Bloomberg report that, China considers turning tutoring companies into Non-Profits.\n\nChina is considering asking companies that offer tutoring on the school curriculum to go non-profit, according to people familiar with the matter, as part of a sweeping set of constraints that could decimate the country’s $100 billion education tech industry.\nIn rules currently being mulled, the platforms will likely no longer be allowed to raise capital or go public, the people said, asking to not be identified because the information is not public. Listed firms will also probably no longer be allowed to invest in or acquire education firms teaching school subjects while foreign capital will also be barred from the sector, one of the people said.\nLocal regulators will stop approving new after-school education firms seeking to offer tutoring on China’s compulsory syllabus and require extra scrutiny of existing online platforms, the people said. Vacation and weekend tutoring on school subjects will also be banned, they said. Changes may still occur as the rules haven’t been published. The 21st Century Business Herald earlier reported the bans on IPOs and investments by listed firms.\nThe new set of regulations, devised and overseen by a dedicated branch set up just last month to regulate the industry, could wipe out the enormous growth that made stock market darlings of TAL Education Group and Gaotu Techedu Inc. The regulatory assault mirrors a broader campaign against the growing heft of Chinese internet companies from Didi Global Inc. to Alibaba Group Holding Ltd.\n“Making the sector non-profit is just as good as eradicating the industry all together,” said Wu Yuefeng, a fund manager at Funding Capital Management (Beijing) Co. “The regulations on financing are a major surprise and shows that to the authorities, this is a matter of no small importance. In the short term for the sector, any news will be bad news.”\nNew Oriental Education & Technology Group sank as much as 50% in Hong Kong Friday, while Koolearn Technology Holding Ltd. tumbled 31%.\nBeijing is coming down hard on the sector as excessive tutoring anguishes young pupils and burdens parents with expensive tutoring fees. It’s also regarded as an impediment to one of the country’s top priorities, boosting a declining birth rate. Last month, China said it will allow a couple to have three children and released a slew of support measures to encourage births and lower child expenses.\nMaking the whole sector go non-profit “would make being a listed entity meaningless,” said Justin Tang, head of Asian research at United First Partners. “Investors are selling out first and asking questions later. It’s all being done to reduce cost of education and motivate citizens to raise kids.”\nEducation technology had emerged as one of the hottest investment plays in China in recent years, with $10 billion of venture capital money pouring into the sector last year alone. Alibaba, Tencent Holdings Ltd. and ByteDance Ltd. all entered the arena, seeking to capitalize on Chinese parents’ desires to give their children every academic advantage. A spokesman from the education ministry said relevant polices are still being formulated and declined to provide more details.\nBeijing is taking issue with for-profit companies for stressing out kids while enriching investors and startup founders. In May, President Xi Jinping chaired a meeting with top officials where they approved a new set of rules to ease the burden of homework and after-school training for primary and secondary school students.\nLast month, China’s education ministry created a dedicated division to oversee all private education platforms for the first time. That followed a plethora of restrictions, including caps on fees firms can charge and time limits on after-school programs. Regulators have fined two of the biggest startups for false advertising: Alibaba-backed Zuoyebang and Tencent-investee Yuanfudao. A new law on minor protection, which went into effect June 1, also bans kindergarten and private institutions from teaching the primary-school curriculum to pre-schoolers -- not uncommon previously.\nSeveral high-profile startups in the sector -- including Yuanfudao, which at $15.5 billion is the most valuable of the lot -- are likely to have to put initial public offering plans on hold because of the crackdown.\nShares of China’s largest private education companies are among the world’s worst performers in recent months, with New Oriental Education, TAL Education and Gaotu Techedu together shedding nearly $100 billion of value from their highs reached earlier this year.\nGaotu, New Oriental, Zuoyebang, Yuanfudao and TAL didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":330,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9083176144,"gmtCreate":1650084033061,"gmtModify":1676534644754,"author":{"id":"3558673211102792","authorId":"3558673211102792","name":"Bankai","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/c7e0e10df42a0abec55080b7e549ec86","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3558673211102792","authorIdStr":"3558673211102792"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Shopify has great potential with its split news","listText":"Shopify has great potential with its split news","text":"Shopify has great potential with its split news","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":3,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/9083176144","repostId":"2227607209","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"2227607209","kind":"highlight","pubTimestamp":1650066145,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/2227607209?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2022-04-16 07:42","market":"us","language":"en","title":"3 Risky Stocks With Huge Potential Upside","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=2227607209","media":"Motley Fool","summary":"Why risk-tolerant investors want to own Shopify, Silvergate Capital, and Pieris Pharmaceuticals.","content":"

Many people only want to own "safe," "mature," or "boring" stocks, and they ignore the opportunities in the risky side of the stock universe. And it often fails, miserably. That's why these stocks can be so incredibly volatile. But if you can withstand the volatility, small investments in risky equities can reward you greatly. Here's why risk-tolerant investors might want to consider shares of Pieris Pharmaceuticals ( PIRS), Silvergate Capital ( SI ), and Shopify ( SHOP ).

1. Shopify is somewhat risky

Shopify is my favorite stock. It's a no-brainer. The company has 63% profit margins, and revenues are jumping 41%. I've been in love with Shopify since Amazon ( AMZN -2.46% ) tried to compete with them -- and gave up. Shopify is the back-end solution that every mom-and-pop retailer who wants to engage in internet commerce needs.

What's the risk to buying Shopify? The stock might get cheaper in the short term. So the risk here is a valuation risk. Shopify trades for 26 times its earnings. A year ago the company was trading for 400 times its earnings. So right now the market is incredibly negative on Shopify. The stock is down 63% in five months. That's a crash, my friends.

SHOP data by YCharts

One "red flag" for Shopify is that the company is investing aggressively in its business, building out warehouses so that internet retailers can subscribe to its offerings and provide Amazon-like service. The internet transformation of our economy is the major trend of my investing lifetime.

While Shopify's profit margins will likely take a hit over the next few years, it should cement its lead in this space, giving the company a powerful advantage as its technology becomes more and more essential in internet commerce. Don't worry about the volatility. This is an amazing business, and it's on sale right now.

2. Silvergate Capital is risky

Silvergate Capital, like Shopify, is a very profitable company. This is surprising. Often, if a company is growing revenues by 85% from a year ago, you might expect it to be spending money hand over fist in order to achieve that speed. For instance, Snowflake has no profits, MongoDB has no profits, and Okta has no profits.

Yet, here is Silvergate Capital with 45% profit margins. Silvergate pulls this off because it's not a tech stock but a fintech stock with an emphasis on "financial." Silvergate Capital is a bank. Many years ago, Silvergate made a risky bet on a new phenomenon called cryptocurrency. The bank wanted to land the new crypto-trading exchanges like Coinbase and Gemini as clients of the bank. So Silvergate tried to solve the pain points these exchanges were having.

Specifically, crypto trades 24/7. And yet at the time, no banking system could keep up with that schedule. So Silvergate invested in and built out the Silvergate Exchange Network (SEN), a private exchange that allows for bank transfers of dollars regardless of the time of day.

This gamble paid off. The SEN was a huge hit. As Bitcoin ( BTC 1.35% ) and other cryptocurrencies skyrocketed, more and more of these exchanges needed a banking partner. Demand was so high that Silvergate ultimately closed down its traditional banking business and focused on this new crypto market. At the end of 2021, Silvergate had 1,381 banking clients that were made up of the crypto-trading exchanges and institutions interested in this new asset class. Silvergate also had $14.3 billion in deposits, up from $5.2 billion from the prior year.

In my opinion, the risk for Silvergate from larger banks is minimal. It's in the catbird seat right now and has earned the trust of its banking clients over almost a decade of service. So what makes this a risky stock? At a macro level, we don't know what will happen with the crypto universe and how big (or how small) it might become. So that risk remains. But if you want to minimize your risk while profiting from the rise of crypto, Silvergate is arguably the best place to start.

3. Pieris Pharma is super risky

Unlike Shopify and Silvergate, Pieris has no earnings. It's a biotech without any drugs on the market. This is actually common in the biotech universe, particularly among small-caps and micro-caps. Every year it seems like the biggest loser in my stock portfolio on a percentage basis is a biotech with bad news.

So why invest here? Well, sometimes a calculated risk pays off, like my investment in Novavax ( NVAX -5.82% ) at $7 (and a double-down at $4). That biotech went on to spike to $330 a share. I'm invested in Pieris in an attempt to duplicate my Novavax success. Pieris, like Novavax in 2019, is a stock that could go to nothing. So my investment here is tiny (under 1% of my investing assets). But the potential upside is vast.

Pieris owns the rights to an entire new class of pharmaceuticals called Anticalins. These are protein therapeutics that are similar to antibodies, but eight times smaller -- so they can go places antibodies can't reach. For instance, Pieris has an asthma drug candidate that's similar to an antibody treatment. But since it's so tiny, the Pieris molecule can reach the lung directly -- something antibodies can't do.

Pieris has collaboration agreements with Roche, AstraZeneca ( AZN 0.12% ), and Seagen ( SGEN 1.55% ). And those drug companies have made upfront payments to Pieris to acquire rights in some of the biotech's most advanced drugs. Big Pharma is paying for the early clinical trials, and if the drugs achieve certain milestones, the payouts increase.

If Pieris hits all of the milestones in these three contracts, the company will have a windfall of $8 billion. For a tiny micro-cap, that's a huge upside. (And that doesn't include any future royalty payments.) But what's really exciting is that Pieris owns the entire library of Anticalin molecules, 100 billion of them. If any of these molecules are successful, then we might see Anticalins start to take a significant chunk of the antibody market (roughly a $145 billion market).

Right now, the stock market is assuming Pieris' drugs will fail. So the biotech has a minuscule market cap of $229 million. But what if the biotech beats the odds and its Big Pharma partners report any success? The potential upside is phenomenal. We should know more as Pieris reports phase 2 efficacy data later this year.

","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
3 Risky Stocks With Huge Potential Upside
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n3 Risky Stocks With Huge Potential Upside\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2022-04-16 07:42 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Many people only want to own \"safe,\" \"mature,\" or \"boring\" stocks, and they ignore the opportunities in the risky side of the stock universe. Her firm's flagship product, the Ark Innovation Pacer Swan SOS Fund of Funds ETF|ETF, has fallen more than 50% from its high. With inflation still running rampant, many investors are worried about the future of the economy. So they have sold out of many (formerly beloved) growth stocks, presumably in favor of less risky assets.

To her credit, Wood has not shied away from her convictions. Better yet, she has maintained her long-term mindset and doubled-down on her belief in innovation, saying that Ark's portfolio is currently in "deep value" territory. Of course, critics will point to her losses in the past year, but the narrative changes if you widen the lens. Since its inception in October 2014, the Ark Innovation ETF is up over 180%, easily beating the 123% return of the broader S&P 500.

Tesla and Block currently rank as Ark's first- and fourth-largest holdings, respectively, and the firm sees significant upside. Specifically, Ark says Tesla could hit $4,600 per share by 2026, implying 360% upside over the next four years. Likewise, Ark thinks Block will hit $375 per share by 2025, implying 215% upside over the next three years.

Given Wood's track record, let's take a closer look at both stocks.

1. Tesla

Last year, Tesla overcame semiconductor shortages and supply chain disruptions to once again top the auto industry in terms of electric car sales. It captured 14.4% market share, while Chinese automaker BYD ranked second with 9.1% market share. Better yet, Tesla posted an industry-leading operating margin of 14.6% in the third quarter, and that figure rose to 14.7% in the fourth quarter, reinforcing its burgeoning reputation for manufacturing efficiency.

Financially, Tesla delivered another solid performance in 2021. Revenue surged 71% to $53.8 billion and, thanks to improving efficiency, free cash flow skyrocketed 80% to $5 billion. But Tesla (and Cathie Wood) see this as the beginning of a longer story, one in which the company leverages its software and semiconductor expertise to build self-driving cars.

During a recent earnings call, several Tesla executives noted their belief that full self-driving (FSD) software would eventually be the most important source of profitability for the company. Better yet, CEO Elon Musk said he expects to have FSD solved this year, at which point Tesla will launch an autonomous ride-hailing service. Ark thinks that service will account for more than one-third of revenue by 2026 and, thanks to its high-margin nature, more than half of EBITDA. Ark also believes production ramps and innovations like the 4680 battery cell will boost margins on the core electric vehicle business, driving cash flow higher.

Here's the bottom line: Ark believes Tesla will hit $4,600 per share in 2026, but the company also modeled out a bear scenario in which the stock hits $2,900 per share, and a bull scenario in which the stock hits $5,800 per share. Of course, it's easy to dismiss Wood's confidence as pure speculation, and you would be right to say that a lot of guesswork went into those numbers. Tesla is undoubtedly one of the most controversial stocks on the market for that very reason -- many intelligent people cannot fathom its current valuation, while others see the share price rocketing higher in the years ahead. For what it's worth, I have no plans to sell my stake in Tesla, though the $4,600 price target may seem outlandishly optimistic.

2. Block

Block has come a long way since releasing its first card reader. Today the fintech breaks its portfolio into two businesses: Square and Cash App. Through the Square ecosystem sellers can access all of the hardware, software, and services they need to manage a business across physical and digital channels. That disruptive approach differentiates Block from traditional merchant service providers, which typically burden sellers with contracts, fine-print fees, and bundles of disparate products that require significant IT support.

Similarly, the Cash App is designed to disrupt consumer finance. From a single platform, users can deposit, send, spend, and invest money, and they can even file their taxes for free. Better yet, while banks with physical presences pay about $2,500 to acquire each customer, Block pays about $10 to onboard new Cash App users. That means Block can afford to serve customers that traditional banks cannot, which should reinforce the network effects created by the peer-to-peer functionality of the Cash App.

Financially, Block delivered another solid financial performance last year. Gross profit surged 62% to $4.4 billion and free cash flow hit $714 million, up from $35 million in 2020. While the results were impressive across both ecosystems, the Cash App is catching fire. Monthly active users (MAUs) jumped 22% to 44 million, and thanks to increased adoption of products like the Cash Card, gross profit per MAU rose 13% in the fourth quarter.

Looking ahead, Ark believes Cash App MAUs will hit 75 million by 2025, and that user monetization will continue to improve. Ark's price target is also predicated on the idea that Square ecosystem revenue will grow at 19% per year through 2025, which seems entirely plausible -- Square revenue jumped 47% last year.

Here's the bottom line: Much like Ark's price target for Tesla, its valuation model for Block involves a lot of guesswork. While I certainly believe shareholders could see a 215% return over the next three years, Block looks like a solid long-term investment whether that happens or not.

","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
2 Growth Stocks With Monster Upside of at Least 215%, According to Cathie Wood
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n2 Growth Stocks With Monster Upside of at Least 215%, According to Cathie Wood\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2022-04-21 21:01 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Ark Invest CEO Cathie Wood has had a difficult year. Revenue surged 71% to $53.8 billion and, thanks to improving efficiency, free cash flow skyrocketed 80% to $5 billion. But Tesla (and Cathie Wood) see this as the beginning of a longer story, one in which the company leverages its software and semiconductor expertise to build self-driving cars.During a recent earnings call, several Tesla executives noted their belief that full self-driving (FSD) software would eventually be the most important source of profitability for the company. For what it's worth, I have no plans to sell my stake in Tesla, though the $4,600 price target may seem outlandishly optimistic.2. BlockBlock has come a long way since releasing its first card reader. Today the fintech breaks its portfolio into two businesses: Square and Cash App. Through the Square ecosystem sellers can access all of the hardware, software, and services they need to manage a business across physical and digital channels. That disruptive approach differentiates Block from traditional merchant service providers, which typically burden sellers with contracts, fine-print fees, and bundles of disparate products that require significant IT support.Similarly, the Cash App is designed to disrupt consumer finance. From a single platform, users can deposit, send, spend, and invest money, and they can even file their taxes for free. Better yet, while banks with physical presences pay about $2,500 to acquire each customer, Block pays about $10 to onboard new Cash App users. That means Block can afford to serve customers that traditional banks cannot, which should reinforce the network effects created by the peer-to-peer functionality of the Cash App.Financially, Block delivered another solid financial performance last year. Gross profit surged 62% to $4.4 billion and free cash flow hit $714 million, up from $35 million in 2020. While the results were impressive across both ecosystems, the Cash App is catching fire. Monthly active users (MAUs) jumped 22% to 44 million, and thanks to increased adoption of products like the Cash Card, gross profit per MAU rose 13% in the fourth quarter.Looking ahead, Ark believes Cash App MAUs will hit 75 million by 2025, and that user monetization will continue to improve. While I certainly believe shareholders could see a 215% return over the next three years, Block looks like a solid long-term investment whether that happens or not.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":218,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":9089008968,"gmtCreate":1649926771408,"gmtModify":1676534608632,"author":{"id":"3558673211102792","authorId":"3558673211102792","name":"Bankai","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/c7e0e10df42a0abec55080b7e549ec86","crmLevel":5,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3558673211102792","authorIdStr":"3558673211102792"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Cheap, cheaper, cheapest!
