Moreover, the company is infamous for its dilution and has never shown a net profit in a single quarter. Therefore, it is no surprise that since the growth meltdown began last year, Palantir has been one of the worst-hit stocks. The company experienced an epic drop of 80% from peak to trough, but the share price has begun to recover.</p><p><b>PLTR 1-Year</b></p><p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/9de65d4b86e4ec1d262d3162399e05b7\" tg-width=\"640\" tg-height=\"676\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/></p><p>PLTR (StockCharts.com)</p><p>Benjamin Graham may have said it best - &#34;In the short term, the market is a voting machine, but in the long run, it is a weighing machine.&#34; Mr. Graham was a brilliant investor, and the saying applies exceptionally well to Palantir, in my view. The market seemed crazy about Palantir when the stock was at $20 or $30, but is not fond of Palantir these days. The stock was severely diluted after its IPO, and the criticisms of stock-based compensation (&#34;SBC&#34;) continue today. Moreover, growth and high multiple stocks are not as popular as they were throughout most of 2021, and with a possible recession approaching, the market is voting &#34;No&#34; on Palantir.</p><p>However, let&#39;s weigh Palantir&#39;s stock instead of voting for it. Dilution and SBC compensation are common phenomena with IPOs, and Palantir is not an exception. Let&#39;s not look at past sales, but let us focus on the company&#39;s revenue growth and earning potential. Additionally, let&#39;s consider Palantir&#39;s unique, leading, and dominant market position and how it could impact future growth prospects and profitability potential. Moreover, Palantir&#39;s growth runway is massive, and its profitability potential is vast, making the stock possibly one of the best buys for the next decade.</p><p><b>Palantir - The Government&#39;s Favorite Contractor</b></p><p>One of Palantir&#39;s most unique facets is its dominant position as a government contractor. The company provides software solutions through its Gotham program to numerous government agencies. Some of Palantir&#39;s government clients include the U.S. military, intelligence, and police. More specifically, the FBI, DOD, CIA, NSA, and many other agencies use Palantir&#39;s linked databases,data mining solutions, analysis software, and much more. Furthermore, Palantir services the NHS, FDA, and other agencies. While Palantir is growing its corporate business aggressively, it still derived most of its revenues (54%) from government contracts last quarter. Advantageously, Palantir gets a substantial portion of its revenues from the government as the government is famous for its loose spending policies. Moreover, the company should continue growing government revenues, and even when a recession comes, the government will continue its spending.</p><p><b>It&#39;s All About Growth - For Now</b></p><p>I hear a lot of complaints that Palantir is not profitable, but Palantir does not need to be profitable. The company is growing at more than 30%.</p><p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/86703bab0eb031120a21a04070660751\" tg-width=\"640\" tg-height=\"318\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/></p><p>Q1 Highlights (investors.palantir.com)</p><p>Palantir&#39;s growth metrics are tremendous. 31% YoY revenue growth, 54% YoY commercial revenue growth, 136% YoY U.S. commercial revenue growth, and 86% YoY customer count growth. While the company&#39;s government business remains its anchor, we see Palantir growing its commercial business aggressively now. Moreover, we should continue seeing robust growth from the government and corporate clients as the company moves on. For full-year 2022, the company expects to show an adjusted operating margin of approximately 27% and anticipates providing30% annual growthor greater through 2025.</p><p><b>Be Patient - Profitability Will Come</b></p><p>Palantir is a high-growth company. Therefore, there is no need for it to be profitable right now. The company needs to focus on growing operations, increasing market share, and setting up future profitability potential. However, when it&#39;s time, Palantir should be exceptionally profitable.</p><p><b>Statement of Operations</b></p><p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/c68e8a7494948e5f170dc64534d1921a\" tg-width=\"640\" tg-height=\"663\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/></p><p>Statement of Operations (investors.palantir.com)</p><p>Last quarter, the company&#39;s gross profit increased by32% YoY. At the same time, Palantir&#39;s operating expenses increased by only 2.6% YoY. Therefore, the operating loss last quarter was much narrower than last year&#39;s, just $39.4 million vs. $114 million one year ago. Moreover, Palantir&#39;s gross margin came in at a whopping 78.6% the previous quarter, even higher than the 78.3% from one year ago. Thus, we see Palantir is growing increasingly profitable. As the company&#39;s gross profit continues to increase, it will start outweighing the company&#39;s operating expenses significantly, leading to substantial increases in operating income, net profit, and EPS.</p><p><b>Dilution - Not a Problem Anymore</b></p><p>We see that Palantir&#39;s share count rose by about 11% YoY. Therefore, Palantir is still diluting, but not nearly as much as it did when the company initially went public. Palantir went public with only about476 million shares. However, the company has more than 2 billion shares outstanding now. Yet, much of the dilation occurred early, essentially right after the company went public. Roughly six months after going public, the company already had nearly1.8 billion shares. Since then, SBC expenses have been declining significantly and are likely to continue falling as the company advances. Additionally, increased SBC is a common phenomenon with IPOs and is not a Palantir-isolated phenomenon.</p><p><b>SBS Expenses</b></p><p><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/5f9e8cbaa81a63e7986e0b033c550680\" tg-width=\"640\" tg-height=\"185\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer\"/></p><p>SBS Expenses (investors.palantir.com)</p><p>We see that, despite significantly higher revenues and income, SBC is down by about 23% YoY. This dynamic implies that the trend of lower SBC expenses should continue. Also, if we factor out the SBC expenses, we see that Palantir should become remarkably profitable. Minus SBC, the company&#39;s cost of revenue was only about<i>$82.8 million</i>, implying a gross margin of nearly 82% for Palantir. Minus SBC, Palantir&#39;s operating income would have been around<i>$110 million</i> last quarter, illustrating an operating margin of approximately 25%.</p><p>The company would have even recorded a small net income of about<i>$10 million</i> once SBC expenses are removed from the equation. The company reported an adjusted EPS of $0.02, illustrating that the company can be profitable right now, even while growing YoY revenues at more than 30%. Therefore, we see that Palantir has the potential to become increasingly prosperous. As the company&#39;s revenues and gross profit continue to rise, its operating expenses should increase modestly, and the SBC should continue declining significantly in proportion to the company&#39;s revenues. Thus, Palantir&#39;s profitability metrics should improve dramatically in the coming years.</p><p><b>Palantir - May Be Recession Proof</b></p><p>There&#39;s much concern about the upcoming recession. However, Palantir is in a unique position, as much of the company&#39;s revenues come from government contracts. The company&#39;s corporate clients are also not likely to reduce their reliance on Palantir&#39;s services, as the company provides essential solutions relating to data analytics, cybersecurity, and other critical aspects. Therefore, even in a recession, Palantir&#39;s growth should continue increasing, making it one of the best long-term buys in the market right now.</p><p><b>A Closer Look At Palantir&#39;s Valuation</b></p><p>Palantir should deliver roughly $2.6 billion in revenues next year, placing its forward P/S multiple at approximately 7. However, Palantir is a dominant market-leading high-growth company with remarkable profitability potential. Recently, the stock got voted down to a 5x forward sales multiple, when the stock fell down to $6. Now at $9 Palantir is trading at about 7 times forward sales, but it may trade at a significantly higher sales multiple down the line. The 7-9 times forward sales multiple projections are not high considering Palantir&#39;s robust growth and substantial profitability potential. Microsoft (MSFT), a software company with much slower growth, trades at about eight times forward sales. Nvidia (NVDA), a growth company with significantly slower growth, trades at approximately 12 times forward sales projections. Moreover, many other growth companies are trading at substantially higher multiples than ten times sales.</p><p>Palantir could command a P/S multiple of 7-9 or significantly higher in the coming years, possibly making the stock one of the best buys for the next decade. Therefore, the market will probably start weighing the company&#39;s stock instead of voting for it in the coming years, and Palantir&#39;s share price will likely advance much higher.</p><p><b>Risks To Palantir</b></p><p>Despite my bullish outlook for Palantir, market participants should consider several potential risks associated with this investment. While the growth story is strong at Palantir, shares are not cheap by traditional metrics. Furthermore, the company&#39;s earnings are still minimal and may not increase as much as I envision. Moreover, if the company&#39;s growth picture were to turn less bullish, the stock could head in the wrong direction. For instance, if Palantir lost favor with the government or had a data breach, the stock could experience a notable decline. Moreover, we should continue seeing robust growth from the government and corporate clients as the company moves on. For full-year 2022, the company expects to show an adjusted operating margin of approximately 27% and anticipates providing30% annual growthor greater through 2025.Be Patient - Profitability Will ComePalantir is a high-growth company. Therefore, there is no need for it to be profitable right now. The company needs to focus on growing operations, increasing market share, and setting up future profitability potential. Volatility like that is extreme, and it&#39;s understandable if investors are riding a roller coaster of emotions. But don&#39;t panic; here is why Sea Limited should be fine over the long term.</p><p><b>Coming down from the pandemic highs</b></p><p>Sea Limited is a conglomerate built from a collection of three primary businesses. It has an e-commerce business called Shopee, which is the largest e-commerce retailer by traffic in Southeast Asia. Sea also has a gaming division called Garena; its mobile-game <i>Free Fire</i> has been among the most-downloaded games in the world for the past three years. Lastly, Sea has a digital wallet segment called SeaMoney with 52.7 million active users.</p><p>The company operates primarily in Southeast Asia, one of the world&#39;s most internet-affluent populations. The average person in the region spends eight hours on the internet daily, and roughly half of the region&#39;s 670 million population is under 30. COVID-19 and the lockdowns during the pandemic were massive tailwinds that caused Sea&#39;s business to grow:</p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/9c715757cf7cab3f2fc52fe0f7b8976a\" tg-width=\"720\" tg-height=\"449\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"/><span>SE Revenue (TTM) data by YCharts.</span></p><p>But now, the company&#39;s growth is falling; CEO Forrest Li pointed to a mix of economic uncertainty, a strong U.S. dollar, and ongoing reopening trends as new challenges to the business. Sea&#39;s Garena division, its profit engine, has seen paying users decline since late 2021.</p><p>That trend continued in the second quarter of 2022; active users fell 15% year over year, and paying users fell 39%. In other words, people are not gaming as much as when lockdowns forced them to stay in their homes.</p><p><b>Putting out the cash-burning fire</b></p><p>Garena&#39;s struggles have turned Sea from a cash printer to a cash burner, and free cash flow has plunged into negative territory over the past year. Investors should note that Sea Limited has spent a lot of money to grow its business, including taking on Latin America with its Shopee business. Free cash flow has dried up, but you can see below that the gross profit margin has remained stable, signaling that the core business is still as profitable as before.</p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/fbaba3d0aa2a0719fd9cac37e9e1759a\" tg-width=\"720\" tg-height=\"449\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"/><span>SE Free Cash Flow data by YCharts.</span></p><p>The company can slow its cash burn by cutting back on some of its sales and marketing expenses, which total $4.2 billion over the past year, more than a third of total revenue. Forrest Li even hinted at such in the Q2 earnings call, noting that Sea will be more tightly managing operating expenses and specifically named sales and marketing among the focus areas.</p><p><b>A financial safety net</b></p><p>In the meantime, Sea has plenty of cash to sustain itself in the short and long term. Sometimes being lucky is better than being good; the company had a very well-timed $6.3 billion capital raise, issuing stock when shares were trading at high prices last September. Management probably didn&#39;t know the stock price would collapse, but a high share price is typically a great time to raise money.</p><p>Sea now has $7.8 billion in cash and short-term investments, enough money to last the business for a while, assuming its losses don&#39;t dramatically increase beyond the $1.4 billion burned over the past year.</p><p>The financials around Shopee and SeaMoney could improve as they grow, and management&#39;s comments about reining in spending should help stabilize losses in the meantime. Sea Limited remains a market leader in Southeast Asia, so it&#39;s reasonable to expect the company to continue growing in the future. Short-term hiccups? Volatility like that is extreme, and it's understandable if investors are riding a roller coaster of emotions. But don't panic; here is why Sea Limited should be fine over the long term.Coming down from the pandemic highsSea Limited is a conglomerate built from a collection of three primary businesses. It has an e-commerce business called Shopee, which is the largest e-commerce retailer by traffic in Southeast Asia. Sea also has a gaming division called Garena; its mobile-game Free Fire has been among the most-downloaded games in the world for the past three years. Lastly, Sea has a digital wallet segment called SeaMoney with 52.7 million active users.The company operates primarily in Southeast Asia, one of the world's most internet-affluent populations. The average person in the region spends eight hours on the internet daily, and roughly half of the region's 670 million population is under 30. COVID-19 and the lockdowns during the pandemic were massive tailwinds that caused Sea's business to grow:SE Revenue (TTM) data by YCharts.But now, the company's growth is falling; CEO Forrest Li pointed to a mix of economic uncertainty, a strong U.S. dollar, and ongoing reopening trends as new challenges to the business. Sea's Garena division, its profit engine, has seen paying users decline since late 2021.That trend continued in the second quarter of 2022; active users fell 15% year over year, and paying users fell 39%. In other words, people are not gaming as much as when lockdowns forced them to stay in their homes.Putting out the cash-burning fireGarena's struggles have turned Sea from a cash printer to a cash burner, and free cash flow has plunged into negative territory over the past year. Investors should note that Sea Limited has spent a lot of money to grow its business, including taking on Latin America with its Shopee business. Free cash flow has dried up, but you can see below that the gross profit margin has remained stable, signaling that the core business is still as profitable as before.SE Free Cash Flow data by YCharts.The company can slow its cash burn by cutting back on some of its sales and marketing expenses, which total $4.2 billion over the past year, more than a third of total revenue. Forrest Li even hinted at such in the Q2 earnings call, noting that Sea will be more tightly managing operating expenses and specifically named sales and marketing among the focus areas.A financial safety netIn the meantime, Sea has plenty of cash to sustain itself in the short and long term. Sometimes being lucky is better than being good; the company had a very well-timed $6.3 billion capital raise, issuing stock when shares were trading at high prices last September. Management probably didn't know the stock price would collapse, but a high share price is typically a great time to raise money.Sea now has $7.8 billion in cash and short-term investments, enough money to last the business for a while, assuming its losses don't dramatically increase beyond the $1.4 billion burned over the past year.The financials around Shopee and SeaMoney could improve as they grow, and management's comments about reining in spending should help stabilize losses in the meantime. Since then, the stock price has plummeted by over 67%, mainly due to high wall street expectations and the rising interest rate environment. However, Palantir has increased their customer base by over 86% YoY, growing revenues and improving margins. The stock is also trading at a low valuation relative to historic multiples and is undervalued intrinsically based by the company&#39;s own estimates for growth. The company’s technology was originally used by the CIA to assist with “terrorist hunting” across the globe. After an investment from the CIA, they began to branch out to other major customers including the US Army, Airbus ((OTCPK:EADSF)(OTCPK:EADSY)), the Royal Navy, <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/MSTLW\">Morgan Stanley</a> (MS) and more. The company operates with three core platforms, which include the following;</p><p><b>1. Foundry</b></p><p>This is referred to as “The Operating System for the Modern Enterprise &#39;&#39;. The platform enables companies to bring together vast data sets from business intelligence, real time production data and CRM data. This also includes the development of “digital twins” which are great ways for manufacturing companies to visualize operations and see the impact of changes. Palantir has recently announced a new deal for their Foundry platform with Stellantis (STLA), the global auto manufacturer which makes Fiat, Chrysler, Dodge, Alpha Romeo and more.</p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/14603b617f626e530deda9142a34ca40\" tg-width=\"640\" tg-height=\"426\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"/><span>Palantir Foundry (Palantir)</span></p><p><b>2. Gotham</b></p><p>This is referred to as “The Operating System for Global Decision Making”. This allows complex situations with multiple entities to be simulated with real time data feeds to enable faster decisions. Their tagline “Thousands of Users, Millions of Sensors, A Single Pane of Glass.” sums up the platform as a single dashboard to monitor operations.</p><p>A poignant example of their platform in action is with the US Army. The platform enables real time data to be captured of both allied forces and rival forces. This can then be analyzed with AI and displayed accurately to everyone who needs to see this as a method to help avoid wars and also perform better should conflict occur. </p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/9e118dae2c9a0da5feaec6e42716124b\" tg-width=\"640\" tg-height=\"384\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"/><span>Palantir Military Applications (Palantir)</span></p><p><b>3. Apollo</b></p><p>Apollo is a platform for managing production software across the major companies including Airbus, Hyundai, Rio Tinto and of course the US Army.</p><p>The company has recently announced a plethora of new products since going public. This includes edge AI which is great for the growing IoT (Internet of Things) market which grew by 22% in 2021 alone.</p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/656be9c002f22b1eeb91c658855861fb\" tg-width=\"640\" tg-height=\"357\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"/><span>Palantir new products (Investor presentation)</span></p><p>Palantir has increased their commercial customer count by 207% and added 37 of these customers in Q12022 alone. They have a 124% net dollar retention rate, which is great to see as it means customers are staying with the company and spending more. For example, they recently closed a £10 million expansion with the UK Royal Navy. This offering started with strategic workforce planning and now includes supply chain management.</p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/94ff9a111513feb9bc256c8d62e01647\" tg-width=\"640\" tg-height=\"325\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"/><span>Commercial Customers (Investor presentation)</span></p><p><b>Founder Management</b></p><p>Palantir&#39;s CEO and Founder is the unconventional Alex Karp, he has a law doctorate from Stanford where he met his Co-Founder (Peter Thiel) who was the Co-Founder of PayPal and was the first major investor into Facebook (FB). Peter Thiel still owns 7% of the company but is not involved in the day-to-day operations.</p><p>CEO Alex Karp is the main figurehead and also a Doctor of Philosophy with a net worth of approximately $850 million. The fact that Karp is independently wealthy really is testament to his mission driven focus on creating a great company. He currently still has &#34;Skin in the game&#34; and owns 2.58% of shares.</p><p><b>Growing Financials</b></p><p>Palantir has had bullish expectations of over 50% revenue growth baked into the stock since their IPO and now their share price has been butchered as a result, after the company reported a slowdown in business. But despite the bloodbath, Palantir grew revenues to $1.5 billion for FY21, up 41% year over year, which is actually great for any company with &#34;normal&#34; expectations.</p><p>In the trailing 12 months revenue increased by 31% year over year, which is also still good, but the declining growth rate is not what Wall Street likes to see. The good news is Palantir&#39;s Commercial revenue increased by 54% year over year and accelerated for the 5th quarter in a row. While US only commercial revenue increased by a rapid 136% year over year and accelerated for the 5th quarter in a row.</p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/b4c540c31d88e024376f1d99455bbc63\" tg-width=\"635\" tg-height=\"450\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"/><span>Data by YCharts</span></p><p>Palantir is operating a hefty net loss of -$498 million in trailing 12 months, but margins are improving. Their GAAP operating margin has increased from -39% in Q2 2021 to -9% by Q1 2022, which is a positive sign. While their adjusted operating margin is 26%. The company also produced $225 million in free cash flow in the trailing 12 months.</p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/e176371bfb8f2d9f5dc3d830125047c0\" tg-width=\"640\" tg-height=\"317\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"/><span>Palantir Margins (Earnings report)</span></p><p>Moving forward, Palantir is guiding for annual revenue growth of 30% or greater through 2025. They also have a strong balance sheet with $2.2 billion in cash and virtually no debt. The big data industry is forecasted to grow to $276 billion by 2026, Palantir&#39;s prime market position as a best in class provider should pave the way for continued growth. Their recent deal with Stellantis released just a few days ago could also be the start of other major carmakers jumping on board with Palantir.</p><p><b>Valuation</b></p><p>In order to value Palantir I have plugged the latest financials into my valuation model, which uses the discounted cash flow method of valuation. I have forecasted revenue growth of 30% per year for the next 5 years, which is in line with the company&#39;s guidance. I have also forecasted margins to increase to 25% in the next 5 years as the company reaches a greater scale and their investments into R&amp;D, Sales and Marketing start to pay off.</p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/68f117161860e301b8014f918edccd6e\" tg-width=\"640\" tg-height=\"206\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"/><span>Palantir Valuation (created by author Ben at Motivation 2 Invest)</span></p><p>In addition, I have capitalised the company&#39;s R&amp;D spend of $387 million in 2021, $560 million in 2020 and $305 million in 2019 in order to increase the accuracy of the valuation.</p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/782be784211422f683940cbac30e1c5b\" tg-width=\"640\" tg-height=\"675\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"/><span>Palantir stock valuation (created by author Ben at Motivation 2 Invest)</span></p><p>Given these factors I get a fair value of $10 per share, the stock is currently trading at $7 per share and is thus 32% undervalued.</p><p>If we analyse historic multiples, we can see the stock trades at an EV to EBITDA (forward) = 24.9, which is lower than the historic levels of over 90! While their Price to Sales Ratio has also compressed substantially from over 30 in 2021 to less than 8 at the time of writing.</p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/05383c39008de8f987cd9738185f8da2\" tg-width=\"635\" tg-height=\"433\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"/><span>Data by YCharts</span></p><p>Palantir is a fairly unique company in terms of its client base and software. Thus for comparison I have compared to B2B software companies such as <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/CRM\">Salesforce</a> (CRM) (which owns Data Visualisation platform Tableau) and SAP (SAP). I have also included IT data monitoring software such as Splunk (SPLK) and <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/DDOG\">Datadog</a> (DDOG). From this comparison it is clear Palantir is trading midrange with an EV to EBITA = 24.9. It trades cheaper than the rapidly growing Datadog and Splunk, but more expensive than legacy enterprise SaaS companies such as Salesforce and SAP.</p><p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/9cbb3d2e9416c3b1c338007e760dbe7d\" tg-width=\"635\" tg-height=\"484\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"/><span>Data by YCharts</span></p><p><b>Risks:Stock based compensation</b></p><p>Palantir is a highly regarded software company and must produce best in class software for its government and enterprise customer base. To accomplish this Palantir needs to hire the most talented people and pay them right. For a fast-growing company with no earnings the solution is stock based compensation. Palantir has paid employees of $732 million in stock compensation over the past year. This is a non-cash expense but still means existing shareholders can be diluted somewhat. Thus, investors should be aware of this long term as the trend is set to continue at this level at least until the company reaches sufficient scale.</p><p><b>Revenue Growth Forecasts</b></p><p>Palantir is now forecasting 30% revenue growth or greater through till 2025. In my eyes this is realistic, and conservative based upon their most revenue growth of over 41%. However, like all growth companies there is still a chance they may not hit these targets and that would cause the stock to correct down again. Personally, I think Palantir should have set expectations lower from their IPO and then beat expectations in order to keep Wall street happy.</p><p><b>Insider Selling</b></p><p>Over the last 6 months there have been three insider purchases but twelve stock sales by insiders. The stock count equals a net of -$746 million worth of shares sold which isn&#39;t great to see. This shows many insider investors were using the IPO as an opportunity to exit and cash out. This was expected but ideally now the stock has declined so much, I would like to see some more insiders buying shares.</p><p><b>Final Thoughts</b></p><p>Palantir is a fantastic company which is truly at the cutting edge when it comes to advanced software and data analysis. The company&#39;s prestigious client base of government institutions and enterprises, gives them great traction for further growth. They have high retention rates and growing revenue signify the company&#39;s prospects are improving. In addition, the stock is undervalued relative to historic multiples. The macroeconomic environment of rising interest rates and inflation has caused Wall Street to be extra sensitive to &#34;growth stocks&#34; which could leave sentiment muted in the short term. ApolloApollo is a platform for managing production software across the major companies including Airbus, Hyundai, Rio Tinto and of course the US Army.The company has recently announced a plethora of new products since going public. They have a 124% net dollar retention rate, which is great to see as it means customers are staying with the company and spending more. For example, they recently closed a £10 million expansion with the UK Royal Navy. This offering started with strategic workforce planning and now includes supply chain management.Commercial Customers (Investor presentation)Founder ManagementPalantir's CEO and Founder is the unconventional Alex Karp, he has a law doctorate from Stanford where he met his Co-Founder (Peter Thiel) who was the Co-Founder of PayPal and was the first major investor into Facebook (FB). Peter Thiel still owns 7% of the company but is not involved in the day-to-day operations.CEO Alex Karp is the main figurehead and also a Doctor of Philosophy with a net worth of approximately $850 million. The fact that Karp is independently wealthy really is testament to his mission driven focus on creating a great company. He currently still has \"Skin in the game\" and owns 2.58% of shares.Growing FinancialsPalantir has had bullish expectations of over 50% revenue growth baked into the stock since their IPO and now their share price has been butchered as a result, after the company reported a slowdown in business. But despite the bloodbath, Palantir grew revenues to $1.5 billion for FY21, up 41% year over year, which is actually great for any company with \"normal\" expectations.In the trailing 12 months revenue increased by 31% year over year, which is also still good, but the declining growth rate is not what Wall Street likes to see. The good news is Palantir's Commercial revenue increased by 54% year over year and accelerated for the 5th quarter in a row. While US only commercial revenue increased by a rapid 136% year over year and accelerated for the 5th quarter in a row.Data by YChartsPalantir is operating a hefty net loss of -$498 million in trailing 12 months, but margins are improving. Their GAAP operating margin has increased from -39% in Q2 2021 to -9% by Q1 2022, which is a positive sign. While their adjusted operating margin is 26%. The company also produced $225 million in free cash flow in the trailing 12 months.Palantir Margins (Earnings report)Moving forward, Palantir is guiding for annual revenue growth of 30% or greater through 2025. They also have a strong balance sheet with $2.2 billion in cash and virtually no debt. The big data industry is forecasted to grow to $276 billion by 2026, Palantir's prime market position as a best in class provider should pave the way for continued growth. Their recent deal with Stellantis released just a few days ago could also be the start of other major carmakers jumping on board with Palantir.ValuationIn order to value Palantir I have plugged the latest financials into my valuation model, which uses the discounted cash flow method of valuation. I have forecasted revenue growth of 30% per year for the next 5 years, which is in line with the company's guidance. I have also forecasted margins to increase to 25% in the next 5 years as the company reaches a greater scale and their investments into R&D, Sales and Marketing start to pay off.Palantir Valuation (created by author Ben at Motivation 2 Invest)In addition, I have capitalised the company's R&D spend of $387 million in 2021, $560 million in 2020 and $305 million in 2019 in order to increase the accuracy of the valuation.Palantir stock valuation (created by author Ben at Motivation 2 Invest)Given these factors I get a fair value of $10 per share, the stock is currently trading at $7 per share and is thus 32% undervalued.If we analyse historic multiples, we can see the stock trades at an EV to EBITDA (forward) = 24.9, which is lower than the historic levels of over 90! While their Price to Sales Ratio has also compressed substantially from over 30 in 2021 to less than 8 at the time of writing.Data by YChartsPalantir is a fairly unique company in terms of its client base and software. Thus for comparison I have compared to B2B software companies such as Salesforce (CRM) (which owns Data Visualisation platform Tableau) and SAP (SAP). I have also included IT data monitoring software such as Splunk (SPLK) and Datadog (DDOG). From this comparison it is clear Palantir is trading midrange with an EV to EBITA = 24.9. It trades cheaper than the rapidly growing Datadog and Splunk, but more expensive than legacy enterprise SaaS companies such as Salesforce and SAP.Data by YChartsRisks:Stock based compensationPalantir is a highly regarded software company and must produce best in class software for its government and enterprise customer base. To accomplish this Palantir needs to hire the most talented people and pay them right. For a fast-growing company with no earnings the solution is stock based compensation. Palantir has paid employees of $732 million in stock compensation over the past year. This is a non-cash expense but still means existing shareholders can be diluted somewhat. Thus, investors should be aware of this long term as the trend is set to continue at this level at least until the company reaches sufficient scale.Revenue Growth ForecastsPalantir is now forecasting 30% revenue growth or greater through till 2025. In my eyes this is realistic, and conservative based upon their most revenue growth of over 41%. However, like all growth companies there is still a chance they may not hit these targets and that would cause the stock to correct down again. Personally, I think Palantir should have set expectations lower from their IPO and then beat expectations in order to keep Wall street happy.Insider SellingOver the last 6 months there have been three insider purchases but twelve stock sales by insiders. The stock count equals a net of -$746 million worth of shares sold which isn't great to see. This shows many insider investors were using the IPO as an opportunity to exit and cash out. This was expected but ideally now the stock has declined so much, I would like to see some more insiders buying shares.Final ThoughtsPalantir is a fantastic company which is truly at the cutting edge when it comes to advanced software and data analysis. The company's prestigious client base of government institutions and enterprises, gives them great traction for further growth. They have high retention rates and growing revenue signify the company's prospects are improving. In addition, the stock is undervalued relative to historic multiples. The macroeconomic environment of rising interest rates and inflation has caused Wall Street to be extra sensitive to \"growth stocks\" which could leave sentiment muted in the short term.
