In the past three decades, just 1.5% of companies accounted for all the wealth created in the global stock market, BofA said, citing astudyfrom Hendrik Bessembinder, an Arizona State University professor.
\n
Meanwhile, incumbents are displaced at a faster rate because of accelerating innovations. Take the life span of S&P 500 companies for instance. In 1958, the average company lasted 61 years. That has shortened to 24 years by 2016 and is expected to be halved to just 12 years by 2027, BofA data show.
\n
The firm’s predictions come amid a growing appetite for thematic investing that focuses on understandable and relatable narratives. Led by Cathie Wood’s Ark Investment Management’s products, exchange-traded funds based on a market niche have attracted $42 billion of fresh money this year -- surpassing the total inflows for the whole year of 2020, data compiled by Bloomberg Intelligence show.
\n
Investing in early innovators often requires a strong stomach for losses, both in terms of the bottom line and stock performance. For instance, a Goldman Sachs Group Inc. basket of non-profitable tech firms in innovative industries tumbled almost 40% earlier this year and has yet to recoup half of the losses. And certainly, not everyone will be able to succeed.
\n
To BofA’s Israel, the reward from investing in the stars of tomorrow isn’t insignificant. In the past three decades, just 1.5% of companies accounted for all the wealth created in the global stock market, BofA said, citing astudyfrom Hendrik Bessembinder, an Arizona State University professor.\nMeanwhile, incumbents are displaced at a faster rate because of accelerating innovations. Take the life span of S&P 500 companies for instance. In 1958, the average company lasted 61 years. That has shortened to 24 years by 2016 and is expected to be halved to just 12 years by 2027, BofA data show.\nThe firm’s predictions come amid a growing appetite for thematic investing that focuses on understandable and relatable narratives. Led by Cathie Wood’s Ark Investment Management’s products, exchange-traded funds based on a market niche have attracted $42 billion of fresh money this year -- surpassing the total inflows for the whole year of 2020, data compiled by Bloomberg Intelligence show.\nInvesting in early innovators often requires a strong stomach for losses, both in terms of the bottom line and stock performance. For instance, a Goldman Sachs Group Inc. basket of non-profitable tech firms in innovative industries tumbled almost 40% earlier this year and has yet to recoup half of the losses. And certainly, not everyone will be able to succeed.\nTo BofA’s Israel, the reward from investing in the stars of tomorrow isn’t insignificant. By his team’s estimate, the 14 technologies highlighted for the future currently represent only $330 billion in market size. Combined, they could increase 36% a year to $6.4 trillion by the 2030s. As per the blog release, Coinbase Pro clients will gain access to multiple trading pairs, including DOT/BTC, DOT/USD, DOT/GBP, DOT/USDT, and DOT/EUR once the required liquidity is achieved. (See Coinbase Stock Chart on TipRanks)\nThese trading pairs will launch in three phases with Coinbase Pro continually assessing market trends: post-only, limit-only, and full trading. Coinbase officials added, “If at any point one of the new order books does not meet our assessment for a healthy and orderly market, we may keep the book in one state for a longer period of time or suspend trading as per our Trading Rules. We will publish tweets from our Coinbase Pro Twitter account as each order book moves through the phases.”\nThe DOT token isn’t currently available on Coinbase’s mobile app or its website, although the exchange has reassured users that any plan to add DOT will be announced, if and when the feature is enabled outside Coinbase Pro. The platform has also clarified that DOT will be available for clients in all countries where the exchange is licensed to operate, except for Singapore.\nCoinbase Pro currently supports 50 cryptocurrencies, including 1inch (1INCH), Ankr (ANKR), Ampleforth Governance Token (FORTH), Cardano (ADA), Cartesi (CTSI), Curve DAO Token (CRV), Dogecoin (DOGE), Enjin Coin (ENJ), iExec (RLC), Internet Computer (ICP), Mirror Protocol (MIR), NKN (NKN), Origin Token (OGN), Polygon (MATIC), SKALE (SKL), Storj (STORJ), SushiSwap (SUSHI), Tellor (TRB), Tether (USDT), and more.\nPolkadot, an open-source project associated with the Web3 Foundation, enables cross-blockchain transfers of any type of data or asset. Additionally, the holders of DOT tokens perform several key functions within the Polkadot ecosystem, including acting as validators, collators, nominators, and participating in the decision-making process for Polkadot’s future upgrades and changes.\nThe Polkadot (DOT) listing on Coinbase Pro comes as a huge boost for the fast-rising DOT token. The camera on the front will likely be used for video calls, while the rear camera can be detached to capture photos and videos for Facebook's family of apps.
\n
Facebook is also reportedly in talks with companies to develop accessories for attaching the camera to backpacks and other objects. Previous rumors regarding the watch suggested it will sport health-tracking features, run on a stand-alone cellular connection, and use a custom version of the Android operating system. Could this long-rumored device help Facebook challenge Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) in the smartwatch market?
\n
Why is Facebook developing a smartwatch?
\n
Facebook generated 97% of its revenue from ads last quarter. The remaining 3% came from its \"other\" businesses, which include its Oculus virtual reality (VR) headsets and Portal smart screens. It might initially seem odd for Facebook to add a smartwatch to that lineup, but it would actually complement its previous hardware strategies.
\n
Facebook's strongest hardware business is its lineup of Oculus VR headsets. It could ship at least three million Oculus Quest 2 headsets this year, according to SuperData. That would make the stand-alone VR headset, which doesn't require a PC or phone, the clear leader of its niche market.
\n
Looking beyond VR devices, Facebook is developing augmented reality (AR) glasses that will use similar controls as its Oculus headsets. It also acquired CTRL-Labs, which is developing a wristband that can use brain signals to control computers, in late 2019. In theory, CTRL-Labs' technology could eventually enable users to control VR and AR devices with \"mind-reading\" wristbands instead of controllers in the future.
\n
Meanwhile, Facebook's Portal devices haven't gained much momentum against Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) or Alphabet's (NASDAQ:GOOGL) (NASDAQ:GOOG) Google in the smart screen market. That failure likely dashed Facebook's hopes of expanding its social networking platforms beyond PCs and phones and into connected homes.
\n
When you put all those pieces together, you'll realize Facebook's smartwatch could be used to enhance control of its VR and AR devices, or to expand its social networks into the Internet of Things (IoT) and perhaps succeed where the Portal failed. Facebook could also eventually upgrade its watches with CTRL-Labs' technologies and enable users to control other IoT devices with their minds.
\n
But let's not get ahead of ourselves... yet
\n
Facebook has reportedly spent about $1 billion on the development of its smartwatch over the past few years, but it only initially plans to ship volumes in the low six figures.
\n
That would make Facebook a tiny smartwatch maker compared to Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL), which grew its Apple Watch shipments 19% to 33.9 million in 2020, according to Counterpoint Research. The camera on the front will likely be used for video calls, while the rear camera can be detached to capture photos and videos for Facebook's family of apps.\nFacebook is also reportedly in talks with companies to develop accessories for attaching the camera to backpacks and other objects. Previous rumors regarding the watch suggested it will sport health-tracking features, run on a stand-alone cellular connection, and use a custom version of the Android operating system. Could this long-rumored device help Facebook challenge Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) in the smartwatch market?\nWhy is Facebook developing a smartwatch?\nFacebook generated 97% of its revenue from ads last quarter. The remaining 3% came from its \"other\" businesses, which include its Oculus virtual reality (VR) headsets and Portal smart screens. It might initially seem odd for Facebook to add a smartwatch to that lineup, but it would actually complement its previous hardware strategies.\nFacebook's strongest hardware business is its lineup of Oculus VR headsets. It could ship at least three million Oculus Quest 2 headsets this year, according to SuperData. That would make the stand-alone VR headset, which doesn't require a PC or phone, the clear leader of its niche market.\nLooking beyond VR devices, Facebook is developing augmented reality (AR) glasses that will use similar controls as its Oculus headsets. It also acquired CTRL-Labs, which is developing a wristband that can use brain signals to control computers, in late 2019. In theory, CTRL-Labs' technology could eventually enable users to control VR and AR devices with \"mind-reading\" wristbands instead of controllers in the future.\nMeanwhile, Facebook's Portal devices haven't gained much momentum against Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) or Alphabet's (NASDAQ:GOOGL) (NASDAQ:GOOG) Google in the smart screen market. That failure likely dashed Facebook's hopes of expanding its social networking platforms beyond PCs and phones and into connected homes.\nWhen you put all those pieces together, you'll realize Facebook's smartwatch could be used to enhance control of its VR and AR devices, or to expand its social networks into the Internet of Things (IoT) and perhaps succeed where the Portal failed. Facebook could also eventually upgrade its watches with CTRL-Labs' technologies and enable users to control other IoT devices with their minds.\nBut let's not get ahead of ourselves... yet\nFacebook has reportedly spent about $1 billion on the development of its smartwatch over the past few years, but it only initially plans to ship volumes in the low six figures.\nThat would make Facebook a tiny smartwatch maker compared to Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL), which grew its Apple Watch shipments 19% to 33.9 million in 2020, according to Counterpoint Research. Apple ended the year with a whopping 40% share of the global smartwatch market.\nFacebook likely realizes its smartwatch will face the same three problems that plagued the Portal: a deep distrust of Facebook's brand, privacy concerns, and its late arrival into a saturated market.
By his team’s estimate, the 14 technologies highlighted for the future currently represent only $330 billion in market size. Combined, they could increase 36% a year to $6.4 trillion by the 2030s. For context, profits from S&P 500 companies have grown 6% a year historically.
\n
“These moonshots could transform and disrupt multiple industries, contributing to the next big cycle of technology-driven growth,” the strategists wrote.
\n
Below is a list of the potential future technologies:
\n
\n
6G telecom networks
\n
Emotional artificial intelligence
\n
Brain computer interfaces
\n
Bionic humans
\n
Immortality
\n
Synthetic biology
\n
Wireless electricity
\n
Holograms
\n
Metaverse
\n
Electric vertical takeoff and landing flying cars
\n
Oceantech
\n
Next generation batteries
\n
Green mining
\n
Carbon capture and storage
\n
","source":"yahoofinance","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; That has shortened to 24 years by 2016 and is expected to be halved to just 12 years by 2027, BofA data show.\nThe firm’s predictions come amid a growing appetite for thematic investing that focuses on understandable and relatable narratives. For context, profits from S&P 500 companies have grown 6% a year historically.\n“These moonshots could transform and disrupt multiple industries, contributing to the next big cycle of technology-driven growth,” the strategists wrote.\nBelow is a list of the potential future technologies:\n\n6G telecom networks\nEmotional artificial intelligence\nBrain computer interfaces\nBionic humans\nImmortality\nSynthetic biology\nWireless electricity\nHolograms\nMetaverse\nElectric vertical takeoff and landing flying cars\nOceantech\nNext generation batteries\nGreen mining\nCarbon capture and storage","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":354,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9010484224,"gmtCreate":1648450064419,"gmtModify":1676534339306,"author":{"id":"3557404516966905","authorId":"3557404516966905","name":"AhJeck","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/7260110003a7eaa68a8a67f04bd6ee81","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3557404516966905","authorIdStr":"3557404516966905"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$SEMBCORP MARINE LTD(S51.SI)$ read from the forum that investors are looking forward om the merging news again. Shares of Morgan Stanley popped almost 4% in after-hours trading.\n\"Morgan Stanley has accumulated significant excess capital over the past several years and now has one of the largest capital buffers in the industry,\" CEO James Gorman said in the release. \"The action taken by the Board reflects a decision to reset our capital base consistent with the needs we have for our transformed business model.\"\nMorgan Stanley's new capital plan appeared to be among the most aggressive of the banks rushing to announce at the market close. Larger rival JPMorgan Chase boosted its dividend by 11% to $1 per share, according to the bank. JPMorgan said it \"continues to be authorized\" to tap an existing share repurchase plan.\nBank of America said its dividend would rise 17% to 21 cents. In April, the bank announced a $25 billion share repurchase plan.Goldman Sachssaid it planned on boosting its dividend by 60% to $2 per share, subject to approval from the bank's board.\nWells Fargo said it plans on doubling its dividend to 20 cents a shares, subject to board approval. It also announced an $18 billion stock repurchase plan beginning in the third quarter. The firm's dividend increase was widely expected by analysts because it was one of the only banks forced to slash its payout after last year's stress test.\nMeanwhile,Citi group released a statement from CEOJane Fraserthat did not commit to any specific increases. Unlike the other firms, Citi also said its stress capital buffer requirement will increase this year, which may have reduced its ability to boost capital return. Shares of the bank dipped almost 1%.\n\"We look forward to continuing with our planned capital actions, including common dividends of at least $0.51 per share, and to continuing share repurchases, which are particularly attractive when our stock price is below tangible book value per share,\" Fraser said in the statement.\nLast week, the Federal Reserve announced that all 23 banks that took the 2021 stress test passed, with the industry \"well above\" required capital levels in a hypothetical economic downturn. While the institutions would post $474 billion in losses in this scenario, loss-cushioning capital would still be more than double the minimum required levels.\nThe test was a key milestone for American banks, coming in the year after a global pandemic threatened to put the industry through a real-life stress test. After playing a key role in the 2008 financial crisis, banks were forced to undergo the annual ritual, and had to ask regulators for permission to boost dividends and repurchase shares.\nNow banks reclaim flexibility in how they choose to dole out capital in the form of dividends and buybacks. As long as they maintain capital levels above something called the stress capital buffer, banks can make more of their own decisions. The new regime was supposed to start last year, but the pandemic intervened.\nWhile analysts have said bank investors havemostly factoredin higher payouts from banks, bigger-than-expected capital plans were still viewed favorably.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":209,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":269705403781296,"gmtCreate":1706854995591,"gmtModify":1706854998590,"author":{"id":"3557404516966905","authorId":"3557404516966905","name":"AhJeck","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/7260110003a7eaa68a8a67f04bd6ee81","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3557404516966905","authorIdStr":"3557404516966905"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"$SEMBCORP INDUSTRIES LTD(U96.SI)$ gogogo","listText":"$SEMBCORP INDUSTRIES LTD(U96.SI)$ gogogo","text":"$SEMBCORP INDUSTRIES LTD(U96.SI)$ gogogo","images":[{"img":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/a552c6711c9501a9091f6c37f2ea5dd9","width":"982","height":"1776"}],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/269705403781296","isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":125,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":1,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":121508667,"gmtCreate":1624469462659,"gmtModify":1703837785133,"author":{"id":"3557404516966905","authorId":"3557404516966905","name":"AhJeck","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/7260110003a7eaa68a8a67f04bd6ee81","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3557404516966905","authorIdStr":"3557404516966905"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Wow... The ecosystem is designed to give consumers the ability to interoperate with other blockchains in the Polkadot network.\nThe DOT token powers the Polkadot network, serving the purposes of governance, staking, and bonding. At the time of writing, DOT tokens traded at $24.67, exhibiting a 24-hour volume of $3.13 billion.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":301,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":163104617,"gmtCreate":1623861304239,"gmtModify":1703821879080,"author":{"id":"3557404516966905","authorId":"3557404516966905","name":"AhJeck","avatar":"https://community-static.tradeup.com/news/7260110003a7eaa68a8a67f04bd6ee81","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":1,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3557404516966905","authorIdStr":"3557404516966905"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Who want a facebook watch?
Earnings go up, price stays the same, the PE rises. It’s math.
\n
I don’t question that big tech stocks have been overpriced. As profits return to other sectors of the economy, to travel and retail, to industrials and materials, investors will continue to rebalance portfolios.
