China Morning Post reported on Saturday, citing a Hong Kong study. Some who received the Sinovac vaccine might need a third booster shot as well, the newspaper said, citing lead researcher Professor Benjamin Cowling, an epidemiologist with the University of Hong Kong (HKU). The government-commissioned study was conducted by HKU's school of public health and involved tracking the antibody responses of 1,000 people who received either vaccine, the report added. Earlier this week, officials in Indonesia warned that more than 350 medical workers have caught COVID-19 despite being vaccinated with Sinovac and dozens have been hospitalised, raising concerns about its efficacy against more infectious variants of the virus. Earlier in June, Uruguay released real-world data on the impact of Sinovac Biotech's COVID-19 vaccine among its population that showed it was over 90% effective in preventing intensive care admissions and deaths. The Uruguay government also studied the effectiveness of the Pfizer/BioNTech's vaccine among 162,047 health workers and people over 80 years old, and said the shot was 94% effective at preventing intensive care unit admissions and deaths, and reduced infections by 78%. Following its mid-December IPO at $24 a share -- trading under the name of its parent company,ContextLogic(NASDAQ:WISH)-- the stock climbed to $33 a share in January. But since then, the price has plunged by 77%, hitting a low of $7.52 on June 7. It has pared those losses a bit in the past week, but it would still need to more than double in price just to get back to its debut price.
\n
So why did Wish fall? Bears are highlighting the company's decelerating revenue and user growth, coupled with itswidening net losses. They're alsocomparing Wish to other e-commerce playersthat are growing more quickly -- and in many cases, profitably. Wish also offered weak guidance for the current quarter, which hasn't helped matters.
\n
These are all legitimate concerns. But bears seem to be overly focused on short-term headwinds while failing to note two key factors that will shape the future of this e-commerce platform.
\n
\n
1. Wish has a track record of innovation and evolution
\n
Last year was a strong one for e-commerce players around the world. Pandemic lockdowns and social distancingaccelerated the adoptionof online retail among both merchants and consumers. As a result,Amazon,Etsy,Shopify, and MercadoLibre all had some of theirbest performances ever.
\n
Wish also had its best year yet -- its revenue andmonthly active usershit all-time highs. But its actual performance did not meet the standard set by its larger peers. For example, Wish's revenue rose by 34%, while Amazon'srose 38%. The former underperformed (even though was growing from a much smaller base) because it operates a cross-border e-commerce platform -- many of its merchants are based in China, while the bulk of its buyers are from Europe and the U.S. When the pandemic hit, international flights ground to a near-halt, which crippled cross-border delivery networks. As a result, merchants on Wish were either unable to deliver goods to customers, or forced to rely on slower shipping methods such as ocean freight. Customers responded by canceling orders and buying fewer items on the platform. If global supply chains had not been crimped, there's no doubt Wish would have delivered more growth in 2020.
\n
On the other hand, most e-commerce players -- including Amazon -- are primarily local platforms. Both the sellers and the buyers are largely in the same country or region. In 2020, local logistics networks were largely able to operate effectively despite international border closures and disruptions to overseas supply chains. This allowed online shopping to surge throughout the pandemic.
\n
During that trying time, Wish was not sitting on its hands. It doubled down on its proprietary logistic platform to provide merchants with cost-effective and reliable end-to-end, cross-border parcel deliveries. As a result, the average delivery time improved, and shipping related refunds rate fell by 43% in the first quarter of 2021. By adapting, Wish turned the crisis into an opportunity to strengthen its business model -- and revenue for Wish's logistics division surged by 275% in 2020.
\n
Such evolutions are nothing new for the company. Wish has been trying to innovate over the years to deal with real issues around customer service, product quality, and logistics, among other areas. For example, in 2019, Wishrolled out Wish Local, a partnership program with brick-and-mortar stores. Customers could order items via the e-commerce platform, and then pick them up at Wish Local's partner stores, a network of more than 50,000 merchants in 50 countries.
\n
Customers get secure shipping, and while the partner retailers can sell inventory on the Wish platform, gain added foot traffic, and earn extra revenue by serving as pickup spots. And for the company, Wish Local dramatically allowed it to expand its fulfillment network without expensive infrastructure investments, expand its product catalog, and improve convenience for customers.
\n
Some of Wish's problems aren't unusual in its business. Alibaba, the world's biggest e-commerce company by gross merchandise value, had to deal with a host of product quality issues and logistical problems in its early days.Pinduoduo, the up-and-coming disrupter in China's e-commerce market, has also had to deal withconcerns over fake and counterfeitlistings.
\n
Hence, while investors will need to keep an eye on Wish's short-term issues, they would be far better off thinking about what Wish could become. Its mission of bringing \"an affordable and entertaining mobile shopping experience to billions of consumers around the world\" serves as a good compass here. And given its strong execution capabilities, Wish is in a good position to sustain growth for years to come.
\n
2. Wish's future is in good hands
\n
Wish has a track record of innovation and evolution. But it will still require its management team to bring it to the next level. In that regard, I believe it can count on founder-CEO Piotr Szulczewski and new Executive Chairwoman Jacqueline Reses.
\n
A former senior software engineer at Alphabet subsidiary Google, Szulczewski built the technological foundation that powers Wish today. The company leverages data to drive almost all aspects of its operations -- including user acquisition, recommendation personalization, and logistics optimization. Its technology allows Wish to deliver a level of efficiency and productivity that outclasses some of the world's besttechnologycompanies. For perspective, Wish's revenue per employee was $2.9 million in 2020 -- nearly double Facebook's revenue per employee.
\n
In addition to being responsible for much of Wish's success, Szulczewski has serious skin in the game -- his stake in the company is worth more than $1 billion. In other words, he'sheavily investedin making the company a success.
\n
Wish beefed up its leadership team with the addition of Reses. (Previously, Szulczewski held both chair and CEO roles.) Reses had been with Square from 2012 to 2020, where she served aschairwoman of Square Capitalfrom 2015 to 2020. Prior to that, she was chief development officer of Yahoo! and on the board of Alibaba. She also chairs the Economic Advisory Council of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco. Wish stands to benefit immensely from her experience scaling global technology companies.
\n
With those two leading the way, Wish has what it needs to accelerate its growth.
\n
What's next for Wish
\n
Wish generated $2.5 billion in revenue last year. That's just a drop in the bucket compared to the global e-commerce market, which eMarketer expects to be worth $6.3 trillion by 2024.
\n
Wish hopes to become the online retailer of choice for value-conscious shoppers. To get there, Wish must expand its selection of products far beyond the often low-quality products it offers currently. It needs to grow, diversify and localize its merchant base, targeting local sellers in the U.S. and Europe for its partner network. The company also needs to drum up marketing efforts, improve its delivery infrastructure and expand Wish Local.
\n
The path to success won't be easy, as Wish faces competition from larger, more established players like Amazon andeBay. But Wish is hoping it can leverage its strengths -- such as its prowess in data science -- to outsmart its rivals. And with a potential customer base spanning over a billion households worldwide, Wish should remain busy for many years to come.
","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
2 Things the Bears Might Have Missed About Wish
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\n2 Things the Bears Might Have Missed About Wish\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-06-18 11:26 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
For investors of discount e-commerce marketplace Wish, the past six months have been one heck of a bumpy ride. Customers could order items via the e-commerce platform, and then pick them up at Wish Local's partner stores, a network of more than 50,000 merchants in 50 countries.\nCustomers get secure shipping, and while the partner retailers can sell inventory on the Wish platform, gain added foot traffic, and earn extra revenue by serving as pickup spots. And for the company, Wish Local dramatically allowed it to expand its fulfillment network without expensive infrastructure investments, expand its product catalog, and improve convenience for customers.\nSome of Wish's problems aren't unusual in its business. Alibaba, the world's biggest e-commerce company by gross merchandise value, had to deal with a host of product quality issues and logistical problems in its early days.Pinduoduo, the up-and-coming disrupter in China's e-commerce market, has also had to deal withconcerns over fake and counterfeitlistings.\nHence, while investors will need to keep an eye on Wish's short-term issues, they would be far better off thinking about what Wish could become. Its mission of bringing \"an affordable and entertaining mobile shopping experience to billions of consumers around the world\" serves as a good compass here. And given its strong execution capabilities, Wish is in a good position to sustain growth for years to come.\n2. Wish's future is in good hands\nWish has a track record of innovation and evolution. But it will still require its management team to bring it to the next level. In that regard, I believe it can count on founder-CEO Piotr Szulczewski and new Executive Chairwoman Jacqueline Reses.\nA former senior software engineer at Alphabet subsidiary Google, Szulczewski built the technological foundation that powers Wish today. The company leverages data to drive almost all aspects of its operations -- including user acquisition, recommendation personalization, and logistics optimization. Its technology allows Wish to deliver a level of efficiency and productivity that outclasses some of the world's besttechnologycompanies. For perspective, Wish's revenue per employee was $2.9 million in 2020 -- nearly double Facebook's revenue per employee.\nIn addition to being responsible for much of Wish's success, Szulczewski has serious skin in the game -- his stake in the company is worth more than $1 billion. In other words, he'sheavily investedin making the company a success.\nWish beefed up its leadership team with the addition of Reses. Wish stands to benefit immensely from her experience scaling global technology companies.\nWith those two leading the way, Wish has what it needs to accelerate its growth.\nWhat's next for Wish\nWish generated $2.5 billion in revenue last year. That's just a drop in the bucket compared to the global e-commerce market, which eMarketer expects to be worth $6.3 trillion by 2024.\nWish hopes to become the online retailer of choice for value-conscious shoppers. To get there, Wish must expand its selection of products far beyond the often low-quality products it offers currently. It needs to grow, diversify and localize its merchant base, targeting local sellers in the U.S. and Europe for its partner network. The company also needs to drum up marketing efforts, improve its delivery infrastructure and expand Wish Local.\nThe path to success won't be easy, as Wish faces competition from larger, more established players like Amazon andeBay. But Wish is hoping it can leverage its strengths -- such as its prowess in data science -- to outsmart its rivals. And with a potential customer base spanning over a billion households worldwide, Wish should remain busy for many years to come.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":194,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":136139889,"gmtCreate":1621997939141,"gmtModify":1704365767659,"author":{"id":"3560390927109287","authorId":"3560390927109287","name":"GraceSaw","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3560390927109287","authorIdStr":"3560390927109287"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"[Strong] ","listText":"[Strong] ","text":"[Strong]","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":9,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/136139889","repostId":"1169666766","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1169666766","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1621997680,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1169666766?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-05-26 10:54","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Strategist says copper’s ‘raging bull’ run is just beginning, and picks four stocks to cash in","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1169666766","media":"cnbc","summary":"Thecopperbull run could be just beginning, according to investment research firm CFRA, as Chinese de","content":"
\n
Thecopperbull run could be just beginning, according to investment research firm CFRA, as Chinese demand, the push toward decarbonization and South American supply risks converge.Copper has been ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n","source":"cnbc_highlight","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n<meta http-equiv=\"Content-Type\" content=\"text/html; The company has a “buy” rating onFirst Quantum MineralsandSouthern Copper Corporationand a “strong buy” onFreeport-McMoRanandTeck Resources.U.S. miner Freeport-McMoRan is one of the world’s largest publicly-traded copper producers, and also produces gold and molybdenum. Its portfolio includes the copper and gold-rich Grasberg minerals district in Indonesia, where it is ramping up mining operations, and significant operations across the Americas.“The Grasberg ramp-up will continue in 2022,” Miller said.“Our 2021 adjusted EBITDA (earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization) estimate of $9.4 billion is nearly double the 2020 figure, driven by higher volume and higher prices. We forecast a significant increase in free cash flow in 2021, reaching $4.5 billion, up from $1.0 billion in 2020.”Canada’s Teck Resources produces copper, metallurgical coal, zinc and bitumen, with copper mines operating in Canada, Chile and Peru alongside development projects throughout North and South America. Copper is set to become a larger component of the company’s value, Miller said, due to a key project at one of the world’s largest undeveloped copper resources in northern Chile, known as Quebrada Balance Phase 2.“QB2 is poised to double Teck’s current copper production by 2023,” Miller added.First Quantum Minerals runs eight mines in seven countries, plus advanced exploration projects in Argentina and Peru, and produced a record 778,911 tons of copper in 2020. Its “mega project,” Cobre Panama, is expected to become one of the world’s largest copper mines, producing more than 300,000 tons per year once at full capacity.Miller noted that the company has also transitioned from large annual spending to free cash flow generation, which he suggested “will quickly de-leverage the balance sheet.”Southern Copper Corporation runs mining, smelting and refining facilities in Peru and Mexico, with exploration projects in Argentina, Chile and Ecuador. It produced 2.2 billion pounds of copper in 2020 and trades at a premium to its peers, which Miller said was due to the company’s “best-in-class cost profile, strong balance sheet, and best-in-class reserve life index.”Price outlookThe price of copper has more than doubled since bottoming out in March 2020at around $2.11 per pound, and was trading at $4.51 on Tuesday — slightly off the record high of $4.75 seen earlier this month. With strong demand driven by Chinese stimulus and the potential for long-term growth amid the transition to renewable energy, particularly the demand for electric vehicles, analysts expect the upward trajectory for copper to continue. But while Chinese demand and decarbonization are the headline catalysts, Miller said issues around South American supply could be the “showstopper.” Labor negotiations in Chile and imminent elections in both Chile and Peru have the potential to affect supply, he added.“Chile is by far the largest copper producing country (accounting for 28% of 2020 mined copper supply), followed by Peru (at 10%),” Miller said.“If you include the 7% copper supply from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), 45% of the world’s copper supply is produced in regions facing political uncertainty.”With regards to South America, threats of nationalization from political candidates and regulatory uncertainty mean investments in new mines could be delayed, Miller said. He also anticipates that the copper project pipeline will fall short of meeting demand, while new, major discoveries of the metal are now extremely rare.Miller argued that consensus on copper’s price outlook is still far too bearish, highlighting that during the last bull run between 2001 and 2011, the price of copper rose almost six-fold.“A similar increase is not out of the question, given the fundamental drivers today are arguably more bullish than the previous cycle,” Miller suggested.“Using the 2016 average copper price of $2.22 per pound as a starting point (the bottom of the previous cycle), history would suggest that prices could surge to higher than $12.00 per pound over the course of the next five to seven years.”","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":102,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":182884788,"gmtCreate":1623563113344,"gmtModify":1704206275669,"author":{"id":"3560390927109287","authorId":"3560390927109287","name":"GraceSaw","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3560390927109287","authorIdStr":"3560390927109287"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"[Strong] ","listText":"[Strong] ","text":"[Strong]","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":8,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/182884788","repostId":"1185020128","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1185020128","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1623537503,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1185020128?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-06-13 06:38","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Meme Stock Soars 1,000% To Lead These Two Top Small Cap Stock Plays","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1185020128","media":"investors","summary":"GameStop may be the top holding in SPDR S&P 600 Small Cap Value, but that's not the only reason the ","content":"
GameStop may be the top holding in SPDR S&P 600 Small Cap Value, but that's not the only reason the ETF is beating its growth-stock counterpart.
\n
The $4.2 billion value fund tracks the S&P SmallCap 600 Value Index (SLYV), composed of stocks with the strongest value traits based on book value to price ratio, earnings to price ratio, and sales to price ratio. It has only been three short years since NIO made its first deliveries in mid-2018, yet many are already wondering whether its share price can reach similar heights as an industry leader, Tesla’s(NASDAQ:TSLA). Albeit a little farfetched given Tesla is currently trading at more than $600 per share with a market cap of more than $600 billion, we do believe NIO has promising potential to break $100 per share before 2025. Even Wall Street Analysts remain optimistic about the company’s future by assigning a price target of close to $60, which represents upward potential of more than 35% based on the last traded share price of $42.34 (June 1st).
\n
Founded in 2014, NIO has sold and delivered more than 100,000 vehicles in China to date. The company boasts a fleet of five emission-free, fully battery-powered models, ranging from sports cars to luxury sedans and full-size SUVs. In addition to their vehicles, NIO is also known for their significant progress achieved in innovative technology, including state-of-the-art battery solutions, artificial intelligence, and autonomous driving. The company has also recently turned their global expansion plans into reality, with the first overseas NIO store to open in Oslo, Norway in Q3 2021. We believe that reaching a share price of $100 is no longer a question of “if”, but instead, “when”.
\n
A Trailblazer in Innovative Technology
\n
Source:ir.nio.com
\n
NIO has continuously exhibited characteristics of an unsettling innovator. The brand is widely known for their breakthrough in battery swapping technology, “Power Swap”, which provides NIO owners with a fast and convenient solution to concerns over the typically limited travel range of EVs. Similar to a gas station, Power Swap is a battery swapping station that can swap a dead battery out for a fully charged one in under three minutes; a fully charged battery enables a NIO vehicle to travel up to 435 miles, which is more than double of the 181-mile average travel range of electric vehicles currently available on the market. NIO owners have the option to subscribe to the“Battery as a Service” (“BaaS”)package, which is a monthly subscription service that provides NIO owners with flexible options for battery upgrades based on personal needs. The company currently offers a standard 75 kWh battery which enables a travel range of up to 310 miles on a full charge, and an enhanced 100 kWh battery which enables a travel range of up to 435 miles on a full charge; both are available for NIO owners to choose from on a month-to-month basis under BaaS. To date, there are more than 226 battery swapping stations across China, with more on the way following a recent strategic partnership agreement between NIO and Sinopec. NIO’s vehicles are also compatible with local competitor XPeng’s(NYSE:XPEV)1,140 vehicle charging stations available across 164 cities in China, which further enhances its existing network of charging infrastructure in place for NIO owners.
\n
In addition to the developed network of infrastructure needed to sustain NIO EVs in the long run, the company has also been working diligently on perfecting their autonomous driving and AI technology in order to remain competitive in the broader EV and tech space. NIO has already been performing testing on its autonomous driving systems since 2016, with their first testing on public roads in Beijing performed in 2018. The company’s commitment to the future of passenger transportation is also proven through their development of EVE, the brand’s concept car for autonomous driving which encompasses a luxurious, comfortable and safe experience powered by NIO’s NOMI AI, the world’s first in-vehicle artificial intelligence.
\n
To further enhance their progress in autonomous driving technology, NIO has recently partnered with Mobileye – an Intel-owned(NASDAQ:INTC)company known for developing the “EyeQ chip” currently used by more than 27 car manufacturers for their assisted-driving technologies – to develop and commercialize driving automation that does not require human interaction (i.e. “level 4” autonomous driving). Their collaboration is expected to accelerate NIO’s launch of the “Autonomous Driving as a Service” (“ADaaS”) package, which is a monthly subscription for their autonomous driving technology, “NIO Autonomous Driving” (“NAD”). However, similar to Tesla’s “Full Self-Driving” package, the NAD technology that is expected to launch in 2022 does not yet make NIO vehicles capable of driving without human intervention, but it does catapult NIO to a comparable spot with industry leader Tesla in the race towards level 4 autonomous driving. NIO owners will have the option to subscribe to ADaaS for a monthly subscription fee of RMB 680. With more than 102,000 NIO vehicles on the road today, the new subscription package is expected to generate incremental annual sales of RMB 840 million ($132 million); the additional revenue stream is valued at approximately RMB 10 billion ($1.6 billion) upon the service’s inception, assuming an average vehicle life of 12 years with most existing NIO owners signing up.
\n
NIO’s continuous developments in autonomous driving technology are expected to benefit the company and its shareholders greatly in the near future. By 2025, the global autonomous cars market will become one of the fastest growing and most highly demanded segments with an estimated value of $1.6 trillion. A 6% share of this market would add a valuation of at least $100 billion to NIO’s existing $67 billion market cap, boosting its per unit share value to more than $100. Considering NIO is currently one of the very few fully electric automakers to have achieved tangible results within the autonomous driving scene, and is actively growing its overseas sales, we are confident that the company is capable of capturing more than 6% of the said market share, and achieve a per unit share price of more than $100 by 2025 with ease. Combined with the global shift in consumer preference towards electrification and automation, we are projecting vehicle sales of approximately 300,000 units by FY 2025, which will yield total revenues of approximately RMB 140 billion ($22 billion).
\n
Source: Author, with data from our internal forecasts (NIO_-_Forecasted_Financial_Information.pdf).
\n
Global Expansion
\n
Source: ir.nio.com
\n
Another catalyst that will propel NIO’s share price beyond $100 is their ongoing overseas expansion efforts. NIO has been transparent about their intentions to expand globally, especially in the U.S. and Europe, as part of their plans in becoming an industry leader. NIO will be opening its first overseas sales and service centre in Oslo, Norway in September. The brand’s footprint in Norway will further expand in 2022 with four more NIO stores to open in Bergen, Stavanger, Trondheim and Kristiansand. In addition to its direct sales and service centres, NIO will also be introducing a full charging map for Europe, starting with four NIO Power Swap stations in Norway to provide new NIO owners with the convenience and range that the brand builds its success on. NIO’s flagship SUV, the ES8, which currently retails at a starting price of approximately US$67,000, will be the first model introduced in the European market, with the brand’s newest full-size sedan, the ET7, to follow in 2022.
\n
With a proven sales track record in China’s luxury EV market, and specs comparable to the globally recognized Tesla, there is no reason for NIO to not succeed overseas. As mentioned in earlier sections, NIO’s vehicles have a driving range of up to 435 miles on a full charge, making it a desirable choice for potential European and American car owners looking for a reliable companion to accompany them on daily commutes to long road trips. The NIO exterior and interior designs are also modern, luxurious, and comparable to those preferred by the European and North American population. Combined with a diverse product line and price range, NIO is equipped to take on the increasing demands for EVs on a global scale.
\n
NIO’s Historical Performance
\n
Just a little more than a year ago, NIO’s share price hit an all-time low at under $2 amidst liquidity troubles despite continued vehicle sales. In mid-2020, the municipal government of Hefei, China came to NIO’s rescue with a capital injection of RMB 7 billion (approximately $1 billion). The arrangement resulted in the creation of “NIO China”, which serves as the operating entity that holds all of NIO’s core businesses and assets; NIO currently holds a 90.36% ownership interest in NIO China, while the “Hefei Strategic Investors” consortium holds the remainder 9.64%. The partnership became the company’s lifeline; the additional capital brought forth significant improvements to the company’s operations and vehicle sales, which were reflected in their strong financial performance and upward trend in share price in the summer of 2020. By the end of 2020’s second quarter, NIO’s share price rebounded by almost 20% on average after posting a 171% quarter-over-quarter increase in total revenues. The company’s share price more than tripled in 2020’s third quarter, averaging $15.40, and continued to climb towards its fourth quarter average of $38.70. By the end of the latest quarter ended March 31st, 2021, NIO’s share price averaged $50.97, and peaked at almost $62 in February which is more than 10x its IPO price in 2018. The company holds a market cap of more than $67 billion today, outgrowing its mere $1 billion market cap when it made its debut on the NYSE.
\n
Source: Author, with data from ir.nio.com
\n
NIO’s fundamentals have also shown nothing but steady improvements since its share price peaked earlier this year before the growth stock sell-off in late February. Deliveries in 2021 have continued to accelerate exponentially, with first quarter deliveries of more than 20,000 vehicles, representing almost 50% of total deliveries made in 2020. The company continues to exhibit a promising outlook with more than 7,100 vehicles delivered in April, representing an increase of more than 125% year-over-year. NIO has also maintained positive cash flows from operating activities for the first quarter of 2021, thanks to the higher deliveries and effective cost-management measures which have amped up their gross profit margin to 19.5%, comparable with industry leaders like Tesla whose first quarter gross margins were 21%. As aforementioned, we are forecasting vehicle sales of close to 300,000 units by FY 2025, which translates to approximately RMB 140 billion ($22 billion) in total revenues ($18.60 per share). Our vehicle sales forecast for FY 2025 is further corroborated by the recently renewed manufacturing agreement with joint venturer “Jianghuai Automobile Group” (“JAC”), which increases the current annual production capacity of 100,000 units to 240,000 units; the ongoing construction of “NeoPark” in Hefei, China is also expected to add annual production capacity of 1 million units, which further supports our positive outlook on NIO’s continued commitment to grow its business. Considering industry peer Tesla’s current P/S ratio of 16.43x with approximately $42 billion in annual revenues (annualization of $10.389 billion in first quarter revenues), the same proportion applied to NIO’s forecasted FY 2025 total revenues is expected to yield a P/S ratio of 8.7x, resulting in a share price of more than $160.
\n
NIO vs. LI and XPEV
\n
Source: Finviz
\n
We have also compared NIO’s current P/S ratio to its domestic peers to gauge the timeline in which NIO’s share price will exceed $100. NIO currently trades at a P/S ratio of approximately 14.88x, while domestic industry peers, Li Auto(NASDAQ:LI)and XPEV, currently trade at a P/S ratio of 14.46x and 21.31x, respectively.
\n
Considering NIO’s technology, revenues, global footprint, and cash flows are stronger than LI’s and XPEV’s, the former deserves to be traded at a much higher multiple than the latter two. Even if NIO reaches a P/S ratio of 18.1x (mid-point to XPEV's), it will drive the company’s current share price up to $51.50, which represents an upside potential of 22% based on the last traded share price of $42.34 (June 1st). And based on our forecasted revenues for FY 2025 for NIO of RMB 140 billion ($22 billion), or $18.60 per share, even a multiple half of the 18.1x would be more than sufficient to bring NIO's share price beyond $160 by 2025; we believe the trading multiple is achievable for NIO given the cash from operations and technological advancements achieved by then would place them on a trajectory of continued long-term growth within the EV industry, which is expected to continue into 2030 and beyond when the brand's level 4 autonomous driving technology development is complete and commercialized.
\n
Business Risks and Challenges
\n
As mentioned in one of my previous articles on NIO, the “Holding Foreign Companies Accountable Act” (“HFCA Act”) remains one of the most significant impending threats to the company’s share price. Currently, public accounting firms in China are non-compliant with PCAOB inspection rules required by the SEC, and the enactment of the HFCA Act in December 2020 requires that these public accounting firms comply with PCAOB inspection requests within three years of the enactment date; otherwise, all public companies audited by said firms will be subject to risks of de-listing. NIO is currently audited by PricewaterhouseCoopers Zhong Tian LLP, which is on PCAOB’s denied-access list. The potential threat of being delisted from the NYSE could be a deterrence factor to investors and ultimately hemorrhage NIO’s share price in the long run if Chinese authorities and the PCAOB cannot reach an agreement on conducting inspections soon.
\n
Another imminent challenge to NIO’s business is the ongoing global chip supply shortage. As the automotive industry becomes more dependent on chips to manage every function of their vehicles, the gap between automaker demands and chip manufacturer supplies is widened. NIO was no exception to the impacts of the ongoing chip supply crisis – in March 2021, NIO halted their production activity at the JAC-NIO manufacturing plant for five working days in order to adjust their production levels. However, the company continues to effectively navigate through the situation as proven through their increasing number of deliveries month-over-month; in NIO’s latest delivery update press release for April, the company has continued to keep up with market demand with more than 7,100 vehicle deliveries made, representing a 125% year-over-year growth.
\n
Competition within the EV sector has also ramped up in recent years. Consumer attitude towards EVs has changed drastically in the past decade due to rising concerns over climate change met with price parity between traditional petrol-fueled vehicles and EVs. The entry barrier for emerging EV makers has also lowered significantly as car battery solutions become more accessible through third-party OEMs; new entrants are now keener on participating in the profitable opportunity within the growing EV sector as initial investments become more reasonable than it was for Tesla in 2003 when EVs were still just a concept to many. In addition to new entrants, traditional petrol-fueled automakers like Ford(NYSE:F)have also started to incorporate fully battery-powered vehicles into their fleet in order to meet evolving consumer demands and remain competitive within the automotive industry. However, we believe NIO possesses the brand, customer experience, production strategy, talent and business model (further analyzedhere) needed to remain successful within the new competitive landscape in the long run.
\n
Conclusion
\n
NIO has already established a strong brand presence within the domestic Chinese market, which is currently one of the fastest growing EV markets, representing more than 40% of global EV sales in 2020. Combined with their proven ability to produce quality EVs, construct innovative charging infrastructure, achieve breakthrough progress in the development of autonomous driving technology, and execute their overseas expansion strategy, NIO is effectively narrowing the gap between them and Tesla within the EV sector on a global scale. We are confident that the next five years will be a transformational era for the EV and tech company due to increasing demands for electrification and automation within the automotive industry, which NIO has already proven to excel in. The value of its continued achievements will be reflected in its share price in no time, making them a worthy stock pick for those looking to profit off of the impending age of green transition and automation.
","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Can NIO Stock Reach $100? It has only been three short years since NIO made its first deliveries in mid-2018, yet many are already wondering whether its share price can reach similar heights as an industry leader, Tesla’s(NASDAQ:TSLA). Albeit a little farfetched given Tesla is currently trading at more than $600 per share with a market cap of more than $600 billion, we do believe NIO has promising potential to break $100 per share before 2025. Even Wall Street Analysts remain optimistic about the company’s future by assigning a price target of close to $60, which represents upward potential of more than 35% based on the last traded share price of $42.34 (June 1st).\nFounded in 2014, NIO has sold and delivered more than 100,000 vehicles in China to date. We believe that reaching a share price of $100 is no longer a question of “if”, but instead, “when”.\nA Trailblazer in Innovative Technology\nSource:ir.nio.com\nNIO has continuously exhibited characteristics of an unsettling innovator. NIO’s vehicles are also compatible with local competitor XPeng’s(NYSE:XPEV)1,140 vehicle charging stations available across 164 cities in China, which further enhances its existing network of charging infrastructure in place for NIO owners.\nIn addition to the developed network of infrastructure needed to sustain NIO EVs in the long run, the company has also been working diligently on perfecting their autonomous driving and AI technology in order to remain competitive in the broader EV and tech space. NIO has already been performing testing on its autonomous driving systems since 2016, with their first testing on public roads in Beijing performed in 2018. The company’s commitment to the future of passenger transportation is also proven through their development of EVE, the brand’s concept car for autonomous driving which encompasses a luxurious, comfortable and safe experience powered by NIO’s NOMI AI, the world’s first in-vehicle artificial intelligence.\nTo further enhance their progress in autonomous driving technology, NIO has recently partnered with Mobileye – an Intel-owned(NASDAQ:INTC)company known for developing the “EyeQ chip” currently used by more than 27 car manufacturers for their assisted-driving technologies – to develop and commercialize driving automation that does not require human interaction (i.e. With more than 102,000 NIO vehicles on the road today, the new subscription package is expected to generate incremental annual sales of RMB 840 million ($132 million); the additional revenue stream is valued at approximately RMB 10 billion ($1.6 billion) upon the service’s inception, assuming an average vehicle life of 12 years with most existing NIO owners signing up.\nNIO’s continuous developments in autonomous driving technology are expected to benefit the company and its shareholders greatly in the near future. Combined with the global shift in consumer preference towards electrification and automation, we are projecting vehicle sales of approximately 300,000 units by FY 2025, which will yield total revenues of approximately RMB 140 billion ($22 billion).\nSource: Author, with data from our internal forecasts (NIO_-_Forecasted_Financial_Information.pdf).\nGlobal Expansion\nSource: ir.nio.com\nAnother catalyst that will propel NIO’s share price beyond $100 is their ongoing overseas expansion efforts. NIO’s flagship SUV, the ES8, which currently retails at a starting price of approximately US$67,000, will be the first model introduced in the European market, with the brand’s newest full-size sedan, the ET7, to follow in 2022.\nWith a proven sales track record in China’s luxury EV market, and specs comparable to the globally recognized Tesla, there is no reason for NIO to not succeed overseas. Combined with a diverse product line and price range, NIO is equipped to take on the increasing demands for EVs on a global scale.\nNIO’s Historical Performance\nJust a little more than a year ago, NIO’s share price hit an all-time low at under $2 amidst liquidity troubles despite continued vehicle sales. In mid-2020, the municipal government of Hefei, China came to NIO’s rescue with a capital injection of RMB 7 billion (approximately $1 billion). As has been the case for most of the past year, Buffett was active in the financial sector, mostly reducing Berkshire Hathaway's positions in banks. At the company's annual investor day earlier this month, Buffett provided some explanation for all the stock selling he's done in that sector.
\n
\"I like banks generally,\" he said, \"I just didn't like the proportion we had compared to the possible risk if we got the bad results that so far we haven't gotten.\"
\n
Let's review the three big changes Buffett and Berkshire Hathaway made to their bank holdings in the first quarter.
\n
\n
1. All but eliminating Wells Fargo
\n
Everyone knew it was coming, but Buffett all but made it official last quarter, nearly eliminating his position in his onetime favorite bank, Wells Fargo (NYSE:WFC). Berkshire Hathaway sold 51.7 million shares, dropping its stake to a mere 675,000 shares valued at $26.3 million.
\n
This essentially ends what was an epic run for the Oracle of Omaha and Wells Fargo. Buffett first purchased shares in the large U.S. bank in 1989, and by 1994, he had acquired more than 13% of its outstanding shares. At the end of the third quarter of 2019, before the pandemic, Buffett's stake, which had a rough original cost basis of just below $9 billion, was worth close to $20 billion. And at one point back in 2017, it was reportedly worth as much as $29 billion.
\n
But as the fallout of Wells Fargo's phony accounts scandal and other revelations about its consumer abuses continued to play out, Buffett began to lose faith in the institution and started trimming his position. It looks like Buffett ultimately ended up making much less on his Wells Fargo investment than he could have, considering he sold more than 323 million shares between the end of Q1 2020 and the end of Q1 2021. During that 12-month period, the bank's shares traded from a low of $21.45 to a high of $39.07. At the end of 2019, they traded north of $53.
\n
The stock closed at $45.73 on Thursday, and many investors still believe Wells Fargo is undervalued these days, trading at 135% tangible book value (equity minus intangible assets and goodwill). Bank valuations have shot up in recent months, and Wells Fargo in particular could see more tailwinds when the Federal Reserve lifts the $1.95 trillion asset cap that the bank has been operating under since 2018.
\n
2. Dumping Synchrony Financial
\n
Last quarter, Berkshire Hathaway also eliminated its entire stake in the consumer finance credit card company Synchrony Financial (NYSE:SYF), selling its 21.1 million shares. Synchrony uses what it calls a \"partner-centric\" business model under which it teams up with leading retailers and digital brands that promote Synchrony's credit cards. Consumers can get deals on specific purchases by opening Synchrony credit cards, which are often branded under a retailer's name.
\n
While I wouldn't say I saw this move coming, it doesn't entirely surprise me. Over the last year, Buffett has become even more selective about which banks he wants to own. He seems to be picking a winner or two in each banking industry subcategory -- for instance, he sold his stake in America's largest bank, JPMorgan Chase, and loaded up on America's second-largest bank, Bank of America.
\n
Considering that Buffett already has a huge position in American Express, and loves the brand, that is likely going to be his pick for a credit-card-focused holding. Berkshire Hathaway likely made a good profit on that Synchrony investment, though, considering that the stock hit its highest level ever during Q1.
\n
3. Trimming U.S. Bancorp again
\n
Berkshire Hathaway also sold about 1.45 million shares of U.S. Bancorp (NYSE:USB) in the first quarter -- but it still owns nearly 129.7 million shares. The Oracle of Omaha has sold small quantities of shares of the Minnesota-based regional bank a few times over the last year, and it's a bit unclear why. It does appear that he has made U.S. Bancorp his regional bank pick, though. He sold off his other regional bank holdings, including his stakes in PNC Financial Services Group and M&T Bank, in the fourth quarter of 2020.
\n
One possible explanation relates to Buffett's well-known desire to keep his stakes in those banks below 10%, so he can avoid the additional reporting requirements that a higher ownership level would trigger. At the end of the first quarter, Buffett owned about 8.7% of U.S. Bancorp's outstanding shares. So his stock sale may have simply been a move to prepare for the bank's planned share repurchases, which should accelerate later this year. Last quarter's adjustment should maintain Berkshire Hathaway's stake at a level comfortably under the 10% threshold, even after U.S. Bancorp's total share count is reduced.
\n
Overall, I still feel confident that Buffett plans to stick with U.S. Bancorp, although I will continue to watch his moves in upcoming quarters to see if he further reduces his stake in it.
","source":"fool_stock","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
Here Are the 3 Bank Moves Warren Buffett Has Made So Far in 2021
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n
\nHere Are the 3 Bank Moves Warren Buffett Has Made So Far in 2021\n
\n\n
\n\n\n2021-05-21 23:36 GMT+8 Motley Fool\n\n\n
\n\n
\n
\n
\n
Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE:BRK.A) (NYSE:BRK.B) recently filed its 13F form for the first quarter of 2021, detailing what stock sales and purchases the conglomerate and the legendary investor in charge, ...
\n\nWeb Link\n\n
\n\n\n
\n
\n
\n
\n","type":0,"thumbnail":"","relate_stocks":{"SYF":"Synchrony Financial","BRK.B":"伯克希尔B","BRK.A":"伯克希尔","USB":"美国合众银行","WFC":"富国银行"},"source_url":"https://www.fool.com/investing/2021/05/21/here-are-the-3-bank-moves-warren-buffett-has-made/","is_english":true,"share_image_url":"https://static.laohu8.com/e9f99090a1c2ed51c021029395664489","article_id":"2137906121","content_text":"Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE:BRK.A) (NYSE:BRK.B) recently filed its 13F form for the first quarter of 2021, detailing what stock sales and purchases the conglomerate and the legendary investor in charge, Warren Buffett, made during the period. The memo formally establishes the fight against corruption as a core national security interest.\nThe memo is important because it publicly notifies federal agencies that they need to \"up their anti-corruption game,\" said an administration official, speaking to reporters on background about the directive.\nThe memo directs a 200-day interagency review of how to improve anti-corruption measures, culminating in a report and recommendations to the president.\nThe official said major parts of the directive will be focused on financial crimes, including steps to modernize existing anti-corruption laws to confront cryptocurrencies and cybercrime.\n\"We are looking at crypto as a means of illicit finance,\" the official said, \"but by no means are these new steps limited to new technologies like crypto.\"\nThe official also said the effort would likely involve updates to the Bank Secrecy Act, the primary means by which law enforcement can track how money moves through financial institutions.\n\"We'll be looking for ideas of how to modernize these systems to respond to new technologies,\" the official said. The memo does not name individual countries, specific currencies or particular kinds of assets.\nAccording to the memo, the federal government will also \"robustly\" implement new rules established in January that require American companies to report their beneficial owner or owners to the Treasury Department. This is part of an effort aimed at \"reducing offshore financial secrecy; improving information sharing; and, as necessary, identifying the need for new reforms.\"\nThe memo also identifies the need to address strategic corruption by foreign entities and governments \"and their domestic collaborators\" in part by \"closing loopholes exploited by these actors to interfere in democratic processes in the United States and abroad.\"\nThis is a thinly veiled reference to efforts by Russia, Iran and other adversaries in recent years toexploit loopholes in the laws that govern foreign lobbying and political activitiesin order to fund disinformation campaigns and influence U.S. elections.\nThe anti-corruption fight is part of a broader shift underway toward a new \"foreign policy for the middle class.\" The strategy, devised in part by Biden's national security adviser Jake Sullivan, emphasizes how foreign policy and domestic policy can be integrated into a new middle ground between the traditional conservative and liberal approaches to global affairs.\nForeign policy for the middle class aims to ensure that globalization, trade, human rights and military might are all harnessed for the benefit of working Americans, not solely for billionaires and multinational corporations, but not for abstract ideological reasons either.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":189,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":190725533,"gmtCreate":1620654232022,"gmtModify":1704346180025,"author":{"id":"3560390927109287","authorId":"3560390927109287","name":"GraceSaw","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":4,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3560390927109287","authorIdStr":"3560390927109287"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"[Strong] asking f","content":"
TikTok is selling its most valuable real estate for $2 million.
\n
The short-form video app is asking for more than $1.4 million for a takeover of its home page in the U.S. during the third quarter, according to a document obtained by Bloomberg News. That figure will jump to more than $1.8 million in the fourth quarter — and more than $2 million on a holiday.
\n
These prices are a significant increase over what TikTok was charging just a year ago, according to people familiar with the terms, who declined to be identified because the document isn’t public. The total price has gone up in large part because of the app’s growing customer base. The app had more than 100 million monthly active users in the U.S. as of last August, up from 11 million early in 2018. TikTok estimated that anyone who purchased this advertising unit could generate 109 million impressions.
\n
TikTok isn’t yet making a lot of money from that user base, and is still building its advertising team. Advertisers haven’t dedicated large chunks of their video budgets to TikTok in the way they do for YouTube. But it’s only a matter of time, said Brian Wieser, global president of business intelligence at the advertising giant GroupM. Facebook, Instagram, Snap, Pinterest and YouTube have all gone through the same cycle of user growth followed by advertising sales.
\n
While TikTok’s ad business remains less mature than those of larger rivals, the app’s owner, ByteDance, is already one of the world’s largest advertisers. That figure will jump to more than $1.8 million in the fourth quarter — and more than $2 million on a holiday.\nThese prices are a significant increase over what TikTok was charging just a year ago, according to people familiar with the terms, who declined to be identified because the document isn’t public. The total price has gone up in large part because of the app’s growing customer base. The app had more than 100 million monthly active users in the U.S. as of last August, up from 11 million early in 2018. TikTok estimated that anyone who purchased this advertising unit could generate 109 million impressions.\nTikTok isn’t yet making a lot of money from that user base, and is still building its advertising team. Advertisers haven’t dedicated large chunks of their video budgets to TikTok in the way they do for YouTube. But it’s only a matter of time, said Brian Wieser, global president of business intelligence at the advertising giant GroupM. Facebook, Instagram, Snap, Pinterest and YouTube have all gone through the same cycle of user growth followed by advertising sales.\nWhile TikTok’s ad business remains less mature than those of larger rivals, the app’s owner, ByteDance, is already one of the world’s largest advertisers. It booked more than $20 billion sales from China alone last year and has forecast its global ad sales will reachnearly $40 billion this year.\nThe U.S. advertising market is expected to growmore than 15%this year, according to GroupM, buoyed by the reopening of businesses.
