffa Industries (KLIC)Source: Shutterstock52-week range:$20.10– $56.67YTD price change:Up about 75%Dividend yield:1.1%Our next company is another semiconductor equipment stock. Singapore-based Kulicke & Soffa Industries provides semiconductor, LED and electronic assembly solutions for a range of industries. It generates most of its revenue from the Asia-Pacific region.Kulicke & Soffa announced itsQ1 2021results at the beginning of February. Revenue showed a hefty 85.6% YoY increase, climbing to $267.9 million. Net income jumped by 187.2% YoY and reached $53.7 million. Diluted EPS followed a similar pattern and was up by 196.6% to hit 86 cents. Cash and equivalents were $576.7 million at the end of the period.CEO Fusen Chen stated, “Demand has increased significantly in the December quarter driven by strength in the general semiconductor, LED and automotive markets.” The Company expects total sales revenue in Q2 2021 (ending April 3, 2021) to be approximately $300 million +/- $20 million.KLIC stock’s price-to-book (P/B) and P/S ratios are 4.27 and 4.69. Finding undervalued growth stocks in the chip space is becoming increasingly difficult. But I expect the company to create shareholder value for many more quarters. Any decline toward $45 would offer a better opportunity to buy into the KLIC share price. Further bullish headlines regarding the semiconductor space will likely provide further momentum for the stock.Microsoft (MSFT)Source: NYCStock / Shutterstock.com52-week range:$162.30 – $249.96YTD price change:Up about 12%Dividend yield:0.9%Our next company, Microsoft, does not immediately come to mind as a semiconductor stocks. On another note, co-founded Bill Gates has recentlyinvestedin “Luminous, a small start-up building an artificial intelligence chip.”Management announcedQ2 2021results at the end of January. Cash and equivalents at the end of period stood at $132 billion.Amy Hood, Microsoft CFO, cited “For FY21, with our strong performance in the first half of the fiscal year and our outlook for Q3, we expect to deliver another full year of double-digit revenue and operating income growth, as well as healthy operating margin expansion even after excluding the impact of the change in accounting estimate and COVID-related savings.”MSFT stock’sforward P/Eand P/S are 30.86 and 12.42. With this new initiative under its belt too, the company is likely to increase shareholder value throughout the rest of the year.Nvidia (NVDA)Source: Antonio Baccardi / Shutterstock.com52-week range:$257 – $614.90YTD price change:Up about 6%Dividend yield:0.1%With a market capitalization (cap) of about $343 billion, the Santa Clara, California-based Nvidia is one of the most important chip companies. Non-GAAP EPS was $3.10, up 64% YoY and 7% sequentially.Nvidia reports revenue in four segments:Data Center (Q4 revenue was a record $1.9 billion)Gaming (Q4 revenue was a record $2.5 billion)Professional Visualization (Q4 revenue was $307 million)Automotive (Q4 revenue was $145 million)In the past 12 months, NVDA stock is up about 116%. In the long-run, Nvidia’s fast-growing top and bottom lines will lead to new record-highs in the share price.Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (TSM)Source: Shutterstock52-week range:$47.72 – $142.20YTD price change:Up about 12%Dividend yield:1.4%Taiwan-based Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing is the world’s largest semiconductor foundry. Diluted EPS was $0.97 per ADR unit, increasing 23% YoY.Wendell Huang, VP and Chief Financial Officer, cited, “Moving into first quarter 2021, we expect our business to be supported by HPC-related demand, recovery in the automotive segment, and a milder smartphone seasonality than in recent years.”In the past 52 weeks, TSM stock is up close to 160%. Forward P/E and P/S ratios are 32.79 and 13.74, respectively. The company is expected to release Q1 results in the coming days. Potential investors might want to analyze the metrics and wait for a potential pull-back in the share price. A decline toward the $110 level would improve the margin of safety. The global chip shortage should mean strong demand for the company.Texas Instruments(TXN)Source: Katherine Welles / Shutterstock.com52-week range:$105.30 – $197.58YTD price change:Up about 19%Dividend yield:2.1%For our next stock, Texas Instruments, we go from Taiwan to Dallas, Texas. The company focuses on analog chips and embedded processors. With 14 manufacturing sites worldwide, the chip group provides 80,000 products for over 100,000 customers, which mostly come from the consumer electronics, automotive and industrial markets.TXNannouncedQ4 and full-year results in late January.Revenue was $4.08 billion, an increase of 22% YoY.Net income came at $1.69 billion, up 58% YoY.EPS of $1.80 also meant an increase of 61% YoY.Free cash flow during the quarter was $1.9 billion. Analysts concurred that it was a robust quarter for the group.CEO Rich Templeton commented, “Together, our dividends and stock repurchases reflect our continued commitment to return all free cash flow to our owners. TI’s first quarter outlook is for revenue in the range of $3.79 billion to $4.11 billion and earnings per share between $1.44 and $1.66.”In the past year, TXN shares returned over 85%. The stock’s forward P/E and P/S ratios are 30.03 and 12.71 respectively. Buy-and-hold investors could consider an investment around $180 or below. During April, the shares should be under the radar.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":327,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":349483759,"gmtCreate":1617631917771,"gmtModify":1704701141540,"author":{"id":"3547806760926035","authorId":"3547806760926035","name":"Phyllispoh","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":8,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3547806760926035","authorIdStr":"3547806760926035"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Zuckerburg to the moon $Facebook(FB)$","listText":"Zuckerburg to the moon $Facebook(FB)$","text":"Zuckerburg to the moon $Facebook(FB)$","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/349483759","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":502,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":354940796,"gmtCreate":1617121893515,"gmtModify":1704696207722,"author":{"id":"3547806760926035","authorId":"3547806760926035","name":"Phyllispoh","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":8,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3547806760926035","authorIdStr":"3547806760926035"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Someone finally disrupting the education system","listText":"Someone finally disrupting the education system","text":"Someone finally disrupting the education system","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/354940796","repostId":"1163996400","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1163996400","pubTimestamp":1617094880,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1163996400?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-03-30 17:01","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Coursera: The Education Disruptor Goes Public","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1163996400","media":"seekingalpha","summary":"SummaryThe company is growing rapidly as a result of secular trends as well as the Covid-19 pandemic","content":"
Summary

The company is growing rapidly as a result of secular trends as well as the Covid-19 pandemic.

It is operating in a huge addressable market that is likely to grow for the foreseeable future.

Coursera enjoys many competitive advantages, among them a large, existing user base, price-to-cost advantages, and the ability to personalize content as a result of its trove of data.

Given its scale, and competitive advantages, the company should win an outsized share of its market opportunity.

However, because the company has not turned a profit, there is a chance that its stock may be too volatile in the near term. Buying when the company turns a profit is the safer bet.

Coursera (COURS), the online learning platform founded in 2012 by former Stanford University computer science professors Daphne Koller and Andrew Ng, filed itsIPO prospectuswith the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). The Mountain View, California-based company offers individuals access to over 4,000 Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) from 200 educational institutions and corporations. The company also offers over two dozen degree programs at prices lower than what a learner would pay at a traditional, in-person institution. As the company grows its offering, it will be able to compete head-to-head with other “online program management” (OPM) providers, such as 2U(NASDAQ:TWOU), which is already publicly traded, and Noodle Partners.

Ng’sshareholder letter in the S-1articulated clearly just what the company is about:

“We believe that education is the source of human progress. In today’s economy in which the skills needed to succeed are rapidly evolving, education is becoming more important than ever. As automation and digital disruption are poised to replace unprecedented numbers of jobs worldwide, giving workers the opportunity to upskill and reskill will be crucial to raising global living standards and increasing social equity. Online education will play a critical role, enabling anyone, anywhere, to gain the valuable skills they need to earn a living in an increasingly digital economy.”

The filing lists Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs and Citigroup as underwriters. The number of shares and the price range of the proposed offering are yet to be determined.According to PitchBook data, Coursera’s most recent valuation in the private markets was $2.5 billion. To date, the company has raised $464 million in venture capital, most recently,$130 million in a Series F roundlast July. Coursera’s biggest institutional shareholders are New Enterprise Associates (18.3% of company stock), G Squared (15.9%) and Kleiner Perkins (9.2%).

Operating Results

The company earned $293 million in revenues for the fiscal year ended December 31, 2020, up 59% from 2019. Net losses widened by about $20 million year-on-year, reaching $66.8 million in 2020. Revenues shot up as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic’s effect on traditional education. In tandem with rising demand, operating costs associated with the company’s services rose, largely driven by the freemium content and marketing expenses. Coursera added over 12,000 new degree learners across the two years ended December 31, 2020 at an average acquisition cost of just below $2,000. The number of registered users rose by 65% year-on-year in 2020. Coursera’s accumulated deficit since its founding stood at $343.6 million as of December 31, 2020. The company does not expect to turn a profit in the foreseeable future.

The company’sCoursera for Campus, launched in late 2019to enable colleges to offer its library of MOOCs to their students, has been a key driver of recent revenue growth. At the start of the pandemic, Coursera made the program free to tertiary institutions until Sept. 30, 2020. Over 4,000 tertiary institutions from across the world signed up for the program, which, according to the company’s S-1 filing, makes it, “one of our fastest growing offerings”. As of December 31, 2020, over 130 tertiary institutions were paying for it.

At this point, it is hard to predict what the end of the pandemic would have on the company’s operating results.

The Strategy and Market Opportunity

Coursera is one of the most disruptive firms in the world. It has a flywheel approach to value creation, with significant price-to-cost advantages versus its competition. The company reported that about half of its new degree students in 2020 had been previously registered with Coursera and that its average student acquisition cost was less than $2,000. Its average student acquisition cost is lower than the industry standard. The edu-tech platform is able to efficiently acquire learners at scale because of the huge number of free, high-quality courses that it offers in partnership with top educational institutions and corporations; its ability to personalize content based on its wealth of data; the strength of word-of-mouth promotion by learners; the profitability of its affiliate paid marketing channel.

The platform offers a number of education tracks, for example:

Specializations: A learner can pay between $39 and $99 a month for job-specific content across over 500 categories.

MasterTrack Certificates: For a quarter to a year, a learner can earn a certificate issued by a university-issued certificate. Prices range from $2,000 to $6,000.

Bachelor’s or Master’s Degrees: Fees range from $9,000 to $45,000.

Coursera for Enterprise: Through this platform, businesses, educational institutions and governments can deploy content to their learners.

In response to the Covid-19 pandemic, Coursera partnered with over 330 government agencies across 30 U.S. states and cities and 70 countries as part of itsCoursera Workforce Recovery Initiative, which gave governments the chance to offer unemployed workers free access to thousands of business, data science, and technology courses from companies such as Amazon(NASDAQ:AMZN)and Google(NASDAQ:GOOG)(NASDAQ:GOOGL).

The company has 77 million registered learners, as well as over 2,000 businesses (including 25% of Fortune 500 companies) and 100 government agencies who paid for its enterprise offerings. The majority of its revenue (51%) was earned outside of the United States. Converting only a fraction of its 77 million registered users into paid users would change the economics of customer acquisition. The company’s present scale is a huge competitive advantage in the market.

A learner’s curriculum is designed to be “stackable”, which is to say that a learner can go through a domain in an incremental fashion. The company is able to leverage the huge volume of data it has accumulated from its over 220 million enrollments to personalize content. So, for example, Coursera’s Skills Graphs can suggest paths for job skills.

Coursera uses technology to drive down distribution costs, make content more affordable, extend access to less economically-endowed regions, help learners keep abreast of emerging skills, and grow its market opportunity. The Covid-19 pandemic has only accelerated secular trends towards the use of technology in education.

The size of the addressable market is massive and it’s easy to see why.An August 2020 study by the United Nationsdemonstrates the degree of disruption brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic: of the 1.6 billion students in 190 countries covered in the report, or 94% of the world’s students, were prevented from going to school because of Covid-19 pandemic related school closures.

In 2017, the World Bank indicated thatof the 200 million college students in the world, many do not have job-specific skills.

The Covid-19 pandemic and prior secular trends suggest that the future of education is in blended classrooms, job-specific education and continuous, lifelong education. Online learning platforms like Coursera will be the primary means through which educational content is delivered.

Globally, spending on higher education in 2019 was $2.2 trillion, according to HolonIQ. Spending on online degrees was $36 billion and is predicted to reach $74 billion by 2025.

With a huge, existing learner base; a strong brand; and the significant advantages detailed above, Coursera is likely to grab a significant amount of the market’s growth. Of thescenarios for the future of education, it seems that Coursera will continue to grow.

Conclusion

Coursera seems poised to meet the challenges of a changing education landscape. With its vast, existing user base, its flywheel model, its competitive advantages, and its existence in a huge and growing addressable market, the company is likely to do very well. Buying when the company turns a profit is the safer bet.Coursera (COURS), the online learning platform founded in 2012 by former Stanford University computer science professors Daphne Koller and Andrew Ng, filed itsIPO prospectuswith the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). The Mountain View, California-based company offers individuals access to over 4,000 Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) from 200 educational institutions and corporations. The company also offers over two dozen degree programs at prices lower than what a learner would pay at a traditional, in-person institution. As the company grows its offering, it will be able to compete head-to-head with other “online program management” (OPM) providers, such as 2U(NASDAQ:TWOU), which is already publicly traded, and Noodle Partners.Ng’sshareholder letter in the S-1articulated clearly just what the company is about:“We believe that education is the source of human progress. Online education will play a critical role, enabling anyone, anywhere, to gain the valuable skills they need to earn a living in an increasingly digital economy.”The filing lists Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs and Citigroup as underwriters. The number of shares and the price range of the proposed offering are yet to be determined.According to PitchBook data, Coursera’s most recent valuation in the private markets was $2.5 billion. To date, the company has raised $464 million in venture capital, most recently,$130 million in a Series F roundlast July. Coursera’s biggest institutional shareholders are New Enterprise Associates (18.3% of company stock), G Squared (15.9%) and Kleiner Perkins (9.2%).Operating ResultsThe company earned $293 million in revenues for the fiscal year ended December 31, 2020, up 59% from 2019. As of December 31, 2020, over 130 tertiary institutions were paying for it.At this point, it is hard to predict what the end of the pandemic would have on the company’s operating results. The Strategy and Market OpportunityCoursera is one of the most disruptive firms in the world. The platform offers a number of education tracks, for example:Specializations: A learner can pay between $39 and $99 a month for job-specific content across over 500 categories.MasterTrack Certificates: For a quarter to a year, a learner can earn a certificate issued by a university-issued certificate. Prices range from $2,000 to $6,000.Bachelor’s or Master’s Degrees: Fees range from $9,000 to $45,000.Coursera for Enterprise: Through this platform, businesses, educational institutions and governments can deploy content to their learners. In response to the Covid-19 pandemic, Coursera partnered with over 330 government agencies across 30 U.S. states and cities and 70 countries as part of itsCoursera Workforce Recovery Initiative, which gave governments the chance to offer unemployed workers free access to thousands of business, data science, and technology courses from companies such as Amazon(NASDAQ:AMZN)and Google(NASDAQ:GOOG)(NASDAQ:GOOGL).The company has 77 million registered learners, as well as over 2,000 businesses (including 25% of Fortune 500 companies) and 100 government agencies who paid for its enterprise offerings. The majority of its revenue (51%) was earned outside of the United States. Converting only a fraction of its 77 million registered users into paid users would change the economics of customer acquisition. The company’s present scale is a huge competitive advantage in the market.A learner’s curriculum is designed to be “stackable”, which is to say that a learner can go through a domain in an incremental fashion. The company is able to leverage the huge volume of data it has accumulated from its over 220 million enrollments to personalize content. So, for example, Coursera’s Skills Graphs can suggest paths for job skills.Coursera uses technology to drive down distribution costs, make content more affordable, extend access to less economically-endowed regions, help learners keep abreast of emerging skills, and grow its market opportunity. Online learning platforms like Coursera will be the primary means through which educational content is delivered.Globally, spending on higher education in 2019 was $2.2 trillion, according to HolonIQ. Spending on online degrees was $36 billion and is predicted to reach $74 billion by 2025.With a huge, existing learner base; a strong brand; and the significant advantages detailed above, Coursera is likely to grab a significant amount of the market’s growth. Of thescenarios for the future of education, it seems that Coursera will continue to grow.ConclusionCoursera seems poised to meet the challenges of a changing education landscape. With its vast, existing user base, its flywheel model, its competitive advantages, and its existence in a huge and growing addressable market, the company is likely to do very well. The company’s value proposition is compelling. However, long run success does not equate to a good investment in the short run. An unprofitable company like Coursera is likely to be very volatile on the markets until it reaches profitability. It is better to wait for Coursera to turn a profit before investing in the company.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":357,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":358057312,"gmtCreate":1616644241836,"gmtModify":1704796839607,"author":{"id":"3547806760926035","authorId":"3547806760926035","name":"Phyllispoh","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":8,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3547806760926035","authorIdStr":"3547806760926035"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Elon what are you doing??","listText":"Elon what are you doing??","text":"Elon what are you doing??","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/925b6904f14f4d6e6575b94c651221b3","width":"1125","height":"3063"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/358057312","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":376,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":359662969,"gmtCreate":1616394102351,"gmtModify":1704793439030,"author":{"id":"3547806760926035","authorId":"3547806760926035","name":"Phyllispoh","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":8,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3547806760926035","authorIdStr":"3547806760926035"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Don’t you know, pump it up","listText":"Don’t you know, pump it up","text":"Don’t you know, pump it up","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/da98b001b3757f986b8f91df9e0b6702","width":"1125","height":"2629"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/359662969","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":319,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":327794932,"gmtCreate":1616123250926,"gmtModify":1704791242278,"author":{"id":"3547806760926035","authorId":"3547806760926035","name":"Phyllispoh","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":8,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3547806760926035","authorIdStr":"3547806760926035"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"I’m mad at Disney Disney, they tricked me tricked me","listText":"I’m mad at Disney Disney, they tricked me tricked me","text":"I’m mad at Disney Disney, they tricked me tricked me","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/20831c4e429631f1f02ec6ed446b38b2","width":"1125","height":"2802"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/327794932","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":438,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":324519982,"gmtCreate":1616005863446,"gmtModify":1704789663617,"author":{"id":"3547806760926035","authorId":"3547806760926035","name":"Phyllispoh","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":8,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3547806760926035","authorIdStr":"3547806760926035"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Is this a good buy??","listText":"Is this a good buy??","text":"Is this a good buy??","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/324519982","repostId":"1179979737","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1179979737","pubTimestamp":1615996440,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1179979737?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-03-17 23:54","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Olo opens for trading at $31.82 up 27% from IPO price","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1179979737","media":"marketwatch","summary":"(March 17) Olo opens for trading at $31.82 up 27% from IPO price.Olo Inc., which makes online-orderi","content":"
(March 17) Olo opens for trading at $31.82 up 27% from IPO price.

Olo Inc., which makes online-ordering technology for restaurants, is set to go public Wednesday as it seeks to benefit from an on-demand boom that was helped further along by the coronavirus pandemic.

The New York-based company priced its initial public offering at $25 a share late Tuesday, much higher than its original target of $16 to $18 a share, which it raised to $20 to $22 a share Monday. over the long run, therefore imitating the picks that they are collectively bullish on can be a profitable strategy for retail investors. With billions of dollars in assets, smart money investors have to conduct complex analyses, spend many resources and use tools that are not always available for the general crowd. This doesn't mean that they don't have occasional colossal losses; they do (like Melvin Capital's recent GameStop losses). However, it is still a good idea to keep an eye on hedge fund activity. With this in mind, as the current round of 13F filings has just ended, let’s examine the smart money sentiment towards Paypal Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:PYPL).
\n
Is PYPL stock a buy or sell? Paypal Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:PYPL) was in 147 hedge funds' portfolios at the end of the fourth quarter of 2020. The all time high for this statistic is 150. PYPL has seen a decrease in hedge fund sentiment in recent months. There were 150 hedge funds in our database with PYPL holdings at the end of September. Our calculations also showed that PYPL ranked 10th among the 30 most popular stocks among hedge funds (click for Q4 rankings).
\n
Why do we pay any attention at all to hedge fund sentiment? Our research has shown that a select group of hedge fund holdings outperformed the S&P 500 ETFs by 124 percentage points since March 2017 (see the details here). We were also able to identify in advance a select group of hedge fund holdings that'll significantly underperform the market. We have been tracking and sharing the list of these stocks since February 2017 and they lost 13% through November 17th. That's why we believe hedge fund sentiment is an extremely useful indicator that investors should pay attention to.
\n
At Insider Monkey we leave no stone unturned when looking for the next great investment idea. For example, lithium mining is one of the fastest growing industries right now, so we are checking out stock pitches like this emerging lithium stock. We go through lists like the 10 best hydrogen fuel cell stocks to pick the next Tesla that will deliver a 10x return. Even though we recommend positions in only a tiny fraction of the companies we analyze, we check out as many stocks as we can. We read hedge fund investor letters and listen to stock pitches at hedge fund conferences. You can subscribe to our free daily newsletter on our homepage (or at the end of this article). Keeping this in mind we're going to review the recent hedge fund action surrounding Paypal Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:PYPL).
\n
Do Hedge Funds Think PYPL Is A Good Stock To Buy Now?
\n
Heading into the first quarter of 2021, a total of 147 of the hedge funds tracked by Insider Monkey were bullish on this stock, a change of -2% from the third quarter of 2020. The graph below displays the number of hedge funds with bullish position in PYPL over the last 22 quarters. So, let's review which hedge funds were among the top holders of the stock and which hedge funds were making big moves.
\n

\n
Among these funds, Fundsmith LLP held the most valuable stake in Paypal Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:PYPL), which was worth $2888.6 million at the end of the fourth quarter. On the second spot was Fisher Asset Management which amassed $2501.4 million worth of shares. Coatue Management, SB Management, and Egerton Capital Limited were also very fond of the stock, becoming one of the largest hedge fund holders of the company. In terms of the portfolio weights assigned to each position Portland Hill Asset Management allocated the biggest weight to Paypal Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:PYPL), around 12.98% of its 13F portfolio. Aravt Global is also relatively very bullish on the stock, designating 12.6 percent of its 13F equity portfolio to PYPL.
\n
Seeing as Paypal Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:PYPL) has faced falling interest from the aggregate hedge fund industry, it's safe to say that there is a sect of hedgies that elected to cut their entire stakes by the end of the fourth quarter. Interestingly, Lone Pine Capital cut the largest investment of all the hedgies monitored by Insider Monkey, worth an estimated $1182.4 million in stock, and Gabriel Plotkin's Melvin Capital Management was right behind this move, as the fund cut about $137.9 million worth. These transactions are important to note, as total hedge fund interest dropped by 3 funds by the end of the fourth quarter.
\n
Let's check out hedge fund activity in other stocks similar to Paypal Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:PYPL). With this in mind, as the current round of 13F filings has just ended, let’s examine the smart money sentiment towards Paypal Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:PYPL).\nIs PYPL stock a buy or sell? Paypal Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:PYPL) was in 147 hedge funds' portfolios at the end of the fourth quarter of 2020. The all time high for this statistic is 150. PYPL has seen a decrease in hedge fund sentiment in recent months. There were 150 hedge funds in our database with PYPL holdings at the end of September. Our calculations also showed that PYPL ranked 10th among the 30 most popular stocks among hedge funds (click for Q4 rankings).\nWhy do we pay any attention at all to hedge fund sentiment? Our research has shown that a select group of hedge fund holdings outperformed the S&P 500 ETFs by 124 percentage points since March 2017 (see the details here). We were also able to identify in advance a select group of hedge fund holdings that'll significantly underperform the market. We have been tracking and sharing the list of these stocks since February 2017 and they lost 13% through November 17th. That's why we believe hedge fund sentiment is an extremely useful indicator that investors should pay attention to.\nAt Insider Monkey we leave no stone unturned when looking for the next great investment idea. Keeping this in mind we're going to review the recent hedge fund action surrounding Paypal Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:PYPL).\nDo Hedge Funds Think PYPL Is A Good Stock To Buy Now?\nHeading into the first quarter of 2021, a total of 147 of the hedge funds tracked by Insider Monkey were bullish on this stock, a change of -2% from the third quarter of 2020. The graph below displays the number of hedge funds with bullish position in PYPL over the last 22 quarters. So, let's review which hedge funds were among the top holders of the stock and which hedge funds were making big moves.\n\nAmong these funds, Fundsmith LLP held the most valuable stake in Paypal Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:PYPL), which was worth $2888.6 million at the end of the fourth quarter. Aravt Global is also relatively very bullish on the stock, designating 12.6 percent of its 13F equity portfolio to PYPL.\nSeeing as Paypal Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:PYPL) has faced falling interest from the aggregate hedge fund industry, it's safe to say that there is a sect of hedgies that elected to cut their entire stakes by the end of the fourth quarter. These transactions are important to note, as total hedge fund interest dropped by 3 funds by the end of the fourth quarter.\nLet's check out hedge fund activity in other stocks similar to Paypal Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:PYPL). It's expensive stocks, and some of those happen to be in the tech bucket. There's also expensive stocks in biotech, and there's expensive stocks even in nontech groups. And what's really changed in the last two or three months is that the bond market has woken up to the idea that actually the back end is going to move out, and so the narrative three months ago was that 'rates can't go up, they won't go up, the Fed won't let it happen.' But here we are, 1.5%, 1.6% [for the 10-year]. And so now the equity market is accepting this idea that it was inevitable. And we're adjusting. So I don't think this is the end of the bull market or the end of tech stocks per se, but it was an adjustment that was very necessary.\"\nDavid Kostin, chief U.S. equity strategist at Goldman Sachs, said tech is still a longer-term bet.\n\"The issue really is what's happening on the margin. We have huge fiscal stimulus coming, likely to be signed in the next day or so. We're likely to have very significant improvement in the vaccination process, more than 2 million people a day. So those things are about nearer-term activity, and that really does benefit an improvement of business fundamentals for some of the near-term, more cyclical-related stocks in the recovery trade, if you will. So if you want to think about longer term, sure, technology, secular growth, those are definitely tapping into some of the evolutions in what's happening in the economy, but near term, tactically it's likely to be cyclical.\"\nJim Grant, founder and editor of Grant's Interest Rate Observer, broke down the bond market.\n\"We have been in a 40-year bull market in bonds. Almost no one living on Wall Street today has any recollection of interest rates rising. We are predisposed to assume that rates go down, that seems natural. ... They are remarkably low when adjusted for inflation. As measured since 1962, as a saver, you'd get over 2.5 almost percentage points of real inflation-adjusted yield by owning the 10-year Treasury. Today you get exactly no real interest. ... So the value proposition for the 10-year Treasury, to me, is absolutely barren. There's nothing to be said as an investment for them.\"\nGabriela Santos, global market strategist at JPMorgan Asset Management, said it all comes back to earnings.\n\"I think one of the points we make is we're coming into this year with a much better outlook but with stretched valuations. So returns this year are really going to come from the change in earnings, and it's really the cyclical parts of the market that will see the biggest delta in earnings this year versus last year. Those are the kind of sectors that can absorb rising yields, that can really tap into this improvement in the economy. So just an example, financials will see a 40 percentage-point change in earnings, consumer discretionary 70 percentage points. If we look at health care, only 2 percentage points. Tech only 10%. So that's the reason why these rising bond yields related to rising growth benefits these more cyclical parts of the market.\"","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":48,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0}],"hots":[{"id":329103471,"gmtCreate":1615213570693,"gmtModify":1704779641223,"author":{"id":"3547806760926035","authorId":"3547806760926035","name":"Phyllispoh","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":8,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3547806760926035","idStr":"3547806760926035"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"This is a good perspective!!!","listText":"This is a good perspective!!!","text":"This is a good perspective!!!","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":5,"commentSize":4,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/329103471","repostId":"1169408303","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1169408303","pubTimestamp":1615212534,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1169408303?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-03-08 22:08","market":"us","language":"en","title":"AMC Entertainment stock surges after price target doubled at Wedbush","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1169408303","media":"MarketWatch","summary":"Analyst Michael Pachter kept rating at neutral, as increasing optimism over post-pandemic environmen","content":"
Analyst Michael Pachter kept rating at neutral, as increasing optimism over post-pandemic environment offset by concerns over debt burden
\n
Shares of AMC Entertainment Holdings Inc. surged Monday, as the “meme” stock’s bounce from last month’s plunge continued, after Wedbush analyst Michael Pachter doubled his price target ahead of the company’s earnings report, citing an increasing optimism over the post-pandemic environment.
\n
Pachter raised his target for the stock to $5.00 from $2.50, but that target was 38% below Friday’s closing price of $8.05. He reiterated the neutral rating he’s had on AMC since March 2020, however, saying it was “tough to get positive here, despite rising industry optimism.”
\n
The movie theater chain’s stock rallied 5.5% in premarket trading. The stock edged up 0.5% last week, to post a third straight weekly gain. It hassoared 44.0% during that streak, which followed a two-week, 57.8% dive.
\n
The stock had rocketed 525.5% in January, including a 301.2% jump to a more-than two-year closing high of $19.90 on Jan. 27,as part of the trading frenzy tracked to Reddit’s WallStreetBets forum, which targeted heavily shorted stocks.
\n
Wedbush’s Pachter said he thinks AMC has taken the right reopening precautions, such as installing high-quality air filtration systems, implementing enhanced cleaning protocols and reducing seating to allow for social distancing. He said that has allowed the company to boost attendance over the past several months, despite many of its markets being closed because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
\n
In addition, Pachter said AMC has been able to raise enough liquidity through debt and equity offerings to last through midsummer without a big box office boost.
\n
“However, we think AMC may take years before it is able to revisit its prior growth strategy as it repays its growing mountain of debt,” Pachter wrote in a note to clients.
\n
AMC is scheduled to report fourth-quarter results after Wednesday’s closing bell. He reiterated the neutral rating he’s had on AMC since March 2020, however, saying it was “tough to get positive here, despite rising industry optimism.”\nThe movie theater chain’s stock rallied 5.5% in premarket trading. The stock edged up 0.5% last week, to post a third straight weekly gain. It hassoared 44.0% during that streak, which followed a two-week, 57.8% dive.\nThe stock had rocketed 525.5% in January, including a 301.2% jump to a more-than two-year closing high of $19.90 on Jan. 27,as part of the trading frenzy tracked to Reddit’s WallStreetBets forum, which targeted heavily shorted stocks.\nWedbush’s Pachter said he thinks AMC has taken the right reopening precautions, such as installing high-quality air filtration systems, implementing enhanced cleaning protocols and reducing seating to allow for social distancing. He said that has allowed the company to boost attendance over the past several months, despite many of its markets being closed because of the COVID-19 pandemic.\nIn addition, Pachter said AMC has been able to raise enough liquidity through debt and equity offerings to last through midsummer without a big box office boost.\n“However, we think AMC may take years before it is able to revisit its prior growth strategy as it repays its growing mountain of debt,” Pachter wrote in a note to clients.\nAMC is scheduled to report fourth-quarter results after Wednesday’s closing bell. Analysts surveyed by FactSet expect the company to swing to a per-share loss of $3.36 from earnings of 35 cents a share in the year-ago period, while revenue is expected to drop 90% to $142.3 million.\nAlthough the FactSet consensus for per-share losses has narrowed from $3.70 at the end of February, the revenue projection has declined from $155.1 million.\nOf the 8 analysts surveyed by FactSet, half have the equivalent of neutral ratings while the other half has the equivalent of sell ratings. This has put the market capitalization at $48.7 billion. Although, as has been the case with other hot tech operators lately, PLTR stock has come under pressure. The price has gone from a high of $45 to $26.70.
\n
Founded in 2003, Palantir has become one of the top players in developing sophisticated AI (Artificial Intelligence) and ML (Machine Learning) systems. Last year, the company posted $1.1 billion in revenues, up about 47% on a year-over- year basis.
\n
When the company started, the focus was on government customers. Often the applications were to help with confidential activities like hunting down terrorists. There was even speculation that Palantir helped to locate Osama bin Laden.
\n
But over the past decade, Palantir has leveraged its technologies into commercial markets and has been able to snag customers like BP(NYSE:BP),Rio Tinto(NYSE:RIO) and PG&E(NYSE:PCG). This expansion of the business has increased the market potential to a staggering $119 billion.
\n
OK then, what now for PLTR stock? With the recent weakness, is there an opportunity here? Well, I actually think investors should be patient on this. There are some nagging issues with the company.
\n
Let’s take a look.
\n
The Growth Story
\n
It’s important to note that – during the history of Palantir – the growth has been choppy and inconsistent. And this should not be a surprise. The company’s contracts are large and usually last several years. As a result, the sale cycle can be tough and prolonged.
\n
This appears to have been evident in the latest quarter, as the growth ramp is starting to decelerated. Based on the full-year forecast, the revenues are expected to increase about 30%.
\n
Granted, this may be a conservative forecast. But then again, it is still does look like there will some headwinds this year.
\n
Valuation of PLTR Stock
\n
Yes, when it comes to stocks nowadays, valuation has not necessarily been an issue. But this sentiment is starting to change. If a company is unable to keep up the growth ramp, there could be more selling. As for PLTR stock, the multiple is still at a hefty 24 times sales.
\n
Something else: There has been notable insider selling at the company. When the IPO lock-up expired, the chief operating officer, Shyam Sankar, sold 757,510 shares at prices that ranged from $24.59 to $29. There was also the unloading of 2.7 million shares from three other executives. All in all, this is an indication that it could be tough for Palantir meet Wall Street expectations.
\n
The Commercial Business
\n
Palantir has two major software platforms. First, there is Gotham, which is focused on the needs of defense and intelligence agencies. The technology is essentially about “finding the needle in the haystack” by analyzing enormous amounts of data.
\n
Next, Palantir has the Foundry platform. And yes, it is primarily for commercial customers. The technology has been effective in helping to solve problems across a wide-array of industries like banking, pharmaceuticals, retail, insurance, energy and so on.
\n
Now the government business has done extremely well. Indeed, revenue from government customers were reported at $132 million, which is an 85% increase from last quarter.
\n
But the commercial side is another story. The revenues were up a mere 4% in the quarter $132 million.
\n
Why is this so? First of all, the Foundry technology is less mature. But the commercial category is also much more competitive. Palantir must fight against top companies like C3Ai(NYSE:AI). And with the continued surge in venture funding in Silicon Valley, there are startups emerging to capitalize on the AI opportunity.
\n
It could get even tougher for Palantir to find new business and keep up the growth.
","source":"lsy1606302653667","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
3 Reasons To Be Cautious About Palantir Right Now
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n3 Reasons To Be Cautious About Palantir Right Now\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-03-16 16:06 GMT+8 InvestorPlace\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
The commercial business is becoming an issue for PLTR stock\nSince the its initial public offering (IPO) in late September, the shares of Palantir Technologies (NYSE:PLTR) have logged impressive gains,...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{"PLTR":"Palantir Technologies Inc."},"source_url":"https://investorplace.com/2021/03/pltr-stock-3-reasons-to-be-cautious-about-palantir-right-now/","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"1124564578","content_text":"The commercial business is becoming an issue for PLTR stock\nSince the its initial public offering (IPO) in late September, the shares of Palantir Technologies (NYSE:PLTR) have logged impressive gains, up about 190%. And with the continued surge in venture funding in Silicon Valley, there are startups emerging to capitalize on the AI opportunity.\nIt could get even tougher for Palantir to find new business and keep up the growth.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":197,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":322793937,"gmtCreate":1615824652529,"gmtModify":1704787207767,"author":{"id":"3547806760926035","authorId":"3547806760926035","name":"Phyllispoh","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":8,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3547806760926035","idStr":"3547806760926035"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$SOS Limited(SOS)$22% increase..... ??","listText":"$SOS Limited(SOS)$22% increase..... ??","text":"$SOS Limited(SOS)$22% increase..... ??","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/322793937","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":693,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":362085194,"gmtCreate":1614574219918,"gmtModify":1704772584269,"author":{"id":"3547806760926035","authorId":"3547806760926035","name":"Phyllispoh","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":8,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3547806760926035","idStr":"3547806760926035"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Hmmmmmmm","listText":"Hmmmmmmm","text":"Hmmmmmmm","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/362085194","repostId":"2114358303","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":48,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":341851547,"gmtCreate":1617804286089,"gmtModify":1704703372187,"author":{"id":"3547806760926035","authorId":"3547806760926035","name":"Phyllispoh","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":8,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3547806760926035","idStr":"3547806760926035"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Niceeeeedaq","listText":"Niceeeeedaq","text":"Niceeeeedaq","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/341851547","repostId":"2125740971","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2125740971","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Dow Jones publishes the world’s most trusted business news and financial information in a variety of media.","home_visible":0,"media_name":"Dow Jones","id":"106","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/150f88aa4d182df19190059f4a365e99"},"pubTimestamp":1617803580,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2125740971?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-04-07 21:53","market":"hk","language":"en","title":"Nasdaq turns briefly positive","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2125740971","media":"Dow Jones","summary":"MW Nasdaq turns briefly positive \n \n $(END)$ Dow Jones Newswires April 07, 2021 09:53 ET (13:53 ","content":"
MW Nasdaq turns briefly positive

\n \n

$(END)$ Dow Jones Newswires

April 07, 2021 09:53 ET (13:53 GMT)

Copyright (c) 2021 Dow Jones & Company, Inc.
","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; Buying when the company turns a profit is the safer bet.

As of December 31, 2020, over 130 tertiary institutions were paying for it.At this point, it is hard to predict what the end of the pandemic would have on the company’s operating results. The Strategy and Market OpportunityCoursera is one of the most disruptive firms in the world. It is better to wait for Coursera to turn a profit before investing in the company.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":357,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":358057312,"gmtCreate":1616644241836,"gmtModify":1704796839607,"author":{"id":"3547806760926035","authorId":"3547806760926035","name":"Phyllispoh","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":8,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3547806760926035","idStr":"3547806760926035"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Elon Tool","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1179892426","media":"Bloomberg","summary":"Company shows personalized ads in App Store, Stocks, News apps\nComplaint comes as Apple seeks to lim","content":"
\n
Company shows personalized ads in App Store, Stocks, News apps
\n
Complaint comes as Apple seeks to limit third-party tracking
\n
\n
Apple Inc.’s advertising tool used to monetize some of its own apps and services is the target of a new complaint in France.
\n
France Digitale, a lobby group representing startups and venture capital firms, filed the complaint on Tuesday, saying that Apple’s own advertising system doesn’t seek a user’s consent for receiving targeted ads. The complaint focuses on an Apple feature called Personalized Advertising that shows ads in the App Store, Apple News, and the Stocks app, based on a user’s data.
\n
The complaint comes as Apple is preparing to release an iPhone and iPad software update that limits how much data third-party advertising systems, such as those fromFacebook Inc., can gather about users. Unlike that feature, Apple’s personalized advertising system is enabled by default. Users are “insufficiently informed about the use and the processing of its personal data,” the association wrote in the complaint to the French regulator CNIL, which was obtained by Bloomberg News.
\n
“Apple keeps the right to choose who is a “partner” and who is a “third party” in an arbitrary manner, a quality which may change over time, without the user being informed of such a change,” France Digitale wrote in its complaint, claiming the company is seeking to use data it collects and uses.
\n
The Apple feature is different from the App Tracking Transparency feature that has irked Facebook and others, but France Digitale alleges that Apple still has a leg up over third-parties on iPhone app-based advertising.
\n
“The allegations in the complaint are patently false and will be seen for what they are, a poor attempt by those who track users to distract from their own actions and mislead regulators andpolicymakers,” Apple said in a statement. “Transparency and control for the user are fundamental pillars of our privacy philosophy, which is why we’ve made App Tracking Transparency equally applicable to all developers including Apple. Privacy is built into the ads we sell on our platform with no tracking.”
\n
Apple also said its advertising system does not track users across apps, the practice that App Tracking Transparency is designed to limit.
\n
“When users have Personalized Ads on, we target ads by grouping together users who share similar characteristics such as apps downloaded, age, country or city of residence, and gender into segments, so that a given campaign or set of campaigns can’t identify a given user,” according to a recent letter from Jane Horvath, Apple’s head of privacy.
\n
France Digitale’s move comes after a group of French online advertisers filed a complaint with the country’s competition authority, asking it to halt Apple’s changes to how iPhone users’ data is collected. The group of four advertising lobbies said the changes violated European Union rules on user consent, saying Apple can still deliver personalized advertising via a default setting, holding itself to a different standard.
\n
The French watchdog’s ruling on the advertisers complaint is expected shortly and could potentially require changes in Apple’s software update plans for users in the country. The U.K.’s competition authority last week said it opened a probe into Apple after complaints that its terms and conditions for app developers were anti-competition and unfair. The complaint focuses on an Apple feature called Personalized Advertising that shows ads in the App Store, Apple News, and the Stocks app, based on a user’s data.\nThe complaint comes as Apple is preparing to release an iPhone and iPad software update that limits how much data third-party advertising systems, such as those fromFacebook Inc., can gather about users. Unlike that feature, Apple’s personalized advertising system is enabled by default. Users are “insufficiently informed about the use and the processing of its personal data,” the association wrote in the complaint to the French regulator CNIL, which was obtained by Bloomberg News.\n“Apple keeps the right to choose who is a “partner” and who is a “third party” in an arbitrary manner, a quality which may change over time, without the user being informed of such a change,” France Digitale wrote in its complaint, claiming the company is seeking to use data it collects and uses.\nThe Apple feature is different from the App Tracking Transparency feature that has irked Facebook and others, but France Digitale alleges that Apple still has a leg up over third-parties on iPhone app-based advertising.\n“The allegations in the complaint are patently false and will be seen for what they are, a poor attempt by those who track users to distract from their own actions and mislead regulators andpolicymakers,” Apple said in a statement. “Transparency and control for the user are fundamental pillars of our privacy philosophy, which is why we’ve made App Tracking Transparency equally applicable to all developers including Apple. Privacy is built into the ads we sell on our platform with no tracking.”\nApple also said its advertising system does not track users across apps, the practice that App Tracking Transparency is designed to limit.\n“When users have Personalized Ads on, we target ads by grouping together users who share similar characteristics such as apps downloaded, age, country or city of residence, and gender into segments, so that a given campaign or set of campaigns can’t identify a given user,” according to a recent letter from Jane Horvath, Apple’s head of privacy.\nFrance Digitale’s move comes after a group of French online advertisers filed a complaint with the country’s competition authority, asking it to halt Apple’s changes to how iPhone users’ data is collected. The group of four advertising lobbies said the changes violated European Union rules on user consent, saying Apple can still deliver personalized advertising via a default setting, holding itself to a different standard.\nThe French watchdog’s ruling on the advertisers complaint is expected shortly and could potentially require changes in Apple’s software update plans for users in the country. The U.K.’s competition authority last week said it opened a probe into Apple after complaints that its terms and conditions for app developers were anti-competition and unfair. The CMA said it would review it Apple has a dominant position in the distribution of apps on its devices in the U.K..\n“All our startups are regularly controlled by CNIL. It is totally abnormal that this world giant is not on the same level playing field” for privacy, Nicolas Brien, who heads France Digitale, said in an interview.\nThe French complaint follows the November push by Noyb against Apple. The group, founded by privacy activist Max Schrems, filed acomplaintto German and Spanish privacy watchdogs, saying Apple unlawfully installed a service on its devices that helps it and apps track users’ behavior.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":77,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":366871106,"gmtCreate":1614451767205,"gmtModify":1704771855533,"author":{"id":"3547806760926035","authorId":"3547806760926035","name":"Phyllispoh","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":8,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"authorIdStr":"3547806760926035","idStr":"3547806760926035"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Interesting....","listText":"Interesting....","text":"Interesting....","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":2,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/366871106","repostId":"1103930774","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1103930774","pubTimestamp":1614334872,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1103930774?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-02-26 18:21","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Why QuantumScape Stock Rose Then Fell Thursday","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1103930774","media":"Motley Fool ","summary":"The CEO of the solid-state EV battery maker that has garnered much investor interest gave an intervi","content":"
The CEO of the solid-state EV battery maker that has garnered much investor interest gave an interview today.
\n
What happened
\n
The stock of aspiring solid-state battery technology company QuantumScape (NYSE:QS) has certainly seen ups and downs.
