The S&P 500 is closing out the first half of the year with a 14% gain.\nHowever, based on historical data from CFRA, the current market backdrop appears ripe for a pullback.\n“History says, but does not guarantee, that even though CFRA projects the S&P 500 to climb toward 4,444 by year-end, the S&P 500 is overdue for a decline in excess of 5%,” Sam Stovall, chief investment strategist at CFRA.\n\nAs of June 25, the S&P 500 has gone 275 calendar days since its last decline of 5% or more, which took place before the election in September when the 500-stock index lost nearly 10%.\nCFRA notes that since 1945, there have been 60 pullbacks (decline of 5%-9.9%), 23 corrections (declines of 10%-19.9%) and 13 bear markets (declines of 20% or more). But given how the variant, first identified in India, has marched across some countries, a speed bump or two for the reopening trade over the next few months can't be ruled out, especially if those cases start to take hold in the U.S.
\n
Onto our call of the day provided by Liz Young, head of investment strategy at SoFi , a mobile-first personal finance company. She says we are headed for a big market transition in the latter half of the year -- into calm waters and no big surprises.
\n
\"However, I think it's going to feel like we need to eke out a little bit of return and it might feel hard won,\" Young, former director of market strategy at BNY Mellon, told MarketWatch.
\n
Looking back to last year, she said investors got used to big double digit gains in parts of the market as it rebounded, and noted the S&P 500 has already hit more than 30 records this year.
\n
\"What I see happening in the second half of this year is that we have to start making this transition from the policy support -- which has really gotten us to this point -- back to the fundamental and durable strength in the market, in corporations, in the economy. So the data will start to matter,\" said Young.
\n
And the market is getting less and less impressed by super strong data, because that's what it has come to expect.
\n
As for where to invest, she advises thinking in terms of the year and the economic cycle.
\n
\"So I think for the rest of this year, we do see rates drift up, meaning the 10-year drifting upward, which should probably put some pressure on those high-growth stocks,\" Young said. She's not saying negative returns are coming, but said the move up in rates will revive the cyclical trade, benefitting value sectors. \"So that's where I would be looking.\"
\n
As for the cycle, tech is still important because that sector is a \"bet on American prosperity for the long term and it's not going anywhere,\" and something she wouldn't \"trade in and out of for the rest of 2021.\"
\n
She also sees continued improvement for small-cap stocks, given they were hardest hit in the pandemic and should keep bouncing back, with a healthy initial public offering market acting as a positive catalyst. European stocks, which are behind in that reopening trade, should also be a decent bet later in the year, notably as those indexes are rich in financials, which should benefit if global sovereign yields are headed higher.
\n
Some final advice from Young has to do with trendy investments that have cropped up in the past year or so, such as meme stocks, crypto assets, special-purpose acquisition companies (SPACs), etc.
\n
As she advised in a recent blog post , while it's OK to invest in trendy assets, they shouldn't \"overwhelm the foundation of a durable portfolio, or cause you to redefine your risk tolerance just to 'get in the game.' \"
","source":"lsy1603348471595","collect":0,"html":"\n
\n
\n\n\n\n
A big market transition is coming. European stocks, which are behind in that reopening trade, should also be a decent bet later in the year, notably as those indexes are rich in financials, which should benefit if global sovereign yields are headed higher.\nSome final advice from Young has to do with trendy investments that have cropped up in the past year or so, such as meme stocks, crypto assets, special-purpose acquisition companies (SPACs), etc.\nAs she advised in a recent blog post , while it's OK to invest in trendy assets, they shouldn't \"overwhelm the foundation of a durable portfolio, or cause you to redefine your risk tolerance just to 'get in the game.' \"","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":179,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":159483372,"gmtCreate":1624976913596,"gmtModify":1703849326745,"author":{"id":"3566376411838330","authorId":"3566376411838330","name":"Spurn","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3566376411838330","authorIdStr":"3566376411838330"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Awesome read","listText":"Awesome read","text":"Awesome read","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":0,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/159483372","repostId":"1142282242","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1142282242","pubTimestamp":1624971487,"share":"https://ttm.financial/m/news/1142282242?lang=&edition=fundamental","pubTime":"2021-06-29 20:58","market":"us","language":"en","title":"One record-breaking retail stock still looks like a winner to this investor","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1142282242","media":"CNBC","summary":"Big-box retailer Target just keeps hitting records.\nThe stock notched a new high on Monday for a fif","content":"
\n
Big-box retailer Target just keeps hitting records.\nThe stock notched a new high on Monday for a fifth session in a row. The shares have risen 37% in 2021, more than double the gains for the S&P 500. The company was also named by Cowen on Monday as one of the retail brands favored by Gen Z.\nNancy Tengler, chief investment officer at Laffer Tengler Investment, agreed that Target is one retailer likely to continue its rally.\n“This is a company that seems to be firing on all cylinders and recently expressed their confidence in future earnings growth by raising the dividend 32%. They had a standout quarter,” Tengler told CNBC’s “Trading Nation” on Monday.\nTarget reported a 23% increase in sales in its fisal first quarter. The company credited increasing vaccination rates and the reopening economy for higher in-store sales.\n“They are in a very strong position in terms of stores near population in the U.S. They’re at 94% of stores within 60 minutes of anyone in the United States. Amazon has spent billions of dollars over many years and they’re at 77%,” said Tengler.\n“The stock has done very well so you could be patient, but there’s a lot to like about this story,” she said.\nInspired by Cowen’s search for youth-driven stocks, Ari Wald, head of technical analysis at Oppenheimer, looked outside the retail space for his stock pick.\n“We like Activision Blizzard here. It’s best known for its Call of Duty franchise and the stock has been consolidating above its 200-day moving average since breaking through very important resistance in December,” Wald said during the same interview.\n\n“Our assumption is that as long as $90 support is intact, that year-to-date range is more likely to break higher to the upside,” Wald said.\nActivision closed Monday at $95.40 a share. I think that’s another indicator to watch here in terms of whether this bear phase is over or not.”\nWhile its price has stabilized in recent days, bitcoin has struggled in the two months since reaching its peak. In early April, bitcoin was still in the midst of its major ascent — ultimately reaching an all-time high of nearly $65,000 per token on April 14. It began the year around $29,000.\nThe cryptocurrency briefly stank below $29,000 exactly one week ago, briefly going negative for the year. Bitcoin ended slightly higher to around $32,500. As a percentage of the entire crypto market cap at the time, bitcoin had accounted for about the same dominance as it does Tuesday.\nOne factor cited as fuel for bitcoin’s massive rally late last year and into 2021 was that institutions were adding exposure to the digital asset, typically through CME bitcoin futures or the Grayscale Bitcoin Trust.\nPanigirtzoglou follows those institutional flows closely, and his research on the matter has become widely read across Wall Street. In May, he wrote in a note to clients that institutional investors were ditching bitcoin in favor of gold— a report that some traders think played at least some part in the cryptocurrency’s steep slidethat month.\nIn a note last week, Panigirtzoglou kept his bearish outlook on bitcoin, citing what he sees as little appetite among institutional investors to take advantage of the pullback.\n“At the moment, we are still stuck. We don’t see a lot of buy-the-dip flow like we’d seen previously in Q4 of last year or Q1 of this year,” Panigirtzoglou told CNBC Tuesday.\nThe analyst said he does expect there to be a price level where bitcoin again becomes attractive for large investors — although he didn’t say where that might be.\n“I think the lesson from the past couple of months is ... bitcoin is not price insensitive, and there is going to be a price where institutional interest will pick up, I think, with respect to volatility, so that’s more important,” he said.","news_type":1},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":175,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":159481460,"gmtCreate":1624976957550,"gmtModify":1703849328713,"author":{"id":"3566376411838330","authorId":"3566376411838330","name":"Spurn","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3566376411838330","authorIdStr":"3566376411838330"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Oh my","listText":"Oh my","text":"Oh my","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":1,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://ttm.financial/post/159481460","repostId":"1179070037","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":129,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":159753951,"gmtCreate":1624981453773,"gmtModify":1703849509175,"author":{"id":"3566376411838330","authorId":"3566376411838330","name":"Spurn","avatar":"https://static.laohu8.com/default-avatar.jpg","crmLevel":2,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"3566376411838330","authorIdStr":"3566376411838330"},"themes":[],"htmlText":"Wall street to the moon!
