Earnings season kicks off later this month, and <a href=\"https://laohu8.com/S/AONE.U\">one</a> company to watch will be Delta. The legacy air carrier reports quarterly results on Thursday morning.</p><p>The year-over-year comparisons will impress. Wall Street pros see Delta squeezing out a small profit, with revenue more than doubling against depressed results a year earlier. The problem is that the recent surge in COVID-19 cases has to be weighing on future bookings. We&#39;ve already seen the industry cancel flights just because the airlines can&#39;t round up enough healthy hires to keep their scheduled routes running.</p><p>Throw in tenuous passengers -- and the potential for vaccination requirements if case counts continue to shatter previous records -- and the near-term outlook is bumpy enough to probably want to have you returning to your seat to buckle up. The numbers for the quarter itself may be fine on Thursday, but the outlook could be problematic.</p><h2>Lucid Motors</h2><p>One of last week&#39;s biggest gainers was Lucid Motors, moving 10% higher as the general market headed lower. There&#39;s plenty of buzz for Lucid&#39;s luxury electric vehicles. Its flagship Lucid Air was tapped as <i>MotorTrend</i>&#39;s Car of the Year two months ago, a big honor for a car that just hit the market.</p><p>Lucid is exciting, and it&#39;s making a global push to grow quickly. The knock on Lucid is that it now commands a market cap of $69 billion. Lucid Air is a great-looking car with rave initial reviews, but it&#39;s a niche product with a starting price of $77,400. Analysts don&#39;t see profitability for at least another three years, and other companies with far more experience in making and selling automobiles are diving into the market for electric cars.</p><h2>SeaWorld Entertainment</h2><p>This theme-park operator cut my winning streak short after 11 weeks. Over the past seven weeks, it&#39;s also the lone stock among the 21 selections that moved higher for the week. So it would only make sense for SeaWorld Entertainment to return to this list again. The stock more than doubled last year, and it was one of the rare consumer-facing stocks to kick off 2022 on a positive note.</p><p>As I mentioned last time, I think SeaWorld will have a strong quarter to report when it steps up with its next financial update in a few weeks. Right now, the bigger concern is that COVID-19 cases will thin out crowds at theme parks. Unlike regional operators that are largely closed this time of year, most of SeaWorld&#39;s parks are year-round operations in Florida, California, and Texas. All three of those states are seeing a significant surge in case counts and hospitalizations. Here&#39;s why.</p><h2>Being selective is key for Offerpad</h2><p>Since 2019, Zillow has been on a home-buying binge, purchasing 26,014 houses -- in some cases, multiple-home estates -- with the intention of reselling them quickly for a profit. This strategy is great when real estate prices are rising across the board, but when pockets of the market go soft, it can result in significant losses.</p><p>Zillow recently listed up to 1,000 of its homes for sale in its five largest markets, 64% of which were reportedly priced below what it paid for them. And in Phoenix, Arizona, up to 93% of its properties are slated to be sold at a loss. In the recent third quarter, Zillow&#39;s iBuying segment lost $244 million and erased all of the gross profit the segment had made for the entire year.</p><p>Part of the issue is Zillow&#39;s broad geographical footprint. It operates in, and therefore had to carefully track, up to 35 markets across the U.S. Offerpad, on the other hand, operates in 17 markets. Where Zillow&#39;s iBuying average gross profit per home peaked at $18,665, Offerpad&#39;s average peak (so far) is $31,500 per home in the second quarter of 2021.</p><p>It highlights the importance of being selective, because like any asset class, home prices constantly fluctuate, and being on the wrong side can be catastrophic. For Offerpad, now that its largest competitor has moved out of the way, it has an opportunity to grow its market share in the higher-quality markets Zillow has left behind.</p><h2>A surge in revenue</h2><p>By the close of 2021, Offerpad expects it will have sold up to 6,000 homes for the year, driving a record revenue result. In the recent third quarter, it actually increased its 2021 revenue guidance by $100 million. By comparison, and despite all of its issues, Zillow&#39;s stock trades at a multiple of 2.1 based on estimated 2021 revenue. That means Offerpad&#39;s stock would need to double from here just to trade in line with its tech-real estate peer.</p><p>If Offerpad meets analysts&#39; expectations and generates $3.53 billion in revenue next year, its multiple will shrink further to just 0.4 (assuming its stock price remains the same). That makes its recent 68% decline in share price look like an attractive opportunity going into 2022.</p><p>Offerpad is expected to post a loss overall for 2021, but JMP Securities expects it will close out 2021 with a fourth-quarter profit of $0.35 per share.
