The thinking here is that a company wouldn&#39;t need to split in the first place if it wasn&#39;t executing on its growth strategy and hadn&#39;t seen its share price rise as a result.</p><p>But among this veritable sea of stock-split stocks in 2022 stands two widely held companies that are historically cheaper than they&#39;ve ever been and are begging to be bought by patient investors.</p><h2>Alphabet</h2><p>Without question, the no-brainer buy among this year&#39;s stock-split stocks is <b>Alphabet</b>, parent company of internet search engine Google and streaming platform YouTube.</p><p>Alphabet actually kicked off stock-split mania by announcing in February that, with the approval of its shareholders, it would split its shares 20-for-1. The company ultimately gained the requisite approval of its shareholders and began trading at its post-split price on July 18.</p><p>Like most FAANG stocks, Alphabet has been put through the wringer this year. There appears to be growing evidence that a recession is brewing or possibly already here. Since the lion&#39;s share of the company&#39;s sales is derived from advertising, and ad revenue is among the first things to be hit during a recession or economic contraction, there&#39;s genuine worry that Alphabet could be fighting an uphill battle in coming quarters.</p><p>However, analyzing Alphabet&#39;s operating performance over one or two quarters isn&#39;t the correct approach. If investors widen the lens and take into account its numerous sustainable competitive advantages and long-winded growth opportunities, they&#39;d likely realize it&#39;s one of Wall Street&#39;s top bargains.</p><p>Take the company&#39;s foundational internet search engine segment as a perfect example. For the past two years, Google has practically been a monopoly. Data from GlobalStats shows that it&#39;s held between 91% and 93% of global internet search market share. This virtually insurmountable market share lead is what affords the company such impressive ad-pricing power. It also explains why Google has grown by a double-digit annual percentage (save for the initial stages of the COVID-19 pandemic) for two decades.</p><p>There&#39;s also YouTube, which has blossomed into the second most-visited social media site on the planet (2.56 billion monthly active users). Although ad sales have slowed in recent quarters as recession worries mount, YouTube appears to be pacing close to $30 billion in annual ad sales. Additionally, don&#39;t overlook YouTube&#39;s premium subscriptions as a growth driver.</p><p>But it&#39;s Alphabet&#39;s cloud service infrastructure segment, Google Cloud, which is most impressive. Google Cloud is the world&#39;s No. 3 cloud service provider by total revenue, and it&#39;s been consistently growing by 40% to 50% on an annual basis. Although it&#39;s a bottom-line drag for the moment as Alphabet invests aggressively in cloud, it could easily become the company&#39;s leading operating cash flow driver by mid-decade.</p><p>Over the past five years, Alphabet has traded at an average of 26.4 times Wall Street&#39;s forward-year earnings forecast for the company, as well as 19.2 times cash flow. You can pick up shares of Alphabet right now for less than 17 times Wall Street&#39;s forecast earnings for 2023 and less than 9 times forecast cash flow for 2025. It&#39;s a screaming buy at these levels.</p><p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/658dab36fafe7be882565f7cd199cc1b\" tg-width=\"700\" tg-height=\"465\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/></p><h2>Amazon</h2><p>Perhaps unsurprisingly, the second stock-split stock that&#39;s historically cheap and begging to be bought by opportunistic long-term investors is FAANG stock <b>Amazon</b>.</p><p>Amazon rode Alphabet&#39;s coattails and announced its intention to conduct a 20-for-1 forward stock split in March. However, it beat Alphabet to the punch by gaining shareholder approval and executing its split on June 6.</p><p>Consistent with prevailing recessionary fears, Amazon&#39;s shares have come under pressure in 2022. As a company that generates the bulk of its revenue from e-commerce sales, historically high inflation and a potential economic slowdown represent a worrisome combination. It also doesn&#39;t help that retail giant <b>Walmart</b> issued a profit warning following the closing bell on July 25.</p><p>But just as with Alphabet, examining a one- or-two-quarter performance for Amazon won&#39;t tell you a lot about where this company is headed. If you really dig in and look at the big picture, you&#39;ll see a company where practically everything is going right, even in the wake of historically high inflation.</p><p>Most people are familiar with Amazon because of its leading online marketplace. In March, eMarketer released a study estimating that Amazon would collect just shy of 40% of all online retail sales in the U.S. in 2022. By comparison, the company&#39;s 14 closest competitors are only expected to account for 31% of e-commerce sales in the U.S. on a combined basis.</p><p>Yet retail sales are a capital-intensive and generally low-margin segment for Amazon. Though e-commerce is responsible for most of the company&#39;s sales, it&#39;s the ancillary opportunities created from e-commerce, as well as Amazon&#39;s other operating segments, that are key to its success.</p><p>As an example, Amazon&#39;s online marketplace has helped the company sign up more than 200 million Prime members worldwide. That&#39;s tens of billions of dollars in annual fees the company collects from Prime, which it&#39;s able to use to support its vast logistics network, undercut brick-and-mortar retailers on price, or perhaps reinvest in other high-growth initiatives.</p><p>The fascinating aspect about Amazon is that its leading online retail segment could generate no growth or modestly negative growth, and the company&#39;s operating cash flow can still soar. That&#39;s because it&#39;s generating considerably juicier operating margins from advertising, subscriptions, and cloud services.</p><p>Whereas Google Cloud chimes in as the world&#39;s No. 3 cloud-service provider with 8% share, Amazon Web Services (AWS) accounted for 33% of global cloud service sales in the first quarter, according to Canalys. AWS has been growing by 30% to 40% annually. Even though AWS only accounts for roughly an eighth of Amazon&#39;s net sales, it&#39;s consistently been the company&#39;s leading generator of operating income.</p><p>Over the trailing five-year period, Amazon has averaged a multiple of 31.1 times its operating cash flow. This is a premium that Wall Street and investors have been comfortable paying for shares of Amazon since 2010. Yet based on Wall Street&#39;s consensus, Amazon could more than triple its cash flow by 2025 (relative to 2021), and it would be valued at a multiple of 8.6 times cash flow. However, it beat Alphabet to the punch by gaining shareholder approval and executing its split on June 6.Consistent with prevailing recessionary fears, Amazon's shares have come under pressure in 2022. As a company that generates the bulk of its revenue from e-commerce sales, historically high inflation and a potential economic slowdown represent a worrisome combination. It also doesn't help that retail giant Walmart issued a profit warning following the closing bell on July 25.But just as with Alphabet, examining a one- or-two-quarter performance for Amazon won't tell you a lot about where this company is headed. If you really dig in and look at the big picture, you'll see a company where practically everything is going right, even in the wake of historically high inflation.Most people are familiar with Amazon because of its leading online marketplace. In March, eMarketer released a study estimating that Amazon would collect just shy of 40% of all online retail sales in the U.S. in 2022. By comparison, the company's 14 closest competitors are only expected to account for 31% of e-commerce sales in the U.S. on a combined basis.Yet retail sales are a capital-intensive and generally low-margin segment for Amazon. Though e-commerce is responsible for most of the company's sales, it's the ancillary opportunities created from e-commerce, as well as Amazon's other operating segments, that are key to its success.As an example, Amazon's online marketplace has helped the company sign up more than 200 million Prime members worldwide. That's tens of billions of dollars in annual fees the company collects from Prime, which it's able to use to support its vast logistics network, undercut brick-and-mortar retailers on price, or perhaps reinvest in other high-growth initiatives.The fascinating aspect about Amazon is that its leading online retail segment could generate no growth or modestly negative growth, and the company's operating cash flow can still soar. That's because it's generating considerably juicier operating margins from advertising, subscriptions, and cloud services.Whereas Google Cloud chimes in as the world's No. 3 cloud-service provider with 8% share, Amazon Web Services (AWS) accounted for 33% of global cloud service sales in the first quarter, according to Canalys. AWS has been growing by 30% to 40% annually. Even though AWS only accounts for roughly an eighth of Amazon's net sales, it's consistently been the company's leading generator of operating income.Over the trailing five-year period, Amazon has averaged a multiple of 31.1 times its operating cash flow. This is a premium that Wall Street and investors have been comfortable paying for shares of Amazon since 2010. Yet based on Wall Street's consensus, Amazon could more than triple its cash flow by 2025 (relative to 2021), and it would be valued at a multiple of 8.6 times cash flow. That makes it historically cheap and an ideal stock-split stock for long-term investors to buy right In other words, software.</p><p>This year&#39;s keynote was a bit different: It also had hardware.</p><p>No, there wasn&#39;t any mention of the hotly anticipated virtual-reality headset at the Monday keynote, which was pretaped but shown to an in-person audience of media and developers at the company&#39;s Cupertino, Calif., headquarters. Nor was there any mention of the next iPhone, which will likely come in September. However, Apple unveiled its latest processor, the M2, and with it a revamped MacBook Air and an upgraded MacBook Pro.</p><p>Of course, most of the screen time dwelt on iOS 16, iPad OS 16, WatchOS 9 and MacOS Ventura, the updates expected to be free this fall. Free for those of you with supported devices, that is. (Sorry iPhone 7 users, you didn&#39;t make the cut.)  Here are the most noteworthy hardware and software highlights from the event.</p><h2>New MacBook Air and Pro</h2><h2><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/96b58e849a547df005ccbdaf9115270d\" tg-width=\"699\" tg-height=\"466\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/></h2><p>The MacBook Air got a new look and the more powerful, battery-efficient M2 chip. It ditches the classic Air wedge for all straight edges, and there&#39;s a new deep-blue color option. One feature that made me double take: The MagSafe charging cable is back. So if you trip on your power cord, that detaches without taking your whole laptop with it.</p><p>It has a larger 13.6-inch display, up from 13.3 inches. It also has an improved 1080p webcam, up from 720p, surrounded by a notch reminiscent of the latest iPhones. It&#39;s a touch thinner and lighter, though the overall footprint is just slightly larger. (We&#39;re talking millimeters here.)</p><p>The new MacBook Air starts at $1,199 -- a $200 price hike. A 30-watt brick is included with the base configuration, but if you pay $20 extra, or choose a pricier configuration, you can get it with either a new 35-watt compact adapter option with two USB-C ports or a 67-watt adapter. Both will also be sold separately for $59.</p><p>The 13-inch MacBook Pro is getting a processor bump to the M2, but remains relatively unchanged beyond that. It starts at $1,299. Apple said both laptops will be available next month.</p><h2>iOS 16</h2><h2><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/9a060b37a5a22b6c035c0721c38eb9fc\" tg-width=\"573\" tg-height=\"382\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/></h2><p>Come this fall, you&#39;ll be able to edit and recall sent messages in the Messages app. The functionality will be available for 15 minutes after you send it. And if you&#39;re overloaded with messages and want to revisit any, you&#39;ll be able to mark them as unread, like an email.</p><p>The Fitness app, previously reserved for Apple Watch users, will be available to everyone. The iPhone&#39;s motion sensors, which already estimate your steps and distance for the Health app, will show that data in the Fitness app, alongside workouts from third-party apps such as Strava.</p><p>Your lock screen -- the screen you see when you&#39;re checking the time a hundred times a day -- is about to get fancier. Android phones have long had custom lockscreens and were once the object of iPhoners&#39; (read: my) envy. At last, iPhones will show calendar events, weather and other customizable information at a glance, without you needing to unlock the device. You can also personalize the font and color of the clock. You can set up multiple lock screens and associate them with different Focus Modes, a suite of complicated but useful custom Do Not Disturb settings.</p><p>In iOS 16, you&#39;ll be able to dictate with your voice and edit the text with the touch screen simultaneously, by selecting text with your finger then speaking new words, for example.</p><p>Apple redesigned the way parents can set age restrictions on their kids&#39; content, making it easier to do more. Another parental control change: Screen-time requests can be granted or denied right from the Messages app.</p><p>In the Photos app, families will be able to create shared libraries. For instance, all the pictures everyone takes on a family vacation can be shared either voluntarily or automatically based on your preferences.</p><p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/ef85d1d621a107db1d76f412d1a2acb9\" tg-width=\"700\" tg-height=\"394\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/></p><p>I wish my car had CarPlay, Apple&#39;s iPhone-friendly, in-vehicle infotainment system. Now that Apple teased the next generation of CarPlay, I&#39;m thinking about holding off on my next vehicle purchase. It&#39;s a full Apple takeover of the dashboard, so you get speed and other standard instrument data superimposed on top of turn-by-turn directions. And while Apple listed partners including Ford, Honda and Volvo, the company said vehicle announcements aren&#39;t due until late 2023.</p><h2>MacOS Ventura</h2><p>Your iPhone&#39;s high-resolution camera can become your next Mac webcam with what&#39;s called Continuity Camera. I&#39;ve used an app called Reincubate Camo to do the same thing, but the native Mac version will have more bells and whistles. The software automatically keeps your video in frame as you move, blurs your background and applies lighting features to brighten the image.</p><p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/f57b0b0b1e92585d6828cb2b32329112\" tg-width=\"699\" tg-height=\"466\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/></p><p>Desk View shows a second angle, a birds-eye view of your desk for demos, by just using the iPhone&#39;s ultrawide-angle camera and image processing. (Before deploying this feature, make sure there&#39;s nothing on your desk you wouldn&#39;t want colleagues to see.) Apple says it&#39;s working with Belkin to create mounts, due later this year, for perching an iPhone on a MacBook&#39;s open top.</p><p>Passwords are out, passkeys are in. Safari will support passkeys, which use the biometric sensors in your device to authenticate logins. That means no passwords to remember or store in a password manager. You just need the device that&#39;s on you. Apple is working to make passkeys compatible with online services by way of the FIDO Alliance, an industry group, so it&#39;s likely other devices and operating systems will follow suit. It&#39;s a big step toward a password-less future.</p><h2>iPadOS 16</h2><h2><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/a01fa909228a1e6e8fc0cd048cbf66d9\" tg-width=\"700\" tg-height=\"394\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/></h2><p>As a longtime iPad-as-computer person, I have been waiting for this software update. I have spent years mastering the iPad&#39;s many complicated multitasking gestures, but now they may not be necessary.</p><p>With iPadOS 16, the tablet will behave more like a Mac. The windows of different applications overlap, and you can resize them freely, instead of using Apple&#39;s predetermined proportions. For iPads with the M1 chip, there&#39;s even full external display support. With a monitor connected, those tablets will be able to run up to eight apps simultaneously. When you lump in past additions such as mouse support, you can finally see iPads becoming &#34;real&#34; computers. (But I&#39;ll test this in the fall to make sure.)</p><h2>WatchOS 9</h2><h2><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/a2453a4489c8ac0a1407b47c1b14940b\" tg-width=\"639\" tg-height=\"639\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"/></h2><p>There are a slew of new health and fitness features for the watch.</p><p>A feature to help remind you to take and log medications will be built into the Apple Watch with WatchOS 9, and it will also be in the Health app on the iPhone with iOS 16. You can share the medication log with family members, and the app can note any potentially dangerous interactions between the medications, supplements and vitamins you&#39;re taking. Snap a picture of the medication&#39;s label with an iPhone to automatically add it to the app.</p><p>Sleep tracking can sometimes hurt more than it helps, but for those who do like a record of their good night&#39;s rest, or lack thereof, the watch will show time spent in different sleep stages.</p><p>While working out, you will get a new heart-rate zone view to gauge intensity level. Runners can see their vertical oscillation, stride length or ground contact time metrics, and both runners and cyclists can compare current and past performance on the same route. A new multisport workout mode that automatically transitions between swim, bike and run will be available.</p><p>Finally, for swimmers, the Apple Watch has long been kickboard-challenged because wrists are stationary while kicking. It ditches the classic Air wedge for all straight edges, and there&#39;s a new deep-blue color option. One feature that made me double take: The MagSafe charging cable is back. So if you trip on your power cord, that detaches without taking your whole laptop with it.</p><p>It has a larger 13.6-inch display, up from 13.3 inches. It also has an improved 1080p webcam, up from 720p, surrounded by a notch reminiscent of the latest iPhones. It&#39;s a touch thinner and lighter, though the overall footprint is just slightly larger. (We&#39;re talking millimeters here.)</p><p>The new MacBook Air starts at $1,199 -- a $200 price hike. A 30-watt brick is included with the base configuration, but if you pay $20 extra, or choose a pricier configuration, you can get it with either a new 35-watt compact adapter option with two USB-C ports or a 67-watt adapter. Both will also be sold separately for $59.</p><p>The 13-inch MacBook Pro is getting a processor bump to the M2, but remains relatively unchanged beyond that. It starts at $1,299. And if you&#39;re overloaded with messages and want to revisit any, you&#39;ll be able to mark them as unread, like an email.</p><p>The Fitness app, previously reserved for Apple Watch users, will be available to everyone. The iPhone&#39;s motion sensors, which already estimate your steps and distance for the Health app, will show that data in the Fitness app, alongside workouts from third-party apps such as Strava.</p><p>Your lock screen -- the screen you see when you&#39;re checking the time a hundred times a day -- is about to get fancier. Android phones have long had custom lockscreens and were once the object of iPhoners&#39; (read: my) envy. At last, iPhones will show calendar events, weather and other customizable information at a glance, without you needing to unlock the device. You can also personalize the font and color of the clock. You can set up multiple lock screens and associate them with different Focus Modes, a suite of complicated but useful custom Do Not Disturb settings.</p><p>In iOS 16, you&#39;ll be able to dictate with your voice and edit the text with the touch screen simultaneously, by selecting text with your finger then speaking new words, for example.</p><p>Apple redesigned the way parents can set age restrictions on their kids&#39; content, making it easier to do more. Another parental control change: Screen-time requests can be granted or denied right from the Messages app.</p><p>In the Photos app, families will be able to create shared libraries. It&#39;s a full Apple takeover of the dashboard, so you get speed and other standard instrument data superimposed on top of turn-by-turn directions. And while Apple listed partners including Ford, Honda and Volvo, the company said vehicle announcements aren&#39;t due until late 2023.</p><h2>MacOS Ventura</h2><p>Your iPhone&#39;s high-resolution camera can become your next Mac webcam with what&#39;s called Continuity Camera. I&#39;ve used an app called Reincubate Camo to do the same thing, but the native Mac version will have more bells and whistles. The software automatically keeps your video in frame as you move, blurs your background and applies lighting features to brighten the image.</p><p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/f57b0b0b1e92585d6828cb2b32329112\" tg-width=\"699\" tg-height=\"466\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/></p><p>Desk View shows a second angle, a birds-eye view of your desk for demos, by just using the iPhone&#39;s ultrawide-angle camera and image processing. Apple says it&#39;s working with Belkin to create mounts, due later this year, for perching an iPhone on a MacBook&#39;s open top.</p><p>Passwords are out, passkeys are in. Safari will support passkeys, which use the biometric sensors in your device to authenticate logins. That means no passwords to remember or store in a password manager. You just need the device that&#39;s on you. Apple is working to make passkeys compatible with online services by way of the FIDO Alliance, an industry group, so it&#39;s likely other devices and operating systems will follow suit. mispricing.</li></ul><p><b>Thesis</b></p><p>My past articles on Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) have been focusing on its nonlinear growth potential in the long term. As investors are on the edge of their seats, anxiously waiting for its earnings report on July 20, I want to switch the focus to the near term in this article.</p><p>If history is of any guidance, Elon Musk will surprise the investors in some way this round too. It is difficult enough to anticipate what the surprises will be (though I will take a stab at it in the next section). The major surprise may come from the China front. Tesla’s Giga Shanghai plant has been recovering since the lockdown during Q1. Depending on the market views on the degree of the recovery, it could trigger a large price movement. Furthermore, according to the China Passenger Car Association&#39;s (CPCA)most recent data, the total TSLA volume amounted to 32,165 units for May. Still not on par with its best days, but it is only 4% less than a year ago. At the same time, global shipping data also shows signs that the supply chain disruptions are easing.</p><p>Even if the surprises are correctly anticipated, it is only the beginning. It’s even harder to predict how the market responds to such surprises, which brings me to some actionable ideas. To me, the market never seems to learn its Musk lesson and habitually underestimates its price volatility, creating an opportunity for using option investors either for hedging or for profiting. The options market’s implied volatility for TSLA is about 60% to 63% for options expiring in Jan 2023. To put things into perspective, the implied volatility for the NASDAQ 100 index (represented by QQQ) is about 30%. So the market views TSLA volatility to be only about 2x above the NASDAQ 100 index. But in reality, TSLA stock prices easily fluctuated more than 10x on a daily basis than QQQ, as we will see toward the end of the article.</p><p><b>Potential Q2 surprises</b></p><p>Several key cities in China, most notably Shanghai, have been in lock mode due to the resurgence of COVID cases early in the year. As a result, production at its Shanghai Gigafactory has halted for 22 days (from March 28 to April 19). After the lockdown has ended, TSLA has been restoring the production of its Shanghai factory. According to this report, its Shanghai production has recovered to 70% of its pre-lockdown output level as of May 23. The new development since May 23 could be a source of major surprise during the Q2 earnings report.</p><p>My forecast is that the surprise will be on the positive side for two reasons. First, according to the latest data from the China Passenger Car Association (&#34;CPAA&#34;), the supply side has improved significantly since April, and the country&#39;s automobile production capacity to fully recover in the next few months. You can see how miserable the April month is for TSLA in the chart below and see how the May month has recovered almost fully to the level a year ago.</p><p>Second, beyond China, there are also signs that the global supply chain congestion is easing. According to Drewry’s data shown in the chart below, the cost peaked above $10k in September 2021 and staged another smaller hike in late 2021. The shipping cost has been keeping declining since then, signaling that the worst has passed. To wit, the composite World Container Index decreased by 0.7% to $6,998 per 40ft container this week. To broaden the view a bit more, when TSLA reported its Q1 earnings back in April, the composite World Container Index stood at $7874. And the current level of $6,998 is about 12% lower.</p><p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/f3f9b4d37a16743f3100532e1e2fbdbb\" tg-width=\"640\" tg-height=\"305\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/></p><p>InsideEVs</p><p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/11a8a754370950bcc1fb3d9abf672c56\" tg-width=\"640\" tg-height=\"377\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/></p><p>Drewry’s data</p><p><b>Market kept underestimating TSLA volatility</b></p><p>As aforementioned, even if the above forecasts are correct, the market still could respond to such surprises in either direction. And this is where options may help investors. Buying and holding shares bets on the stock price only. But options give investors an additional knob to control their risks and profits – volatility.</p><p>And my view is that the market underestimates TSLA volatility substantially, leading to a mispricing of its options. We will provide detailed numbers in the next section. Here let’s eyeball the data first and see if they pass a common-sense test. As you can see from the chart below, TSLA stock price experienced peak-to-trough fluctuations of 24.6% following the day of its 2021 Q4 ER on Jan 26, then another similarly wide fluctuation of 21.8% on its 2022 Q1 ER on April 20. Besides the earnings surprise, Elon Musk can also find a way to cause large price movements too. His Twitter poll about whether he should reduce his holdings or not in Nov 2021 serves as an example, causing again about 17% price fluctuations in a day.</p><p>Such fluctuations are easily 10x more than the average daily fluctuations of QQQ, yet TSLA implied volatility is only about 2x higher than QQQ, as we will see next.</p><p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/31734c8ea0e7f0d0c690e29e23aff737\" tg-width=\"640\" tg-height=\"298\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/></p><p>Yahoo Finance</p><p><b>Detailed look at the options</b></p><p>As of this writing, TSLA’s near-the-money options with a $720 strike with an expiry of 1/20/2023 sell between $133 to $125 for calls and puts as you can see from the chart below provided by OIC. You can also see the implied volatility of about ~63%. Again, to me, this is a sizable underestimate.</p><p>As of this writing, QQQ’s near-the-money options ($290 strike) with the same expiry sell with an implied volatility of about ~30%. Assuming investors have correctly figured out the implied volatility for QQQ (given its role as a major index), TSLA’s implied volatility is only about 2x higher than QQQ, but its real price fluctuations are much wider, especially during major events like earnings releases as argued above.</p><p>As a matter of fact, TSLA’s implied volatility does not even capture its historical volatility as you can see from the second chart below. Due to the Musk factor alone, I would assume the options market would <i>at least</i> price its implied volatility on par with its historical volatility. The main considerations are the recovery on the China front and signs that the global supply chain disruptions are easing. For investors who do not want to bet on the direction of the surprises, but only on the magnitude of the surprises, I see an option play as a viable strategy here given the mispricing of its volatility.</p><p>And finally, risks. Given that this article’s focus itself is on the surprises (codeword for uncertainties/risks), I will not ramble about other risks TSLA is facing anymore. I will just emphasize the risks associated with the use of options here. Options (either calls or puts) can limit risks in terms of the <i>absolute dollar amount</i>. But it is riskier in relative terms because it is a leverage play in essence. As investors are on the edge of their seats, anxiously waiting for its earnings report on July 20, I want to switch the focus to the near term in this article.If history is of any guidance, Elon Musk will surprise the investors in some way this round too. It is difficult enough to anticipate what the surprises will be (though I will take a stab at it in the next section). The major surprise may come from the China front. Tesla’s Giga Shanghai plant has been recovering since the lockdown during Q1. Depending on the market views on the degree of the recovery, it could trigger a large price movement. Furthermore, according to the China Passenger Car Association's (CPCA)most recent data, the total TSLA volume amounted to 32,165 units for May. Still not on par with its best days, but it is only 4% less than a year ago. At the same time, global shipping data also shows signs that the supply chain disruptions are easing.Even if the surprises are correctly anticipated, it is only the beginning. It’s even harder to predict how the market responds to such surprises, which brings me to some actionable ideas. To me, the market never seems to learn its Musk lesson and habitually underestimates its price volatility, creating an opportunity for using option investors either for hedging or for profiting. The options market’s implied volatility for TSLA is about 60% to 63% for options expiring in Jan 2023. To put things into perspective, the implied volatility for the NASDAQ 100 index (represented by QQQ) is about 30%. So the market views TSLA volatility to be only about 2x above the NASDAQ 100 index. But in reality, TSLA stock prices easily fluctuated more than 10x on a daily basis than QQQ, as we will see toward the end of the article.Potential Q2 surprisesSeveral key cities in China, most notably Shanghai, have been in lock mode due to the resurgence of COVID cases early in the year. As a result, production at its Shanghai Gigafactory has halted for 22 days (from March 28 to April 19). After the lockdown has ended, TSLA has been restoring the production of its Shanghai factory. According to this report, its Shanghai production has recovered to 70% of its pre-lockdown output level as of May 23. The new development since May 23 could be a source of major surprise during the Q2 earnings report.My forecast is that the surprise will be on the positive side for two reasons. First, according to the latest data from the China Passenger Car Association (\"CPAA\"), the supply side has improved significantly since April, and the country's automobile production capacity to fully recover in the next few months. You can see how miserable the April month is for TSLA in the chart below and see how the May month has recovered almost fully to the level a year ago.Second, beyond China, there are also signs that the global supply chain congestion is easing. According to Drewry’s data shown in the chart below, the cost peaked above $10k in September 2021 and staged another smaller hike in late 2021. The shipping cost has been keeping declining since then, signaling that the worst has passed. To wit, the composite World Container Index decreased by 0.7% to $6,998 per 40ft container this week. To broaden the view a bit more, when TSLA reported its Q1 earnings back in April, the composite World Container Index stood at $7874. And the current level of $6,998 is about 12% lower.InsideEVsDrewry’s dataMarket kept underestimating TSLA volatilityAs aforementioned, even if the above forecasts are correct, the market still could respond to such surprises in either direction. And this is where options may help investors. Buying and holding shares bets on the stock price only. But options give investors an additional knob to control their risks and profits – volatility.And my view is that the market underestimates TSLA volatility substantially, leading to a mispricing of its options. We will provide detailed numbers in the next section. Here let’s eyeball the data first and see if they pass a common-sense test. As you can see from the chart below, TSLA stock price experienced peak-to-trough fluctuations of 24.6% following the day of its 2021 Q4 ER on Jan 26, then another similarly wide fluctuation of 21.8% on its 2022 Q1 ER on April 20. Besides the earnings surprise, Elon Musk can also find a way to cause large price movements too. His Twitter poll about whether he should reduce his holdings or not in Nov 2021 serves as an example, causing again about 17% price fluctuations in a day.Such fluctuations are easily 10x more than the average daily fluctuations of QQQ, yet TSLA implied volatility is only about 2x higher than QQQ, as we will see next.Yahoo FinanceDetailed look at the optionsAs of this writing, TSLA’s near-the-money options with a $720 strike with an expiry of 1/20/2023 sell between $133 to $125 for calls and puts as you can see from the chart below provided by OIC. You can also see the implied volatility of about ~63%. Again, to me, this is a sizable underestimate.As of this writing, QQQ’s near-the-money options ($290 strike) with the same expiry sell with an implied volatility of about ~30%. Assuming investors have correctly figured out the implied volatility for QQQ (given its role as a major index), TSLA’s implied volatility is only about 2x higher than QQQ, but its real price fluctuations are much wider, especially during major events like earnings releases as argued above.As a matter of fact, TSLA’s implied volatility does not even capture its historical volatility as you can see from the second chart below. Due to the Musk factor alone, I would assume the options market would at least price its implied volatility on par with its historical volatility. The main considerations are the recovery on the China front and signs that the global supply chain disruptions are easing. For investors who do not want to bet on the direction of the surprises, but only on the magnitude of the surprises, I see an option play as a viable strategy here given the mispricing of its volatility.And finally, risks. Given that this article’s focus itself is on the surprises (codeword for uncertainties/risks), I will not ramble about other risks TSLA is facing anymore. I will just emphasize the risks associated with the use of options here. Options (either calls or puts) can limit risks in terms of the absolute dollar amount. But it is riskier in relative terms because it is a leverage play in essence. To top things off, the COVID-19 pandemic is still ongoing and adversely impacting supply chains globally.</p><p>Yet amid this chaos, investors have developed a case of stock-split euphoria. A stock split is a way for a publicly traded company to alter its share price and outstanding share count without having an effect on its market cap or operating performance. A forward stock split, which is what tends to get investors most excited, reduces the nominal share price of a stock and makes it more affordable for retail investors.</p><p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/e2daa6e9727c19deaf0363e0545334e0\" tg-width=\"700\" tg-height=\"466\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/></p><p>Forward stock splits are almost always viewed as bullish events. The thinking here is that a company wouldn&#39;t need to split in the first place if it wasn&#39;t executing on its growth strategy and hadn&#39;t seen its share price rise as a result.</p><p>But among this veritable sea of stock-split stocks in 2022 stands two widely held companies that are historically cheaper than they&#39;ve ever been and are begging to be bought by patient investors.</p><h2>Alphabet</h2><p>Without question, the no-brainer buy among this year&#39;s stock-split stocks is <b>Alphabet</b>, parent company of internet search engine Google and streaming platform YouTube.</p><p>Alphabet actually kicked off stock-split mania by announcing in February that, with the approval of its shareholders, it would split its shares 20-for-1. The company ultimately gained the requisite approval of its shareholders and began trading at its post-split price on July 18.</p><p>Like most FAANG stocks, Alphabet has been put through the wringer this year. There appears to be growing evidence that a recession is brewing or possibly already here. Since the lion&#39;s share of the company&#39;s sales is derived from advertising, and ad revenue is among the first things to be hit during a recession or economic contraction, there&#39;s genuine worry that Alphabet could be fighting an uphill battle in coming quarters.</p><p>However, analyzing Alphabet&#39;s operating performance over one or two quarters isn&#39;t the correct approach. If investors widen the lens and take into account its numerous sustainable competitive advantages and long-winded growth opportunities, they&#39;d likely realize it&#39;s one of Wall Street&#39;s top bargains.</p><p>Take the company&#39;s foundational internet search engine segment as a perfect example. For the past two years, Google has practically been a monopoly. Data from GlobalStats shows that it&#39;s held between 91% and 93% of global internet search market share. This virtually insurmountable market share lead is what affords the company such impressive ad-pricing power. It also explains why Google has grown by a double-digit annual percentage (save for the initial stages of the COVID-19 pandemic) for two decades.</p><p>There&#39;s also YouTube, which has blossomed into the second most-visited social media site on the planet (2.56 billion monthly active users). Although ad sales have slowed in recent quarters as recession worries mount, YouTube appears to be pacing close to $30 billion in annual ad sales. Additionally, don&#39;t overlook YouTube&#39;s premium subscriptions as a growth driver.</p><p>But it&#39;s Alphabet&#39;s cloud service infrastructure segment, Google Cloud, which is most impressive. Google Cloud is the world&#39;s No. 3 cloud service provider by total revenue, and it&#39;s been consistently growing by 40% to 50% on an annual basis. Although it&#39;s a bottom-line drag for the moment as Alphabet invests aggressively in cloud, it could easily become the company&#39;s leading operating cash flow driver by mid-decade.</p><p>Over the past five years, Alphabet has traded at an average of 26.4 times Wall Street&#39;s forward-year earnings forecast for the company, as well as 19.2 times cash flow. You can pick up shares of Alphabet right now for less than 17 times Wall Street&#39;s forecast earnings for 2023 and less than 9 times forecast cash flow for 2025. It&#39;s a screaming buy at these levels.</p><p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/658dab36fafe7be882565f7cd199cc1b\" tg-width=\"700\" tg-height=\"465\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/></p><h2>Amazon</h2><p>Perhaps unsurprisingly, the second stock-split stock that&#39;s historically cheap and begging to be bought by opportunistic long-term investors is FAANG stock <b>Amazon</b>.</p><p>Amazon rode Alphabet&#39;s coattails and announced its intention to conduct a 20-for-1 forward stock split in March. However, it beat Alphabet to the punch by gaining shareholder approval and executing its split on June 6.</p><p>Consistent with prevailing recessionary fears, Amazon&#39;s shares have come under pressure in 2022. As a company that generates the bulk of its revenue from e-commerce sales, historically high inflation and a potential economic slowdown represent a worrisome combination. It also doesn&#39;t help that retail giant <b>Walmart</b> issued a profit warning following the closing bell on July 25.</p><p>But just as with Alphabet, examining a one- or-two-quarter performance for Amazon won&#39;t tell you a lot about where this company is headed. If you really dig in and look at the big picture, you&#39;ll see a company where practically everything is going right, even in the wake of historically high inflation.</p><p>Most people are familiar with Amazon because of its leading online marketplace. In March, eMarketer released a study estimating that Amazon would collect just shy of 40% of all online retail sales in the U.S. in 2022. By comparison, the company&#39;s 14 closest competitors are only expected to account for 31% of e-commerce sales in the U.S. on a combined basis.</p><p>Yet retail sales are a capital-intensive and generally low-margin segment for Amazon. Though e-commerce is responsible for most of the company&#39;s sales, it&#39;s the ancillary opportunities created from e-commerce, as well as Amazon&#39;s other operating segments, that are key to its success.</p><p>As an example, Amazon&#39;s online marketplace has helped the company sign up more than 200 million Prime members worldwide. That&#39;s tens of billions of dollars in annual fees the company collects from Prime, which it&#39;s able to use to support its vast logistics network, undercut brick-and-mortar retailers on price, or perhaps reinvest in other high-growth initiatives.</p><p>The fascinating aspect about Amazon is that its leading online retail segment could generate no growth or modestly negative growth, and the company&#39;s operating cash flow can still soar. That&#39;s because it&#39;s generating considerably juicier operating margins from advertising, subscriptions, and cloud services.</p><p>Whereas Google Cloud chimes in as the world&#39;s No. 3 cloud-service provider with 8% share, Amazon Web Services (AWS) accounted for 33% of global cloud service sales in the first quarter, according to Canalys. AWS has been growing by 30% to 40% annually. Even though AWS only accounts for roughly an eighth of Amazon&#39;s net sales, it&#39;s consistently been the company&#39;s leading generator of operating income.</p><p>Over the trailing five-year period, Amazon has averaged a multiple of 31.1 times its operating cash flow. This is a premium that Wall Street and investors have been comfortable paying for shares of Amazon since 2010. Yet based on Wall Street&#39;s consensus, Amazon could more than triple its cash flow by 2025 (relative to 2021), and it would be valued at a multiple of 8.6 times cash flow. Consumers are dealing with historically high inflation (9.1% in June 2022), as well as the ripple effects on the energy supply chain of Ukraine war. To top things off, the COVID-19 pandemic is still ongoing and adversely impacting supply chains globally.Yet amid this chaos, investors have developed a case of stock-split euphoria. A stock split is a way for a publicly traded company to alter its share price and outstanding share count without having an effect on its market cap or operating performance. A forward stock split, which is what tends to get investors most excited, reduces the nominal share price of a stock and makes it more affordable for retail investors.Forward stock splits are almost always viewed as bullish events. The thinking here is that a company wouldn't need to split in the first place if it wasn't executing on its growth strategy and hadn't seen its share price rise as a result.But among this veritable sea of stock-split stocks in 2022 stands two widely held companies that are historically cheaper than they've ever been and are begging to be bought by patient investors.AlphabetWithout question, the no-brainer buy among this year's stock-split stocks is Alphabet, parent company of internet search engine Google and streaming platform YouTube.Alphabet actually kicked off stock-split mania by announcing in February that, with the approval of its shareholders, it would split its shares 20-for-1. The company ultimately gained the requisite approval of its shareholders and began trading at its post-split price on July 18.Like most FAANG stocks, Alphabet has been put through the wringer this year. There appears to be growing evidence that a recession is brewing or possibly already here. Since the lion's share of the company's sales is derived from advertising, and ad revenue is among the first things to be hit during a recession or economic contraction, there's genuine worry that Alphabet could be fighting an uphill battle in coming quarters.However, analyzing Alphabet's operating performance over one or two quarters isn't the correct approach. If investors widen the lens and take into account its numerous sustainable competitive advantages and long-winded growth opportunities, they'd likely realize it's one of Wall Street's top bargains.Take the company's foundational internet search engine segment as a perfect example. For the past two years, Google has practically been a monopoly. Data from GlobalStats shows that it's held between 91% and 93% of global internet search market share. This virtually insurmountable market share lead is what affords the company such impressive ad-pricing power. It also explains why Google has grown by a double-digit annual percentage (save for the initial stages of the COVID-19 pandemic) for two decades.There's also YouTube, which has blossomed into the second most-visited social media site on the planet (2.56 billion monthly active users). Although ad sales have slowed in recent quarters as recession worries mount, YouTube appears to be pacing close to $30 billion in annual ad sales. Additionally, don't overlook YouTube's premium subscriptions as a growth driver.But it's Alphabet's cloud service infrastructure segment, Google Cloud, which is most impressive. Google Cloud is the world's No. 3 cloud service provider by total revenue, and it's been consistently growing by 40% to 50% on an annual basis. Although it's a bottom-line drag for the moment as Alphabet invests aggressively in cloud, it could easily become the company's leading operating cash flow driver by mid-decade.Over the past five years, Alphabet has traded at an average of 26.4 times Wall Street's forward-year earnings forecast for the company, as well as 19.2 times cash flow. You can pick up shares of Alphabet right now for less than 17 times Wall Street's forecast earnings for 2023 and less than 9 times forecast cash flow for 2025. It's a screaming buy at these levels.AmazonPerhaps unsurprisingly, the second stock-split stock that's historically cheap and begging to be bought by opportunistic long-term investors is FAANG stock Amazon.Amazon rode Alphabet's coattails and announced its intention to conduct a 20-for-1 forward stock split in March. However, it beat Alphabet to the punch by gaining shareholder approval and executing its split on June 6.Consistent with prevailing recessionary fears, Amazon's shares have come under pressure in 2022. As a company that generates the bulk of its revenue from e-commerce sales, historically high inflation and a potential economic slowdown represent a worrisome combination. It also doesn't help that retail giant Walmart issued a profit warning following the closing bell on July 25.But just as with Alphabet, examining a one- or-two-quarter performance for Amazon won't tell you a lot about where this company is headed. If you really dig in and look at the big picture, you'll see a company where practically everything is going right, even in the wake of historically high inflation.Most people are familiar with Amazon because of its leading online marketplace. In March, eMarketer released a study estimating that Amazon would collect just shy of 40% of all online retail sales in the U.S. in 2022. By comparison, the company's 14 closest competitors are only expected to account for 31% of e-commerce sales in the U.S. on a combined basis.Yet retail sales are a capital-intensive and generally low-margin segment for Amazon. Though e-commerce is responsible for most of the company's sales, it's the ancillary opportunities created from e-commerce, as well as Amazon's other operating segments, that are key to its success.As an example, Amazon's online marketplace has helped the company sign up more than 200 million Prime members worldwide. That's tens of billions of dollars in annual fees the company collects from Prime, which it's able to use to support its vast logistics network, undercut brick-and-mortar retailers on price, or perhaps reinvest in other high-growth initiatives.The fascinating aspect about Amazon is that its leading online retail segment could generate no growth or modestly negative growth, and the company's operating cash flow can still soar. That's because it's generating considerably juicier operating margins from advertising, subscriptions, and cloud services.Whereas Google Cloud chimes in as the world's No. 3 cloud-service provider with 8% share, Amazon Web Services (AWS) accounted for 33% of global cloud service sales in the first quarter, according to Canalys. AWS has been growing by 30% to 40% annually. Even though AWS only accounts for roughly an eighth of Amazon's net sales, it's consistently been the company's leading generator of operating income.Over the trailing five-year period, Amazon has averaged a multiple of 31.1 times its operating cash flow. This is a premium that Wall Street and investors have been comfortable paying for shares of Amazon since 2010. Yet based on Wall Street's consensus, Amazon could more than triple its cash flow by 2025 (relative to 2021), and it would be valued at a multiple of 8.6 times cash flow. In other words, software.</p><p>This year&#39;s keynote was a bit different: It also had hardware.</p><p>No, there wasn&#39;t any mention of the hotly anticipated virtual-reality headset at the Monday keynote, which was pretaped but shown to an in-person audience of media and developers at the company&#39;s Cupertino, Calif., headquarters. Nor was there any mention of the next iPhone, which will likely come in September. However, Apple unveiled its latest processor, the M2, and with it a revamped MacBook Air and an upgraded MacBook Pro.</p><p>Of course, most of the screen time dwelt on iOS 16, iPad OS 16, WatchOS 9 and MacOS Ventura, the updates expected to be free this fall. Free for those of you with supported devices, that is. (Sorry iPhone 7 users, you didn&#39;t make the cut.)  Here are the most noteworthy hardware and software highlights from the event.</p><h2>New MacBook Air and Pro</h2><h2><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/96b58e849a547df005ccbdaf9115270d\" tg-width=\"699\" tg-height=\"466\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/></h2><p>The MacBook Air got a new look and the more powerful, battery-efficient M2 chip. It ditches the classic Air wedge for all straight edges, and there&#39;s a new deep-blue color option. One feature that made me double take: The MagSafe charging cable is back. So if you trip on your power cord, that detaches without taking your whole laptop with it.</p><p>It has a larger 13.6-inch display, up from 13.3 inches. It also has an improved 1080p webcam, up from 720p, surrounded by a notch reminiscent of the latest iPhones. It&#39;s a touch thinner and lighter, though the overall footprint is just slightly larger. (We&#39;re talking millimeters here.)</p><p>The new MacBook Air starts at $1,199 -- a $200 price hike. A 30-watt brick is included with the base configuration, but if you pay $20 extra, or choose a pricier configuration, you can get it with either a new 35-watt compact adapter option with two USB-C ports or a 67-watt adapter. Both will also be sold separately for $59.</p><p>The 13-inch MacBook Pro is getting a processor bump to the M2, but remains relatively unchanged beyond that. It starts at $1,299. Apple said both laptops will be available next month.</p><h2>iOS 16</h2><h2><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/9a060b37a5a22b6c035c0721c38eb9fc\" tg-width=\"573\" tg-height=\"382\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/></h2><p>Come this fall, you&#39;ll be able to edit and recall sent messages in the Messages app. The functionality will be available for 15 minutes after you send it. And if you&#39;re overloaded with messages and want to revisit any, you&#39;ll be able to mark them as unread, like an email.</p><p>The Fitness app, previously reserved for Apple Watch users, will be available to everyone. The iPhone&#39;s motion sensors, which already estimate your steps and distance for the Health app, will show that data in the Fitness app, alongside workouts from third-party apps such as Strava.</p><p>Your lock screen -- the screen you see when you&#39;re checking the time a hundred times a day -- is about to get fancier. Android phones have long had custom lockscreens and were once the object of iPhoners&#39; (read: my) envy. At last, iPhones will show calendar events, weather and other customizable information at a glance, without you needing to unlock the device. You can also personalize the font and color of the clock. You can set up multiple lock screens and associate them with different Focus Modes, a suite of complicated but useful custom Do Not Disturb settings.</p><p>In iOS 16, you&#39;ll be able to dictate with your voice and edit the text with the touch screen simultaneously, by selecting text with your finger then speaking new words, for example.</p><p>Apple redesigned the way parents can set age restrictions on their kids&#39; content, making it easier to do more. Another parental control change: Screen-time requests can be granted or denied right from the Messages app.</p><p>In the Photos app, families will be able to create shared libraries. For instance, all the pictures everyone takes on a family vacation can be shared either voluntarily or automatically based on your preferences.</p><p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/ef85d1d621a107db1d76f412d1a2acb9\" tg-width=\"700\" tg-height=\"394\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/></p><p>I wish my car had CarPlay, Apple&#39;s iPhone-friendly, in-vehicle infotainment system. Now that Apple teased the next generation of CarPlay, I&#39;m thinking about holding off on my next vehicle purchase. It&#39;s a full Apple takeover of the dashboard, so you get speed and other standard instrument data superimposed on top of turn-by-turn directions. And while Apple listed partners including Ford, Honda and Volvo, the company said vehicle announcements aren&#39;t due until late 2023.</p><h2>MacOS Ventura</h2><p>Your iPhone&#39;s high-resolution camera can become your next Mac webcam with what&#39;s called Continuity Camera. I&#39;ve used an app called Reincubate Camo to do the same thing, but the native Mac version will have more bells and whistles. The software automatically keeps your video in frame as you move, blurs your background and applies lighting features to brighten the image.</p><p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/f57b0b0b1e92585d6828cb2b32329112\" tg-width=\"699\" tg-height=\"466\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/></p><p>Desk View shows a second angle, a birds-eye view of your desk for demos, by just using the iPhone&#39;s ultrawide-angle camera and image processing. (Before deploying this feature, make sure there&#39;s nothing on your desk you wouldn&#39;t want colleagues to see.) Apple says it&#39;s working with Belkin to create mounts, due later this year, for perching an iPhone on a MacBook&#39;s open top.</p><p>Passwords are out, passkeys are in. Safari will support passkeys, which use the biometric sensors in your device to authenticate logins. That means no passwords to remember or store in a password manager. You just need the device that&#39;s on you. Apple is working to make passkeys compatible with online services by way of the FIDO Alliance, an industry group, so it&#39;s likely other devices and operating systems will follow suit. It&#39;s a big step toward a password-less future.</p><h2>iPadOS 16</h2><h2><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/a01fa909228a1e6e8fc0cd048cbf66d9\" tg-width=\"700\" tg-height=\"394\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/></h2><p>As a longtime iPad-as-computer person, I have been waiting for this software update. I have spent years mastering the iPad&#39;s many complicated multitasking gestures, but now they may not be necessary.</p><p>With iPadOS 16, the tablet will behave more like a Mac. The windows of different applications overlap, and you can resize them freely, instead of using Apple&#39;s predetermined proportions. For iPads with the M1 chip, there&#39;s even full external display support. With a monitor connected, those tablets will be able to run up to eight apps simultaneously. When you lump in past additions such as mouse support, you can finally see iPads becoming &#34;real&#34; computers. (But I&#39;ll test this in the fall to make sure.)</p><h2>WatchOS 9</h2><h2><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/a2453a4489c8ac0a1407b47c1b14940b\" tg-width=\"639\" tg-height=\"639\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"/></h2><p>There are a slew of new health and fitness features for the watch.</p><p>A feature to help remind you to take and log medications will be built into the Apple Watch with WatchOS 9, and it will also be in the Health app on the iPhone with iOS 16. You can share the medication log with family members, and the app can note any potentially dangerous interactions between the medications, supplements and vitamins you&#39;re taking. Snap a picture of the medication&#39;s label with an iPhone to automatically add it to the app.</p><p>Sleep tracking can sometimes hurt more than it helps, but for those who do like a record of their good night&#39;s rest, or lack thereof, the watch will show time spent in different sleep stages.</p><p>While working out, you will get a new heart-rate zone view to gauge intensity level. Runners can see their vertical oscillation, stride length or ground contact time metrics, and both runners and cyclists can compare current and past performance on the same route. A new multisport workout mode that automatically transitions between swim, bike and run will be available.</p><p>Finally, for swimmers, the Apple Watch has long been kickboard-challenged because wrists are stationary while kicking. It ditches the classic Air wedge for all straight edges, and there&#39;s a new deep-blue color option. One feature that made me double take: The MagSafe charging cable is back. So if you trip on your power cord, that detaches without taking your whole laptop with it.</p><p>It has a larger 13.6-inch display, up from 13.3 inches. It also has an improved 1080p webcam, up from 720p, surrounded by a notch reminiscent of the latest iPhones. It&#39;s a touch thinner and lighter, though the overall footprint is just slightly larger. (We&#39;re talking millimeters here.)</p><p>The new MacBook Air starts at $1,199 -- a $200 price hike. A 30-watt brick is included with the base configuration, but if you pay $20 extra, or choose a pricier configuration, you can get it with either a new 35-watt compact adapter option with two USB-C ports or a 67-watt adapter. Both will also be sold separately for $59.</p><p>The 13-inch MacBook Pro is getting a processor bump to the M2, but remains relatively unchanged beyond that. It starts at $1,299. And if you&#39;re overloaded with messages and want to revisit any, you&#39;ll be able to mark them as unread, like an email.</p><p>The Fitness app, previously reserved for Apple Watch users, will be available to everyone. The iPhone&#39;s motion sensors, which already estimate your steps and distance for the Health app, will show that data in the Fitness app, alongside workouts from third-party apps such as Strava.</p><p>Your lock screen -- the screen you see when you&#39;re checking the time a hundred times a day -- is about to get fancier. Android phones have long had custom lockscreens and were once the object of iPhoners&#39; (read: my) envy. At last, iPhones will show calendar events, weather and other customizable information at a glance, without you needing to unlock the device. You can also personalize the font and color of the clock. You can set up multiple lock screens and associate them with different Focus Modes, a suite of complicated but useful custom Do Not Disturb settings.</p><p>In iOS 16, you&#39;ll be able to dictate with your voice and edit the text with the touch screen simultaneously, by selecting text with your finger then speaking new words, for example.</p><p>Apple redesigned the way parents can set age restrictions on their kids&#39; content, making it easier to do more. Another parental control change: Screen-time requests can be granted or denied right from the Messages app.</p><p>In the Photos app, families will be able to create shared libraries. It&#39;s a full Apple takeover of the dashboard, so you get speed and other standard instrument data superimposed on top of turn-by-turn directions. And while Apple listed partners including Ford, Honda and Volvo, the company said vehicle announcements aren&#39;t due until late 2023.</p><h2>MacOS Ventura</h2><p>Your iPhone&#39;s high-resolution camera can become your next Mac webcam with what&#39;s called Continuity Camera. I&#39;ve used an app called Reincubate Camo to do the same thing, but the native Mac version will have more bells and whistles. The software automatically keeps your video in frame as you move, blurs your background and applies lighting features to brighten the image.</p><p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/f57b0b0b1e92585d6828cb2b32329112\" tg-width=\"699\" tg-height=\"466\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/></p><p>Desk View shows a second angle, a birds-eye view of your desk for demos, by just using the iPhone&#39;s ultrawide-angle camera and image processing. Apple says it&#39;s working with Belkin to create mounts, due later this year, for perching an iPhone on a MacBook&#39;s open top.</p><p>Passwords are out, passkeys are in. Safari will support passkeys, which use the biometric sensors in your device to authenticate logins. That means no passwords to remember or store in a password manager. You just need the device that&#39;s on you. Apple is working to make passkeys compatible with online services by way of the FIDO Alliance, an industry group, so it&#39;s likely other devices and operating systems will follow suit.
