A highly anticipated direct listing for the video game company Roblox is also on deck.

On Wednesday, the Labor Department will release its monthly Consumer Price Index (CPI), which tracks changes in prices for consumers across a broad basket of goods and services. Consensus economists anticipate that the CPI accelerated to see a 0.4% month-over-month increase in February, up from the 0.3% monthly rise in January, according to Bloomberg-compiled data.

Over last year, the CPI likely rose by 1.7%, picking up from the 1.4% rise in January. But excluding more volatile food and energy prices, the CPI is expected to have risen 1.4% year-over-year to match its January increase, since a jump in energy prices during the harsh winter weather last month likely contributed much of the gain.

Still, the possibility of an upside surprise in consumer prices gains has left investors jittery, with many market participants bracing for inflationary pressures to pick up rapidly later this year as more businesses reopen and many consumers start to release their pent-up savings during the pandemic.

\"If our forecast is correct, February would mark the beginning of a reversal of COVID-induced relative price changes. That would imply goods prices might decline but service prices might increase in coming months, as consumer demand shifts back to services requiring personal contact,\" Nomura chief economist Lewis Alexander wrote in a note Friday.

\"We expect relative price changes between goods and services to exert modest inflationary pressure going forward,\" he added. \"However, the persistent softness of rent inflation should limit the degree of acceleration in core inflation for some time, with the exception of an expected jump in year-on-year changes due to base effects.\"

Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell holds a press conference following a two day Federal Open Market Committee policy meeting in Washington, U.S., January 30, 2019. REUTERS/Leah Millis TPX IMAGES OF THE DAYLeah Millis / Reuters

Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell has reiterated repeatedly that he believes any impending rise in inflation this year will be \"transitory,\" resulting as the year-over-year data laps 2020's highly depressed inflationary prints. For years preceding the pandemic, inflation had held well below the Fed's 2% target, as measured by core personal consumption expenditures (PCE). The Fed has signaled the economy remains \"well below\" its targets, suggesting it would not change its policy stance or work to stave off the first signs of rising inflation.

But investors' fears that the Fed may be under appreciating a possible surge in inflation has begun to mount in recent weeks. Those concerns have only grown in amplitude as Congress passes additional stimulus to consumers, and as the Federal Reserve keeps its foot on the gas pedal with ultra-accommodative monetary policy comprising near-zero interest rates and a massive asset purchase program. The benchmark 10-year Treasury yield surged to a one-year high of about 1.6%, jumping by more than 50 basis points from levels a month earlier, as investors priced in the possibility that the Fed may need to tighten policy sooner than it has telegraphed as of late.

\"It is the inflation profile once reopening begins in earnest that should be of most interest,\" RBC Capital Markets economists wrote in a note Friday. \"The reality is that we are likely still a few months away from a significant supply/demand imbalance that is likely to take prices much higher.\"

\"Our baseline is for inflation to easily print with a 3-handle in 2Q and for the balance of 2021 thereafter,\" he added.

Roblox hits the public markets

Meanwhile, the video game company Roblox is set to make its public debut this week, in one of the latest high-profile, public facing companies to hit the public markets.

Roblox's direct listing is set to take place on the New York Stock Exchange on Wednesday under the ticker symbol \"RBLX.\" The move comes after the company delayed its public offering late last year amid a wave of exuberance in markets following Airbnb's (ABNB) and DoorDash's (DASH) IPOs.

By going public via a direct listing, Roblox will have existing stakeholders sell shares directly to public investors, rather than issuing new shares and conducting a fresh capital raise in the process as is the case in a traditional initial public offering. A highly anticipated direct listing for the video game company Roblox is also on deck.On Wednesday, the Labor Department will release its monthly Consumer Price Index (CPI), which tracks changes in prices for consumers across a broad basket of goods and services. Consensus economists anticipate that the CPI accelerated to see a 0.4% month-over-month increase in February, up from the 0.3% monthly rise in January, according to Bloomberg-compiled data.Over last year, the CPI likely rose by 1.7%, picking up from the 1.4% rise in January. But excluding more volatile food and energy prices, the CPI is expected to have risen 1.4% year-over-year to match its January increase, since a jump in energy prices during the harsh winter weather last month likely contributed much of the gain.Still, the possibility of an upside surprise in consumer prices gains has left investors jittery, with many market participants bracing for inflationary pressures to pick up rapidly later this year as more businesses reopen and many consumers start to release their pent-up savings during the pandemic.\"If our forecast is correct, February would mark the beginning of a reversal of COVID-induced relative price changes. That would imply goods prices might decline but service prices might increase in coming months, as consumer demand shifts back to services requiring personal contact,\" Nomura chief economist Lewis Alexander wrote in a note Friday.\"We expect relative price changes between goods and services to exert modest inflationary pressure going forward,\" he added. \"However, the persistent softness of rent inflation should limit the degree of acceleration in core inflation for some time, with the exception of an expected jump in year-on-year changes due to base effects.\"Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell holds a press conference following a two day Federal Open Market Committee policy meeting in Washington, U.S., January 30, 2019. REUTERS/Leah Millis TPX IMAGES OF THE DAYLeah Millis / ReutersFederal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell has reiterated repeatedly that he believes any impending rise in inflation this year will be \"transitory,\" resulting as the year-over-year data laps 2020's highly depressed inflationary prints. The benchmark 10-year Treasury yield surged to a one-year high of about 1.6%, jumping by more than 50 basis points from levels a month earlier, as investors priced in the possibility that the Fed may need to tighten policy sooner than it has telegraphed as of late.\"It is the inflation profile once reopening begins in earnest that should be of most interest,\" RBC Capital Markets economists wrote in a note Friday. \"The reality is that we are likely still a few months away from a significant supply/demand imbalance that is likely to take prices much higher.\"\"Our baseline is for inflation to easily print with a 3-handle in 2Q and for the balance of 2021 thereafter,\" he added.Roblox hits the public marketsMeanwhile, the video game company Roblox is set to make its public debut this week, in one of the latest high-profile, public facing companies to hit the public markets.Roblox's direct listing is set to take place on the New York Stock Exchange on Wednesday under the ticker symbol \"RBLX.\" The move comes after the company delayed its public offering late last year amid a wave of exuberance in markets following Airbnb's (ABNB) and DoorDash's (DASH) IPOs.By going public via a direct listing, Roblox will have existing stakeholders sell shares directly to public investors, rather than issuing new shares and conducting a fresh capital raise in the process as is the case in a traditional initial public offering. Companies including Spotify (SPOT) and Slack (WORK) also went public in recent years via direct listings, eschewing the typical IPO.Roblox was last valued in the private market at $4 billion, following a $150 million funding round led by the venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz in February last year.Roblox daily active users have accelerated over the past couple years, and especially so during the pandemic with so many people stuck indoors and seeking out entertainment. The stock closed at a record just above $883 on January 26 and has tumbled since. It fell low as $619 Tuesday, the first time Tesla shares have fallen below $700 since December 31.
\n
The steep decline has taken Tesla shares below their level when the company entered the S&P 500 on December 21. It also knocked CEO Elon Musk into the No. 2 position in the richest person on the planet list, behind Amazon founder Jeff Bezos. The two have been swapping positions repeatedly this year.
\n
Tesla's stock is selling off for several reasons:
\n
Bitcoin
\n
Tesla announced earlier this month that it had invested $1.5 billion in bitcoin. That helped feed the recent rally in bitcoin and by some estimates earned Tesla a quick $1 billion profit — more than it has ever made from selling cars in a single year.
\n
But on Saturday, in response to a critic of Tesla's bitcoin investment, Musk tweeted that the prices of both bitcoin and another cryptocurrency called Ether \"do seem high.\" That helped to send the price of bitcoin down 9.3% in trading Monday, which may have helped to drag down Tesla shares.
\n
\"Bitcoin is the smart move at the right time for Tesla in our opinion, but on the downside its playing with firecrackers and risks and volatility are added to the Tesla story,\" said Daniel Ives, tech analyst for Wedbush Securities, who remains bullish on Tesla shares.
\n
Model Y pricing
\n
Last Thursday, Tesla cut the price of the cheapest version of its Model Y and its best-selling Model 3 cars by $2,000 each. That brought the price for the \"standard range\" Model Y, one that can travel 244 miles on a charge, to $38,490 -- and the standard range Model 3 to $34,590.
\n
But over the weekend, the cheapest \"standard range\" version of the Model Y disappeared from Tesla's sales site, leaving only the more expensive long-range and performance versions of the SUV. Tesla did not explain its decision.
\n
\"We see the plausible reasons as either: the mix was skewed too much to the cheaper variant, and thus it was going to kill their margins, or more likely there just wasn't much demand for the lower variant,\" said Gordon Johnson of GLJ Research, one of the more bearish critics on Tesla shares. He said the recent price cuts and other price cuts show that Tesla vehicles do not have the demand that its fans claim.
\n
\"Tesla can't keep its current factories running at capacity without ... price cuts,\" said Johnson in note on Monday.
\n
Increased competition
\n
Established automakers have recently set ambitious targets for their own EV sales.
\n
General Motors rolled out an SUV version of its Chevrolet Bolt a week ago, priced well below the Model Y, and announced it intends to sell only emissions-free cars after 2035.Ford set an even more ambitious EV target for its European sales, saying all of the car models it sells there will be EVs by 2030.
\n
Apple is also considering partnering with an automaker toget into the car business, according to several news reports.
\n
Those efforts are making some Tesla investors nervous, said Ives, although he believes there will be enough of a shift to EVs for multiple winners among global automakers.
\n
Investors got ahead of themselves
\n
Tesla shares peaked one day before a disappointing earnings report on January 27 that fell short of forecasts from Wall Street analysts.
\n
The earnings showed that the money Tesla made from the sale of regulatory credits to other automakers outpaced its overall net income. Critics, like Johnson, said it's proof Tesla isn't able to make money building and selling cars (although by some other profit measures Tesla is profitable).
\n
During the earnings conference call on January 27, Musk also spoke about a shortage of batteries needed to power electric vehicles. He said that even with Tesla's own in-house supply of batteries and its planned expansion of battery production, the company is scrambling to find the batteries it wants to build more vehicles.
\n
\"The fundamental limit on electric vehicles right now, in general, is total availability of [battery] cells,\" he said. For example, Musk said Tesla would have already started producing a semi-tractor if it had the batteries available to do so.
\n
Shares are still way up
\n
Tesla shares rose a market-leading 743% in 2020, as investors embraced the idea that the future of the auto industry would be electric. Tesla remains by far the most valuable automaker in the world, with a market value well above that of the eight largest automakers combined.
\n
Even with the recent decline. The stock closed at a record just above $883 on January 26 and has tumbled since. It fell low as $619 Tuesday, the first time Tesla shares have fallen below $700 since December 31.\nThe steep decline has taken Tesla shares below their level when the company entered the S&P 500 on December 21. It also knocked CEO Elon Musk into the No. 2 position in the richest person on the planet list, behind Amazon founder Jeff Bezos. The two have been swapping positions repeatedly this year.\nTesla's stock is selling off for several reasons:\nBitcoin\nTesla announced earlier this month that it had invested $1.5 billion in bitcoin. That helped feed the recent rally in bitcoin and by some estimates earned Tesla a quick $1 billion profit — more than it has ever made from selling cars in a single year.\nBut on Saturday, in response to a critic of Tesla's bitcoin investment, Musk tweeted that the prices of both bitcoin and another cryptocurrency called Ether \"do seem high.\" That helped to send the price of bitcoin down 9.3% in trading Monday, which may have helped to drag down Tesla shares.\n\"Bitcoin is the smart move at the right time for Tesla in our opinion, but on the downside its playing with firecrackers and risks and volatility are added to the Tesla story,\" said Daniel Ives, tech analyst for Wedbush Securities, who remains bullish on Tesla shares.\nModel Y pricing\nLast Thursday, Tesla cut the price of the cheapest version of its Model Y and its best-selling Model 3 cars by $2,000 each. That brought the price for the \"standard range\" Model Y, one that can travel 244 miles on a charge, to $38,490 -- and the standard range Model 3 to $34,590.\nBut over the weekend, the cheapest \"standard range\" version of the Model Y disappeared from Tesla's sales site, leaving only the more expensive long-range and performance versions of the SUV. Tesla did not explain its decision.\n\"We see the plausible reasons as either: the mix was skewed too much to the cheaper variant, and thus it was going to kill their margins, or more likely there just wasn't much demand for the lower variant,\" said Gordon Johnson of GLJ Research, one of the more bearish critics on Tesla shares. He said the recent price cuts and other price cuts show that Tesla vehicles do not have the demand that its fans claim.\n\"Tesla can't keep its current factories running at capacity without ... price cuts,\" said Johnson in note on Monday.\nIncreased competition\nEstablished automakers have recently set ambitious targets for their own EV sales.\nGeneral Motors rolled out an SUV version of its Chevrolet Bolt a week ago, priced well below the Model Y, and announced it intends to sell only emissions-free cars after 2035.Ford set an even more ambitious EV target for its European sales, saying all of the car models it sells there will be EVs by 2030.\nApple is also considering partnering with an automaker toget into the car business, according to several news reports.\nThose efforts are making some Tesla investors nervous, said Ives, although he believes there will be enough of a shift to EVs for multiple winners among global automakers.\nInvestors got ahead of themselves\nTesla shares peaked one day before a disappointing earnings report on January 27 that fell short of forecasts from Wall Street analysts.\nThe earnings showed that the money Tesla made from the sale of regulatory credits to other automakers outpaced its overall net income. Critics, like Johnson, said it's proof Tesla isn't able to make money building and selling cars (although by some other profit measures Tesla is profitable).\nDuring the earnings conference call on January 27, Musk also spoke about a shortage of batteries needed to power electric vehicles. He said that even with Tesla's own in-house supply of batteries and its planned expansion of battery production, the company is scrambling to find the batteries it wants to build more vehicles.\n\"The fundamental limit on electric vehicles right now, in general, is total availability of [battery] cells,\" he said. For example, Musk said Tesla would have already started producing a semi-tractor if it had the batteries available to do so.\nShares are still way up\nTesla shares rose a market-leading 743% in 2020, as investors embraced the idea that the future of the auto industry would be electric. Tesla remains by far the most valuable automaker in the world, with a market value well above that of the eight largest automakers combined.\nEven with the recent decline. Tesla shares are up about 1,300% since October 2019, when it reported a third-quarter profit that surprised investors, sending shares on a tear.\nSome investors believe Tesla's stock flew too high. Yet many analysts believe Tesla will bounce back. Ives has a 12-month target price of $950.\nEven so, he has a warning: \"It's 'buckle up the seat belt time' again for Tesla's stock with more volatility on the horizon,\" Ives said.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":369,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":389971435,"gmtCreate":1612674582427,"gmtModify":1704873447769,"author":{"id":"3555330067041904","authorId":"3555330067041904","name":"CHUAHM","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/4cdb0d8b6e98cad62de7d0ef1d3c058a","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3555330067041904","authorIdStr":"3555330067041904"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"buy more","listText":"buy more","text":"buy more","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/389971435","repostId":"1161551882","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":237,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":389971528,"gmtCreate":1612674550864,"gmtModify":1704873447440,"author":{"id":"3555330067041904","authorId":"3555330067041904","name":"CHUAHM","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/4cdb0d8b6e98cad62de7d0ef1d3c058a","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3555330067041904","authorIdStr":"3555330067041904"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"flat","listText":"flat","text":"flat","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/389971528","repostId":"2109727286","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":198,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":380026627,"gmtCreate":1612494922169,"gmtModify":1704871970488,"author":{"id":"3555330067041904","authorId":"3555330067041904","name":"CHUAHM","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/4cdb0d8b6e98cad62de7d0ef1d3c058a","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3555330067041904","authorIdStr":"3555330067041904"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"hmm","listText":"hmm","text":"hmm","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/380026627","repostId":"2109554742","repostType":2,"repost":{"id":"2109554742","kind":"highlight","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Reuters.com brings you the latest news from around the world, covering breaking news in markets, business, politics, entertainment and technology","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Reuters","id":"1036604489","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/443ce19704621c837795676028cec868"},"pubTimestamp":1612479345,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2109554742?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-02-05 06:55","market":"us","language":"en","title":"U.S. Treasury, regulators hail resilience of market infrastructure; reviews under way","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2109554742","media":"Reuters","summary":"WASHINGTON, Feb 4 (Reuters) - U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and top regulators agreed that th","content":"

WASHINGTON, Feb 4 (Reuters) - U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and top regulators agreed that the core infrastructure of financial markets proved resilient during high volatility and heavy trading volume seen during the recent \"Reddit rally\" of GameStop Corp and other stocks, the Treasury Department said in a statement on Thursday.

Yellen and the heads of the Securities and Exchange Commission, Federal Reserve Board, Federal Reserve Bank of New York and Commodity Futures Trading Commission also agreed during a meeting on Thursday about the importance of the SEC's releasing a timely study of the events, Treasury said. investors\n\n\n Chri","content":"

\n
\nMW UPDATE: Yellen meets with regulators over GameStop volatility, vows to protect investors\n
\n
\n Chris Matthews \n
\n
\n SEC, CFTC continue to review runup in meme stocks \n
\n
\n Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen convened a meeting with the nation's top regulators Thursday, who are continuing to review whether recent volatility in popular, so-called meme stocks, and brokers' responses to it, \"are consistent with investor protection and fair and efficient markets,\" according to a Treasury Department statement. \n
\n
\n Yellen met with the heads of the Securities and Exchange Commission, Federal Reserve Board, Federal Reserve Bank of New York and Commodity Futures Trading Commission to discuss the functioning of financial markets and practices of both investors and brokers in recent weeks. \n
\n
\n \"The regulators believe the core infrastructure was resilient during high volatility and heavy trading volume, and agree on the importance of the SEC releasing a timely study of the events,\" according to the statement. \"Secretary Yellen believes it is imperative to uphold the integrity of these markets and ensure investor protection.\" \n
\n
\n The meeting comes following a months-long social-media campaign by retail investors to drive up the value of heavily shorted stocks like GameStop Inc. $(GME)$ and AMC Entertainment Holdings Inc. $(AMC)$, and the recent decision by commission-free online brokers like Robinhood to restrict buying of shares and options in those firms. \n
\n
\n Read more: Lawsuits see conspiracy in Robinhood's GameStop moves, but experts doubt narrative \n
\n
\n Regulators appear to be approaching the case from a number of angles, including applying scrutiny to decisions by Robinhood and other brokers to restrict trading, as well as the potential of coordinated market manipulation on the part of evangelists on social media . \n
\n
\n One approach the SEC and the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority may take would be to curtail the practice of payment for order flow , whereby stock brokers are paid to direct customer trade orders to market makers, creating possible of conflicts of interest. \n
\n
\n Regulators are also likely interested in how the dynamic of free online margin trading, along with a social-media ecosystem that has fomented wild swings in prices of individual securities, could be interfering with financial markets' price discovery. \n
\n
\n \"Perhaps a concern among top regulators is that markets for certain stocks are not currently discovering prices effectively, and that individuals are trading on credit in these markets,\" Patrick Corrigan, a Notre Dame Law School professor specializing in securities regulation, said in an email. \n
\n
\n \"Regulators will analyze whether margin trading, short selling, 'game-like' features of certain broker-dealer apps, coordinated manipulation or other factors may be interfering with the price discovery process in stock markets,\" he added. \n
\n
\n Some analysts caution that despite the Robinhood-GameStop saga gripping Washington in recent days, the most likely scenario is that regulators make small reforms, while significant legislation fails to pass. \n
\n
\n \"We expect the agency to explore and eventually approve tougher requirements on brokerage disclosures to customers, including making it clearer that firms can halt trading in stocks,\" wrote Ian Katz of Capital Alpha Partners in a note to clients earlier this week. \n
\n
\n \"Congress will talk a lot about the trading frenzy, giving hedge funds a verbal beating,\" he added. \"Lawmakers will introduce bills, but we're skeptical that anything significant will become law -- unless the extreme volatility intensifies and extends to more stocks.\" \n
\n
\n -Chris Matthews; 415-439-6400; AskNewswires@dowjones.com \n
\n
\n \n
\n
\n <a A highly anticipated direct listing for the video game company Roblox is also on deck.

Ives has a 12-month target price of $950.\nEven so, he has a warning: \"It's 'buckle up the seat belt time' again for Tesla's stock with more volatility on the horizon,\" Ives said.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":369,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":389971528,"gmtCreate":1612674550864,"gmtModify":1704873447440,"author":{"id":"3555330067041904","authorId":"3555330067041904","name":"CHUAHM","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/4cdb0d8b6e98cad62de7d0ef1d3c058a","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3555330067041904","authorIdStr":"3555330067041904"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"flat","listText":"flat","text":"flat","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/389971528","repostId":"2109727286","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":198,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":340520758,"gmtCreate":1617435806974,"gmtModify":1704699686749,"author":{"id":"3555330067041904","authorId":"3555330067041904","name":"CHUAHM","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/4cdb0d8b6e98cad62de7d0ef1d3c058a","crmLevel":1,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3555330067041904","authorIdStr":"3555330067041904"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"oh dear","listText":"oh dear","text":"oh dear","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/340520758","repostId":"2124378797","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2124378797","kind":"news","weMediaInfo":{"introduction":"Reuters.com brings you the latest news from around the world, covering breaking news in markets, business, politics, entertainment and technology","home_visible":1,"media_name":"Reuters","id":"1036604489","head_image":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/443ce19704621c837795676028cec868"},"pubTimestamp":1617353880,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2124378797?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-04-02 16:58","market":"us","language":"en","title":"The hunt for lost billions: Failed Hin Leong's owners face asset claims","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2124378797","media":"Reuters","summary":"By Jessica Jaganathan and Anshuman Daga\nSINGAPORE (Reuters) - Stung by the collapse of Asia's top in","content":"

\n
By Jessica Jaganathan and Anshuman Daga
\n
SINGAPORE (Reuters) - Stung by the collapse of Asia's top independent oil trading firm, some global banks have teamed up to seek the personal assets of the family behind Hin Leong Trading, which has left creditors on the hook for billions of dollars.
\n
As part of what sources say is the biggest legal case in living memory in Singapore, liquidators and creditors are hunting for assets from the city-state to China to Australia belonging to the Lim family, after the Singapore-based company was wound up in March.
\n
At a hearing on Monday, court-appointed liquidators will ask the Singapore High Court to freeze the family's assets worldwide, from multimillion-dollar homes to country club memberships, shares and funds, three sources with knowledge of the case told Reuters.
\n
Hin Leong failed in a year-long effort to restructure about $3.5 billion in debts after the COVID-19-led oil crash laid bare huge losses. The prosecutors said this week they expect to charge him on Thursday with 23 more counts of forgery-related offences.\nOne-third of the roughly 150 ships owned by the family's Xihe Group have been sold for at least $420 million, according to VesselsValue, which tracks ship sales.\nThe Lims have also raised some $300 million to $370 million from selling their stake in Singapore's prized Universal Terminal oil storage facility, two sources said.\nWith O.K. Lim said to be in poor health and the family represented by a top Singapore litigator, who has previously represented the city-state's prime minister, creditors expect the Hin Leong legal saga to drag on.\n($1 = 1.3437 Singapore dollars)\n(Reporting by Jessica Jaganathan, Anshuman Daga, Florence Tan and Roslan Khasawneh; Additional reporting by Chen Aizhu; Editing by William
