Fool","summary":"These beaten-down stocks could still be big winners over the long run.","content":"
Sure, Cathie Wood's ARK Invest exchange-traded funds (ETFs) haven't been big winners so far this year. However, it's a much different story over a longer period. Three of the ARK ETFs rank in the top 10 best performers (and the only ETFs with greater returns are all leveraged).
\n
Wood deservedly stands out as one of the most successful stock pickers around. The good news is that small investors can profit from her ideas just as she can. Here are three especially promising stocks that Cathie Wood is buying that should be on your list, too.
\n

\n
\n
Etsy
\n
Etsy (NASDAQ:ETSY) isn't among the largest holdings in Wood's ARK Next Generation Internet ETF. However, Wood clearly likes the e-commerce stock and scooped up more shares earlier this month.
\n
After a fantastic performance in 2020, Etsy's shares are around 25% below their highs from earlier this year. Some investors are less bullish about the stock because Etsy expects its growth rate to decelerate after the pandemic-fueled surge. I suspect that Wood sees a huge long-term opportunity for the company that puts any temporary growth slowdown in perspective.
\n
The COVID-19 pandemic made Etsy more visible than ever before. Not only does the company have more users, but an increasing number of them have also become repeat buyers. Even with growth rates slowing, Etsy's actual growth remains impressive.
\n
More importantly, the company has only scratched the surface of the market potential for the handcrafted products that have made it a go-to site for consumers. Etsy is also expanding beyond its niche by acquiring London-based online clothing reseller Depop. This deal appears to be a smart move for Etsy. Wood seemingly agrees since she bought more shares roughly one week after the acquisition was announced.
\n
Unity Software
\n
Unity Software (NYSE:U) clearly ranks as one of Wood's favorite stocks. It's the eighth-largest holding in the ARK Innovation ETF and No. 10 holding in the ARK Next Generation Internet ETF. And Wood bought more shares of the gaming platform company for both ETFs in June.
\n
Like Etsy, Unity is well off its peak from earlier this year. Also like Etsy, Unity expects its growth to slow somewhat after a sizzling performance during 2020. Wood, however, knows that focusing on the long term is the way to make money investing.
\n
Unity's executives believe the company's addressable market totals close to $29 billion. Its biggest opportunity is in online gaming. Over half of the top mobile games, PC games, and console games were developed using Unity's platform.
\n
The company also sees plenty of room for growth outside of gaming that could expand its addressable market significantly. Developers are using Unity's platform to design automobiles and buildings, simulate autonomous driving, use augmented reality in employee training, and more. Unity is the kind of stock that just might double your money over the next few years -- and Wood knows it.
\n
Vertex Pharmaceuticals
\n
Wood remains a big fan of biotech stocks, with Vertex Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ:VRTX) as one of her top picks. It's the sixth-largest position in the ARK Genomic Revolution ETF.
\n
Vertex announced a setback earlier this month with alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency (AATD) candidate VX-864. Although the experimental drug met the primary endpoint of a phase 2 study, the company opted not to advance it into late-stage testing because it wasn't likely to achieve a \"substantial clinical benefit.\"
\n
Although Vertex's shares tanked on the news, Wood saw a buying opportunity. Vertex enjoys a monopoly in treating the underlying cause of rare genetic disease cystic fibrosis (CF). As a result, it's amassed a growing cash stockpile that will likely be put to use in acquiring and/or licensing new pipeline programs.
\n
In the meantime, Vertex has several promising candidates outside of CF. CTX001, a gene-editing therapy being developed with CRISPR Therapeutics, could effectively cure rare blood disorders beta-thalassemia and sickle cell disease. Vertex thinks that VX-147 could be a winner in treating kidney diseases in individuals with APOL1 gene variants. It's also evaluating a gene therapy in early-stage clinical testing targeting type 1 diabetes.
","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
3 Stocks Cathie Wood Is Buying That Should Be on Your List Too
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n3 Stocks Cathie Wood Is Buying That Should Be on Your List Too\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-06-24 19:10 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Sure, Cathie Wood's ARK Invest exchange-traded funds (ETFs) haven't been big winners so far this year. That spread of 27 percentage points represents the widest approval margin in an AP/NORC poll since Mr Biden took office.\nThe president continued to receive broadly positive marks for his handling of the coronavirus pandemic, with 7 in 10 respondents expressing approval. His approach to health care policy got a thumbs-up from 62 per cent of Americans, and 54 per cent approved of his work on foreign policy.\nFifty-seven per cent of Americans said they approved of the job he was doing on the economy, while just 42 per cent disapproved - although the poll was conducted from April 29 to May 3, before the administration released a disappointing April jobs report showing that the country was missing its targets on employment.\nWith migrants continuing to arrive at the southern border in high numbers, the poll found that just 43 per cent of Americans approved of Mr Biden's handling of immigration. Fifty-four per cent disapproved.\nBut for the first time in AP/NORC polling going back four years, a majority of Americans said that the country was headed in the right direction - possibly driven in part by the decline in coronavirus cases nationwide.\nFifty-four per cent of respondents said things were going right in the country, while 44 per cent said things were on the wrong track. That shift is being fed by a rise in optimism among political independents: Nearly half of them said that things were moving in the right direction, according to the poll.\nSince January, the AP/NORC poll has consistently found at least 6 in 10 Americans approving of the president's job performance, putting it on the more Biden-friendly end of the polling spectrum. (NORC polls are conducted using its probability-based AmeriSpeak Panel, with most respondents completing the survey online and a small number contacted by phone.)\nBut polling averages consistently show Mr Biden's approval rating over 50 per cent.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":200,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":190148635,"gmtCreate":1620608052927,"gmtModify":1704345372798,"author":{"id":"3556309835635576","authorId":"3556309835635576","authorIdStr":"3556309835635576","name":"georgesim98","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/c7b278e12e62d7feef203830a6cd8044","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3556309835635576"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Good to short?","listText":"Good to short?","text":"Good to short?","images":[{"img":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/c2235e0e75bd2b811d4de9daf1b2ed96","width":"1440","height":"2737"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/190148635","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":263,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":107788553,"gmtCreate":1620539256272,"gmtModify":1704344784931,"author":{"id":"3556309835635576","authorId":"3556309835635576","authorIdStr":"3556309835635576","name":"georgesim98","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/c7b278e12e62d7feef203830a6cd8044","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3556309835635576"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"The company is slow in the ev scene","listText":"The company is slow in the ev scene","text":"The company is slow in the ev scene","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/107788553","repostId":"2133688169","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2133688169","pubTimestamp":1620399721,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2133688169?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-05-07 23:02","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Here's Why We Think General Motors Is Well Worth Watching","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2133688169","media":"Simply Wall St.","summary":"It's only natural that many investors, especially those who are new to the game, prefer to buy share","content":"
It's only natural that many investors, especially those who are new to the game, prefer to buy shares in 'sexy' stocks with a good story, even if those businesses lose money. Wei said last month the company had worked with its customers since January to reallocate more capacity to support the auto industry, but the shortage had worsened due to a snowstorm in Texas and a fab manufacturing disruption in Japan.\nWei expected the chip shortage for its auto clients to be greatly reduced from the next quarter.\nThe Commerce Department is planning a high-level meeting with automakers set to take place next week on the chip shortage issue, said officials briefed on the matter. A Commerce Department spokesman declined to comment.\nUnited Auto Workers Legislative Director Josh Nassar said in written testimony for a U.S. House hearing on Wednesday that the chips shortage has resulted in the layoffs of \"tens of thousands of workers ... Clearly, we need to bolster domestic production of automotive-quality semiconductors.\"\nLast week,Ford Motorwarned the chips shortage may slash second-quarter production by half, cost it\nabout $2.5 billion and about 1.1 million units of lost production in 2021.\nGM said on Friday it would extend production halts at several North American factories because of the shortage.\nOn April 12, Biden convened semiconductor and auto industry executives to discuss solutions to the chip crisis. While the actual name remains a secret, the background and skillset of Greg Abel suggests the board will choose him.
\n
The primary reason is Abel’s extensive experience with capital allocation. During his time running Berkshire Hathaway Energy, and later as vice chairman overseeing non-insurance operations, Abel oversaw many acquisitions. He is also much more comfortable in the spotlight and about 10 years younger than Ajit Jain, the vice chairman in charge of insurance operations, which would give him a longer run at the helm. But dividends are tax-inefficient and impose a single standard on all shareholders, two reasons why Buffett has resisted paying one in the past. A better way is through share repurchases which, assuming they are made at prices below intrinsic value, instantly increase per-share value for remaining shareholders. However, share repurchases are price-dependent.
\n
This leaves a blended option as the most logical course of action. Berkshire could set a regular dividend equal to, say, 25% of normalized operating earnings. Then if share repurchases aren’t available or an acquisition doesn’t materialize, infrequent special dividends could be declared.
\n
A dividend during Buffett’s remaining tenure is unlikely if share repurchases remain an option. Longtime shareholders will recognize the need for such a change in policy, and others will rejoice at the prospect of Berkshire as a dividend-paying stock.
\n
What the company’s new leaders are unlikely to do is break up Berkshire Hathaway. More so than other conglomerates, this firm is truly more than the sum of its parts. The conglomerate gains in tax efficiency, diversification, and capital allocation. Dismantling Berkshire to “unlock” value via higher price-earnings multiples would destroy these advantages and incur unnecessary taxes. Most important, it would tarnish the reputation Berkshire has carefully nurtured as a permanent home for generational family businesses.
\n
Buffett put it succinctly in his 2018 Chairman’s letter, published in 2019: “Truly good businesses are exceptionally hard to find. Selling any you are lucky enough to own makes no sense at all.”
\n
Yet the next generation of Berkshire’s leaders are likely to hear loud calls from Wall Street (and perhaps some shareholders) to break up Buffett’s life’s work. The crux of the argument over breaking up Berkshire comes down to what constitutes value.
\n
Berkshire was built on the notion that value – the sum of all future cash flows discounted to the present – is independent of the stock market’s appraisal of that value. The underlying cash flows of Berkshire’s many subsidiaries would not change upon being separated into pieces (in fact they could be lower considering duplicated costs), which means that their value would not increase after a breakup. The subsidiaries already take advantage of opportunities for organic investment and bolt-on acquisitions that come their way, and Berkshire has taken care of the reinvestment problem by allowing excess cash to be sent to headquarters.
\n
Instead, Berkshire’s future value creation will likely come by minimizing the downside (maintaining insurance underwriting discipline and resisting mediocre capital allocation moves) to allow infrequent but meaningful advantages to accrue and accumulate to the benefit of ongoing shareholders.
\n
Value can be created by time arbitrage (a long-term business owner in an often short-term-thinking market), being a permanent home for family businesses (private-market discounts), by acting as an alternative source of financing when credit markets dry up (as Buffett did in the financial crisis when he invested $14.5 billion over the course of three days in Goldman Sachs, Wrigley, and General Electric), and through opportunistic share repurchases.
\n
Of course, the ultimate fate of Berkshire Hathaway rests with its shareholders. Berkshire will undoubtedly not look the same in 25, 50 or 100 years, but it should thrive without Warren Buffett because of the unique corporate culture that he and Charlie Munger so painstakingly nurtured for the last half-century.
\n
That is perhaps the highest praise one can give a man who took a blank canvas and turned it into one of the finest and most highly valued pieces of artwork the business world has ever seen.
","source":"lsy1603348471595","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Berkshire Hathaway after Buffett: Who will be CEO, what else will change — and what won’t
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nBerkshire Hathaway after Buffett: Who will be CEO, what else will change — and what won’t\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-05-03 14:57 GMT+8 MarketWatch\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
The next CEO will need a plan to return cash to shareholders\nWarren Buffett turns 91 on Aug. 30. Berkshire will undoubtedly not look the same in 25, 50 or 100 years, but it should thrive without Warren Buffett because of the unique corporate culture that he and Charlie Munger so painstakingly nurtured for the last half-century.\nThat is perhaps the highest praise one can give a man who took a blank canvas and turned it into one of the finest and most highly valued pieces of artwork the business world has ever seen.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":355,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0}],"hots":[{"id":102140844,"gmtCreate":1620188147788,"gmtModify":1704339941080,"author":{"id":"3556309835635576","authorId":"3556309835635576","authorIdStr":"3556309835635576","name":"georgesim98","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/c7b278e12e62d7feef203830a6cd8044","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3556309835635576"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Bitcoin is still speculation","listText":"Bitcoin is still speculation","text":"Bitcoin is still speculation","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":4,"commentSize":1,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/102140844","repostId":"1177270113","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1177270113","pubTimestamp":1620184487,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1177270113?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-05-05 11:14","market":"us","language":"en","title":"JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon says he’s still a crypto skeptic: ‘I’m not a bitcoin supporter. They have started the Tasman bubble. And, you must be prepared to make adjustments as the Covid-19 situation evolves.\"\nThe air travel bubble is slated to take off on May 26 for the two Asian aviation hubs, but the recent clusters in the city-state have called into question if the arrangement would be able to proceedas scheduled.\nLola Uña Cárdenas, vice-president of government affairs at the World Travel and Tourism Council, appealed to governments to standardise international mobility requirements, given the current rules that vary within states and regions.\nShe said: \"So, we have, from the private sector, one single request to governments, and we've been calling on governments to provide certainty and clarity.\"\nThe council, with members from airlines, airports, hotels, tour operators and others players in the travel and tourism sectors, is against vaccination as a travel requirement as it may lead to discrimination.\nMs Cárdenas said there are some countries that do not even have access to, or have a calendar for vaccinations. \"We should not really discriminate against those who wish to travel, but have not been vaccinated.\"\nIndeed, chief executive of the Singapore Business Federation Lam Yi Young said: \"Public-private collaboration is key to developing a consistent regional framework that facilitates business travel and avoids a 'spaghetti bowl of rules' that can result in unnecessary costs, complexity and time spent in quarantine for travellers.\n\"The development of a regional framework, which allows economies to come onboard when they are ready, will help to boost global economic recovery.\"\nAbout 400 business leaders and government officials from the 21 Apec economies participated in the virtual event.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":325,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":327378076287072,"gmtCreate":1720959652672,"gmtModify":1720959674935,"author":{"id":"3556309835635576","authorId":"3556309835635576","authorIdStr":"3556309835635576","name":"georgesim98","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/c7b278e12e62d7feef203830a6cd8044","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3556309835635576"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"it YORK (NYTIMES) - US President Joe Biden enjoys widespread job approval, as Americans' optimism about the future continues to climb, according to a poll released Monday (May 10) by The Associated Press and NORC.\nSixty-three per cent of Americans said they approved of the work Mr Biden was doing as president, while just 36 per cent disapproved.
